Some time ago DoW posted three new BattleLore adventures:
- All Along the Watchtower
- Lone Outpost
- Attempted Breakthrough

I have not seen many battle reports entered for any of these adventures and I am just checking to see if anyone else has tried some of these out? They really do provide a good game, Or have these somehow become lost in the shuffle of looking for news of What's next.

Hello Richard.

The Creature Compendium came out online and unlike the rule book, allows up to 3 creatures to be purchased in any official Lore scenario (... where you have 3 or more lore levels) and to be deployed kind of like Call to Arms. Not sure why DoW has yet to make these hardcopy rules, for now they are virtual, but The Rules all the same. I still recall my surprise when I fist learned of this when my fellow gamer plopped down two Hill Giants, in their liars, right in the front line, I said I don't think you can do that, and was then introduced to the virtual rules, 'changing official scenario play forever'.

The three new scenarios, with their very forward and even behind enemy lines deployments, seem made for creative Hill Giant use. In "Along the Watchtower", as Standard, one of my four lore levels will go to a Hill Giant on his rock pile, on my Right, row 3, adjacent the bridge. Pennants may want a Hill Giant ( or two, or none) also, possibly starting adjacent to the bagpiper, safer maybe more to the Pennants right adjacent the hills and throw rocks at them, forcing them at some point to either to advance or die slowly in place.

"Lone Outpost"... I think the one lore level is best spent on Hill Giants.

Anyway, I miss the old way, where the only Creatures in a scenario are the ones specified by the scenario. Call To Arms has a 'mechanism' to allow the occasional game with up to 3 creatures per side to spice things up. The Official lore scenarios have no such 'mechanism', pretty much up to 3 creatures per side (or less to none, gamers choice) in most as most are 6 lore level games. In fact, the side that is prescribed a creature starting in the back row seems penalized a bit.

Well, we only play in Epic Mode.
There has been no such scenarios for a long time, so we hardly ever look in the files.

I don't see this rule anywhere, could you please post a link or make a copy paste?

These are at the top of my pile to play. The deployment and fluff are too cool. Believe it or not I'm still working through official scenarios from the base, 100 years, Gobbos, and CtA!

Dwarven Battalion pack is up next for me and then Scotts. Even through all of that I still have my eye on All Along the Watchtower. An all "humanoid" scenario is something I've been looking forward to since I first picked the game up.

The others can flame me but I just wanted to say thanks for all the great games, for me they are endless fun.

Richard,

Not all of us who play these scenarios submit battle reports so please do not for one minute think that your much appreciated efforts are not welcomed by us.

I have just finished painting my complete collection of all BattleLore models released to date and it was good to get my wee painted dwarfs into action against some painted goblins.

I even managed to get in a game of Battle Cry using the BattleLore Epic boards to re-create the second day at Gettysburg.

Once again, many thanks for the new scenarios.

With kindest regards,

Jim O'Neill

Thanks Richard for getting me into gear and shaming me into playing these.
We were going to play some C&C;A today and we switched to two-games of 'Watchtower and one of 'Breakthrough.
I was one of those who got BL so I could play C&C ala fantasy.
And complaining that the Goblin & Dwarf were just bit players, I Wanted Fantasy Armies-!!
Here you put out some adventures all Goblin & Dwarf and
I hadn't played them.
Glad I did !!
That 'All Along the Watchtower's my favorite 'adventure now.
It provided good lessons for using the Goblin army.
I could not believe the Gobbos won two times!
Battle reports have been filed so I won't drone on here with the
stories. Just say we had a lot of fun as the battle unfolded.
(Just can't get over Goblins kicking that much elite Dwarf unit butt)

Been playing mostly CtA, and very few of the official scenarios. Looking forward to doing so as soon as the opportunity arises though Smile
