I hate to rain on this parade - but one should look at the opponents and battles fought before praising another's points total.

Playing mainly the favoured side of mainly only one battle is a relatively easy way to gain points.

A player who plays both sides of a variety of scenarios is more worthy of praise in my humble opinion.

We already have "pool-sharks" here in the Mem44Online community, is what you are saying? Smile

Presently the best player out there is Clorofila, if anybody want to know - he beat me twice on Operation Cobra, fair and square - that counts high on my list Wink

Unfortunately it does seem that there are (at least two) players who have a high points ranking gained by playing a very limited number of scenarios mostly from one side.

If that "floats their boat" then they are welcome to it.

That style of play does disappoint me as it devalues the ranking of players who play a wider range of scenarios from both sides. The players who take on all comers playing both sides in a scenario, in my humble opinion, are the "real" players who deserve our admiration.

Pool-sharks, point-whores, call them what you like - players who play only to maximise their points do everyone else a disservice by distorting the ranking system.

Beat me up if you like for saying so, but I am simply being honest.

Perhaps one of the players I refer to would like to explain his/herself so I might (better) understand their motivation.

I have to say that I'd noticed a couple of players that prefer playing only a couple of scenarios on one side only.

Like Phread, I fail to understand the motivation. There's a similar clique in TTR - only wanting to play players rated 1600 or above for fear of loosing your ranking - I had hoped that it wouldn't happen here.

I enjoy playing for the fun of it, but different competitive elements can bring a greater sense of achievement - gaining rank, league play. Ranking suddenly seems less important.

I also have to take issue with Nygaard - Clorofila isn't the best player out there at the moment - we drew our match 1-1!

Lambolt, however did beat me 2-0!

Hi guys!

That was a very unexpected and rather exaggerated comment of yours, Nygaard Smile
Still, I do thank you the honor of receiving such compliment!

Truth is that I'm an absolutely average Memoir '44 player, who got lucky against one of the best players, at a particular scenario, Operation Cobra. My records show it: average win rate, average achievements count and average ranking Razz

Like Phread once wrote in some other thread, true great players are experienced ones, who fought over a variety of scenarios, playing both sides most of times (or even the underdog alone) and still manage to get a very reasonable win rate (around 2/3).
You can also detect a good player in the small details of positioning and preparing for the next 2 or 3 cards or when stalling to get better or more suitable cards.
I don't see myself in any of those groups, yet.

Thanks for calling my attention to this thread, Mike, and thank you for the compliment too. I most appreciate getting to know opponents who are nice and have a good spirit like yourself.

Finally, the players who play the system, yeah... hurrah to them
Razz
I don't think that any of them will ever satisfy Phread's wish and show up for a chitchat.
Wilhelm of Normandy, prove me wrong! Very Happy
