Sounds like fun.
If I might make a suggestion, perhaps I should choose the scenario forthe round where Helcat does the pairing, and he should choose the one for the round where I do the pairings. Otherwise, if there's a slanted scenario, there could be a massacre.

Greetings Commanders,
The war continues into 1943. Listed on the SFTF page are 10 scenarios to consider. They are in final form and no changes will be made. They are also in chronological order, and will be played that way. Sam and Erik will select which 2 or 3 scenarios we will play. They can consult their fellow commanders in making their decisions AND each other. Let's pick the ones everyone will enjoy.
The following is my synopsis of each scneario:
1. Breakout at Velikiye Luki, fairly even battle. Russians must get flank units involved early.
2. Landing at Malaya Zemlya, even but edge to Axis. If Allies get the cards they can win decisively.
3. Third Batle of Kharkov, distinct edge to Allies. very tough for Axis.
4.Ponyri, 'Little Stalingrad', distinct edge to Allies. Germans have to decide whether to smash through mines or pick away.
5. Battle of Kursk,Southern Front, very slight edge Germans, huge tank battle with quality(Axis) vs. quantity(Allies).
6.Belgorod Offensive, edge Axis, Russians must smash through somewhere to win.
7.Paradrop at Kanev, not sure about this one, all depends on where the paratroopers land and how they are used. U.S. paratroopers make a showing(only in the online version).
8.Battle of Kiev, edge Germans but Allies can win if they use a certain strategy(not telling).
9.The Lenino Offensive, slight edge Axis, but if they lose forward arty early all bets are off.
10. Zhitomir, Final Attempt, very slight edge Axis. Zhitomir and pesky ski troops are key.
If you would like to playtest any of these scenarios before selecting, let me know. Some of you have already done so. I want everyone to be enthusiastic for the ones we decide to play.
Let's have fun!
Eric

SAC Helcat,
Lots to review, how would you like our input, here in the forum so the enemy knows exactly what they are in for or by PM? Either way I suppose they will get their just desserts! Sure they would prefer German chocolate cake or maybe we could make it a RED velvet cake!

Just another thought or two...
Ponyri and Third Battle of Kharkov were slightly changed to give the Axis a little better chance. They were not retested after this change. I still think they are at a moderate disadvantage as compared to the other scenarios. I left them in because I like the way they play out.
Also, I would like everyone to recommend to their commanders the scenarios that they think are most interesting and really want to try. Don't just pick them because you may think you will get an advantage. To me, enjoying a challenging scenario is a lot more fun than just winning.
I'm going to try to be on as much as possible this week and weekend for those of you who would like to try one before deciding.

Eric,
I agree, I myself just enjoy a good fight, win, lose or draw, for the chess aficionados out there!
In keeping with my theme of a previous reply, much prefer a good fight as opposed to a cakewalk. We have all experienced it at one point or another, due to dice, cards or opponents skill or all 3 combined, it happens.
Might save my 2 cents or maybe a penny for a thought for some other time and trust in our SAC's, which I do, wholeheartedly, I might add, to make the best choices possible!
Choices made, pairings made, whatever they may be, will just have to be content to kick some AXIS AXIS!! (Sub 3 other letters on the other AXIS!)

I agree with Van Voort.
Our SAC's can decide. Just like real life battle : the directives come from high up and the grunts just have to deal with it.
Like Eric said : the ability to adapt quickly to a challenging battlefield is (a big) part of the game.
I'm looking forward to next round!

Looney,
Not necessarily the case, my library evidently not as well stocked as our friend Jeroen's, they discarded old "Life", "People", "US", "National Inquirer" and other well regarded publications and as a result I am well-read!!!
Or are you saying I battle like on old man?
And it is a WWII war game, not necessarily the stuff of a younger generation! I am sure they are out there though!

Hey guys,
I released 'Paradrop at Kanev' online for everyone to try. The reason I did this is that I had some problems with the scenario working(just a couple of times). Please give it a try if you so desire. Remember that U.S. paratroopers are used, but they fight the Axis just the same.
NOTE TO COMMANDERS:This does not mean that you can't choose this scenario as one for the tournament. I'm 99% sure it will work.

Eric, there are definitively issues with Paradrop at Kanev: I tried for 3 times, but was unable to play for the allies: as soon as I clicked on the hex to drop the paras, the game would freeze. Also, once, while playing axis, Johnny left the game (!) This is a novelty to me!..

Eric,
Apparently Sam's strength carries over to my computer as well!! Must be a SON after Sam's name, some powerful stuff!!
Yes, tried twice and froze once and the other the AXIS hightailed it back to Berlin!!!
Maybe a simple fix, who knows, not having designed a darn thing all my life!! Does look like fun though.

I understood perfectly. And if you're that old, you probably don't have that much hair.
Here in metro New York, Son of Sam was a serial killer 30-40 years ago, who (if I recall correctly) believed that a dog was telling him to do it.

Hi guys,
Sam has picked Belgorod- Bogodukhov Offensive as the second scenario.
Also, he has chosen Clorofila as our 2 point player.
Since Landing at Malaya Zemlya occured in Feb. '43, it will be our 5th battle. It is now online.
Helcat now picks his 2 point player, sets the lineups, and then play can begin.

Report from the front. I was just playing Landing at Malaya Zemlya as the Russians (can't get enough practice in to get into your minds now can I? )
And a really strange thing happened. Visibility was 3 hexes. I played a recon right thinking to activate my special forces and the armor unit behind it. But the computer would not let me. So I started clicking away trying what the computer would let me do, and the only option that worked was:

So after trying everything else I decided to go for this "order" and see if i could order the germans and my own troops. What happened was that the computer started an airstrike on the German hex, leaving me worried I would be bombing my own men. But that did not happen, the turn ended after the russian aircraft bombed the germans.
I feel it was a strange fluke that would not even have happened if I had ordered my two units in another order. But I can't be sure.
And before some says it: I have sent in a bug report.

Jeroen,
I have to say I haven't come across that happening in any scenario I've played. I'm hoping it was just a fluke occurance. It's hard to anticipate something so strange. This scenario has worked well though in all the instances that I played it. I think it will be a fun one for everyone.

Maybe someone would like to try and play a recon and select two units, that does not seem to be working fine.
Something with Gung Ho, blitz and the Hill rule. (I wasn't on one of the hills when I did it by the way.

In a game just now, my Russians played a Recon-1 in full daylight.
I clicked an enemy unit, to see whether it would let me. (It did.)
But after I unclicked the German unit, I was able to click only one of my own units, despite the Gung-Ho rule. It sounds like you're right, that the Blitz rule (air strike or order one unit) is taking priority over the Gung-Ho rule.

Yes, Blitz Air Power can be used before the sun is up. However, this scenario was written for head to head play. All of us realize we won't use it before then. The computer AI does not recognize night rules and will play any card that can't be used before full daylight. The card will be played but nothing happens as it is negated by night rules. It ends up being a wasted card for the AI. Try to play this scenario against other fellows to get a flavor of how this scenario plays out.
Sending in a bug report is a waste of time as nothing has been corrected in over a year.
