Memoir 44 Tournament Season 2 Tue, 27 September 2011 23:56
Hi everybody,

We're getting ready to start season 2 of a little Memoir 44 Online tournament.

This season it will be group play in divisions of 6 people each - divided into US and Europe/Asia with play-offs.

Last season we played the same scenario for all 5 group games + finals - but this time we are going mix it up with a variaty of maps:

Sword Beach
Twin Villages
Dug in at Sidi Omar
Montelimar
Lisyanka
Gates of Moscow (Semi finals)
Meat Grinder (Final)

Depending on feedback it's possible that there'll be more than one round of play-offs.

We are using Board Game Geek as our HQ, check out Memoir44League on board game geek.

If you are interested then sound off (preferably on BBG - but if you don't have an account there, here will do)

Let us know if you have any questions.

On behalf of the Memoir44 Troika,
Magnus Nygaard.

MegaHumBull, I've added you to the list, too, but please let me know if you have a BGG name, because I don't have that.

We now have 23 players signed up: 12 in Europe, 10 in the USA, and Phread in New Zealand. (Phread, it looks like you'll be playing against the Americans this season.)

It would be perfect if the next signup could be from the Western hemisphere, to make it 12 and (11+1).

If you are still interested and haven't yet put your name down you still have a chance. We can have more than 4 pools of 6 if we get the numbers.

As of this moment, we have 28 players.

If we get 2 more players by the end of Friday, we will have 5 complete 6-player divisions.

That gives us 14 North American, 14 European, 2 Antipodean.

The New Zealanders - now they are on daylight saving time - may find it easier to play in the North American groups.

Are there two volunteers from Europe who can/will play in an North American group (timezone) ?

PM me or post here.

Re:Memoir 44 Tournament Season 2 Sat, 08 October 2011 10:26
For me that would depend on the playing habits of the north Americans.

I usually don't stay up very late (say 01:00h would be the max, the match would have to be finished by about 19:00h ET) so that's not helpful.

On the other hand, getting up early is no problem: 06:00h to 07:30h would be a good window for me. That would mean 00:00 to 01:30h ET. So if those guys don't mind staying up late it could work. (And they have the benefit of playing a very fresh player. I promise to shower beforehand. Very Happy )

In the weekends there would be more room for "strange" appointments.

(Just so you know: one weekend in october (21 22 23 oct) I will be visiting England and will have no access to a computer. To compensate for that I have taken 17 18 and 19 oct. of from work so I can accommodate strange battling hours if the need arises. )

All that being said, since it will be one match a week, some kind of scheduling should always be possible. But if there are Europeans who do stay up later than me, into the wee hours of the night, that might be more convenient.

Are there two volunteers from Europe who can/will play in an North American group (timezone) ?

I think easiest will be: Add the 2 NZ players to a group of West-Coasters.
Find 4 East-Coasters who play during the day to play against Europeans who play during the evenings.

I (almost) always play during the evenings, and have played against quite some Americans, when they play during the day. (some people get to play at work !!! Shocked
When you want Europeans to play against Americans playing in the evening, they'd have to play in the middle of the night. Shocked

Anyway, my playing times are from 7 PM to 11:30 PM Paris "server time".

Shocked !!
That just shows you shouldn't learn geography from board games!

The term "Nordic" is mostly culturally determined.
The Nordic countries are: Denmark (including the Faroe Islands and sometimes Greenland), Norway, Sweden, Finland (including Åland), and Iceland.

Scandinavia - mostly as a geographical term, is only Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

Denmark did manage to unite the Nordic Countries in the Kalmar Union, but the Swedes got a little upset when we tried to kill off all their nobility (they are touchy like that).

Here ends today's lesson of geography... Razz

I'm posting messages here, at BGG, and thru private DOW comms - looking for my first round opponent of Mikeguth. I've seen him playing M44 lately, but always in battle, never out of it.

If any of you play him or see him in the lobby, please let him know I'm looking for him and a good time he'd be available to storm Sword Beach.

We need a replacement player in one of our Western Hemisphere divisions.

Check out the League information at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/1124

To enlist, go to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/704495/league-season-2-i nfo-and-sign-ups/page/3

It's a 5-week season, one match per week. (You'll need to play one catch-up match.)
