Congratulations to the first Lieutenant Colonel Thu, 28 April 2011 00:01
As I just noticed, today Vercingetorix1302 had the great distinction to be the first player who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. As we all know, you have to win against other Majors in all theaters of operation, but what we still don't know is the required number of victories and/or Majors you have to win against. Perhaps someone with a lot of time can analyse Vercingetorix's War Diary? Smile

If I'm counting correctly, it looks like it was earned on his 12th victory against a Major in the Pacific Theater.

So my current theory is that you need 12 victories in each theater against Majors. I welcome other theories of course, this was just a quick idea...

So I need two more Pacific victories -- any volunteers? Very Happy

I'll play you Geoff.

I need victories too - though the way my dice are rolling the victories may well be yours.

Hi Phread,

I looked for you, but you were playing other opponents.

I got my two wins though... my theory is wrong. Other suggestions welcome...

Done!!!

You can study mine and VERCINGETORIX1302 profile under Lt.Col

Just click on Lt.Col and click on us and look at our record.

I think it was AIwan's theory that I put to the test.

He was right.

It seems the best guess is 12x victories against Major's in each of the 4 theaters ? Would that be 12 different individuals ? In other words, would beating Major so and so twice count as 1 or 2 victories for promotion to LT COL ?

Re:Congratulations to the first Lieutenant Colonel Sat, 30 April 2011 04:07
Working theory is it hasn't to do with # of Majors, just battles won in the given theaters,

Original

Desert

Eastern Front

Now - Pacific

Old timers should have enough under their belt in all theaters except Pacific - which has the added advantage of the Japs rolling 4 dice a lot for a slightly better chance of those elusive Pineapple, Flags and Star Wars awards (which I don't have)

But it could be Majors as well, not entirely sure.

I made it!

There are now four Lt. Colonels.

Have fun chasing this one!

There is no way to post spoilers, so I guess I can't put the requirements here... you'll have to catch me in a game and ask me. Cool

Despite what I wrote in the midst of a very bad run of luck I won Guam Landings as Axis (underdog - unfavoured) against another Major and got promoted (5th Lt Col) and I didn't even notice LOL.

Strangely my achievement bar below doesn't show my new rank!

It must be something to do with caching - you are still show as Major on my machine. (Restarting windows explorer solved the problem.)

BTW Congrats to you too - beat me to the promotion. It is nice to be in the early adopters.

DoW's hint is
"The promotion from Major to Lieutenant-Colonel is one long slog. Those that make it have proven they can best their peers, regardless of the Theater of Operations in which they were posted!"

The comment about beating your peers would suggest that to be promoted a Major needs to have victories against other Majors in all theatres.

Playing and winning the unfavoured side probably helps more than winning from the "easier" side.

But what would I know. I've played all scenarios, winning and losing every one against all ranks Major and below. I have yet to play a Lt Colonel (or above). I think I have won more games than I have lost as both Axis and Allies.

Simply play enough games in all theatres, win against Majors and when you least expect it you might be promoted.

Ha! I just got promoted (the 6th Lt. Col.) and the key to success is as follows :
tested on all already promoted Lt.Colonels and beyond any shadow of doubt:

you need 10 VICTORIES AS EACH SIDE IN EACH THEATRE! regardless of whether your opponents are majors or not.

The 20 victories in each theatre was false, as I had 24 in the Pacific, but only 9 as Axis. With my 10th victory as Axis I got promoted. And it was against an Oberleutnant Smile

I just got promoted and think that Morgillath's Theory may be the real one. I spent my time fighting against majors but after promotion I checked victories on the pacific front.

So, Stevie02, if you will be reading this mine, keep on fighting
for the Emperor of the rising sun.

I think this solution is a good one, otherwise we all end to fight only against our peers.

Wonder what will the next step !

going to have the warrior's rest now

Yep, thanks vekkiller, just got my arithmetic wrong (counted a victory against Johnny Embarassed) . Morgiliath you are a genius! DOW owe you a beer, I just spent 2 weeks worth of ingots in 2 nights chasing promotion. Feel like mutley in ''Stop the pidgeon'' ( you youngsters wont know what I mean by that )

I'm a little sad that the secret is out.

There are some pacific scenarios where it is very easy to get the victory as Allies, and some as Axis.

I would be disappointed if officers concentrated on easy victories rather than winning every scenario from both sides. That's my focus, especially whe new scenarios are released. Promotion is a nice extra.

Do Toulon, Montélimar, Gallabat & Metemma and Tunisia count as Mediterranean maps? If so, anyone who has won every map as both players would have automatically all required victories on both the Western and Mediterranean front, while he would still be lacking eight (2x4) victories on the Eastern front and twelve (2x6) in the Pacific.

I would think that those scenarios count as mediterranean -- that's what the are considered in the Scenarios from the Front.

Read the Promotion Requirements Thread:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?th=22064&start=0

Up to now, I would say the minimum is 10 wins each side/Theater and something else.

Re:Congratulations to the first Lieutenant Colonel Fri, 10 June 2011 12:00
so could someone just confirm ...

1) Do i need to win 10 battles per theatre, or 10 battles for each side per theatre (ie 20 games min per theatre).

2) If the latter, do these 10 battles have to be the same for each side, or can they be 10 different battles.

3) Do they all need to be fought against other Majors, or can they be against anyone?

4) Are these (potentially 80 wins) taken from the first day of registering as a cadet, or are they additionally required since promotion to Major?

Smile

Cheers

Jim

Re:Congratulations to the first Lieutenant Colonel Fri, 10 June 2011 12:14
I have seen it suggested somewhere that the 80 wins were after promotion to Major.

I could not say for sure as I was one of the early Majors and won many battles afterwards.

To get to Lt Col I had to win 10 on each side in the Pacific after it was made afterwards.

The hint is "The promotion from Major to Lieutenant-Colonel is one long slog. Those that make it have proven they can best their peers, regardless of the Theater of Operations in which they were posted!"

I can give you these hints.

For me, I had 11 or more victories in all theatres, both sides (after becoming a Major) before getting promoted.

However, I'm not sure the win requirement is (after becoming major) or just cumulative. What I do know is you probably need:

somewhere around 10-20 wins against other Majors and at least 1 win against a Lt Colonel is each of the 4 theatres. I think that's the ticket.

I hope this helps you.

It's impossible that you have to win against a LT-CL to promote.
Nobody could be the first one then since there wouldn't be a suitable opponent. Winning against Majors isn't the key either it seems from what I read here on the forum. Razz

I have played every scenario on both sides but not won every scenario on both sides yet. Could this be a factor to include?

Moomer, you just need to win some more games in the Eastern Theater. Because Rzhev and Warsaw were added late to that theater, the wins there do not count toward the ten you need to win from each side in each theater.

Try 2 more wins as the Allies and 2 for the Axis, but stay out of Poland.

Good luck

Yes, that is probably it. The new scenarioes don't count for this promotion.

Thank you toddcalu.
