Will Smallworld be playable Online?

Will we be able to play this game online? It looks like a really fun game but not the type my RL friends are into. I'd love to play it online though. Will it be available?

We haven't made any plans at this stage. Part of the decision will obviously hinge on how successful the board game is.

Would DoW allow a VASSAL module or not?
M44 exists as a VASSAL module.

I would love to see this on XBox Live. It could even support multiple players on a single machine since everything minus the VP is open knowledge.

This site has gaming groups in your area: http://www.socalgamers.info/
I'm north of you in OC, but if you want to come up, Small World is getting a lot of play! My group is at the end of the OC list.

to make a game like this computer bridged, is a marvelous idea.
Great work there.
but what idiot in marketing got the idea to do it for ipad only?
isnt the whole point of bridging a boardgame to computers to give the customers an extra service? so they become repeat customers to your other games?
so then the question is, why put down that much effort into a program that hardly 1% of the customers will ever possibly be able to use? cant be that much work to bridge it to windows and let 99% of the customers take part of this aspect of the game too.
just a general question to another boardgame happy customer who got disapointed over this. (i honestly think ur recieving backwards credits for the whole project due to ipad only)

Given the way you state your question, I must be the idiot in marketing responsible for this decision.
Unfortunately, your assumptions are wrong: Coding for a PC and for the iPad are two totally different things, the user experience we created in the iPad version would make no sense on a PC, etc...
This does not mean that there won't be a way to play on a computer one day, though, just that if we do, it will be a different user experience.

Um, yea guys, I think it is pretty safe to say that this is a great online game and honestly I don't see how it would be too hard to make, it is a fairly simple game. Not to mention that when I signed up here with my Smallworld code, I was pretty disappointed to see that it wasn't available online yet.

YOU CAN BUT SMALL WORLD FOR THE iPAD. Having never played the game i thought losing a few times to a bot would teach me the rules before i introduce it to my friends. Took me 8 games before I won one. Now I have won games 9 & 10. things are looking up. Still trying to figure few things out. like how do i know skeletons can just pop up anywhere on the board they want? And how many ghould per turn regen while they are in decline. And the rules said I could come here and find other peoples ideas for adjectives (modifiers) but I cant find them.
My add on is called "Pirates are better than Ninjas"
Pirates (5) Water and adjacent Shore tiles take one less to conquer.
Ninjas (1) ignore terrain and just count opponents for combat.
1 - Regenative (don't lose a chit when you lose combat i.e. elves
2 - Breeding (2 extra chits each turn to a max of 20)
3 - Ghoulish (Allows any race to act as ghouls in decline/ Ghoulish Ghouls don't lose a chit when they lose a combat until all terrtories are gone and then they are removed.)
4 - Sneaky (Can make first attack anywhere on the board
5 - Drunken (can reroll a dice when atacking)
6 - Aquatic (+1 Vic token for water tiles owned at end of each turn / allows water passage)
7 - Masterful (Adds +1 to all combat die rolls)
8 - Tactical (Return 1 die of chits to respective owners from board at beginning of round)
9 - Covert (Spend 3 gold to remove all opponents from a tile.)
etc etc etc - Dano

An online version of this game would be an excellent idea
Might i add though, that i think a lot of people assume that creating an on line version is a quick and simple job.
For a company to invest the time manpower and other resourses to this type of project they have to first ensure that the project would be financially viable. After all, all companies have to make money otherwise they would not be around for very long.
Days of wonder have an excellent online section and at present most of the design DOW staff are involved in the new online version of memoir 44 (I am lucky enought to be able to enjoy trying out the Beta testing version as well)
This is a big project that has been under play testing conditions for a long time and an excellent product it is.
(The final retail version when released should be awsome)
I can only assume that once this is more fully developed then the DOW crew will be able to move onto other projects (Like perhaps an online version of small world.)
I can understand the frustration of some who obviously enjoy the small world game and would like to see an online version.
I'm sure that in due course it will arrive!! We simple have to have a bit of patience
My thanks to all the staff At DOW for producing all of your excellent games. (looking foreward to the release of Cargo Noir)

Yeah, I would love to play it online, too.
Whose idea was it, to provide it for i-pad?
You could sell a PC version much more!

Have you seen how popular the iPad is? And now with the release of the iPad 2...this is a huge market that is only going to get bigger! Plus Small World is a perfect fit for the 'touch' interface.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a computer version as well but I don't think it was a mistake to release this game for the iPad.

Ok….you are right…it is a perfect fit for the 'touch' interface.
…and I confess:
I looked for an i-pad some weeks ago. But the i-pad has no usb and you have to convert movies to an apple format…that isn’t useful for me.

No worries. I could still understand your message. Sometimes the forum does that for me if I cut and paste my text from another program like Word...
Understandable...the iPad isn't for everyone!

Hi,
I play Ticket to Ride regularly online, but never played Small World until this weekend when I visited with someone who has it on their iPad.
Was quite sad to see that it's not available online.
I like the game but not enough to buy an iPad.
And my fellow board game players aren't very active nowadays.

Days of Wonder REALLY should make Smallworld for PC with online version (as ticket to ride).. many people play Smallworld at forums and thats just depressing as 1 game takes weeks to be played..
I tried VASSAL but there are never players online in the room.. I really wish there was a version for Brettspielwelt..

No word, but that doesn't mean it isn't in development. DoW plays things pretty close to their chest, which means that a computer version of the game could be in the works and we wouldn't know about it until it's ready to start playing...
So we can just hope and keep telling our friends about the iPad version (to increase sale, and therefore demand for other versions).

Just saw the board game being played on that Will Wheaton "Table Top" show that he's been doing so went looking to see if there is a electronic version since I have no friends that are interested in playing board games anymore, actually haven't seen any friends interested in board games in maybe 20 years or more.
Anyway, it would be really grand if you folks at DoW would put out a PC version of smallworld.
We don't have an ipad and don't really have any plans on getting one since we primarily use desktops and laptops for all of our computing needs.
Please consider putting this game out for the PC.
