Things to make Ticket to Ride better (PC Version for Steam)?! Wishes and Must Have Wink For DoW and Developers!
Hope Days of Wonder and developers read this thread. Community too Wink. Post your ideas! Thank you for your interest in TTR and this thread!

What do you think about this ideas? Post your comments!

I like all the board maps. Hope all the stuff is available soon for digital game too! Very nice for me: A leader board for each offline map!

NEW: Wish-Want-list - Consolidation list of the community:

- All the board maps for PC too plus extension (custom maps sounds good too)
- Leaderboard for each offline map
- More stats like as of Day of wonder website
- Ability to kick/ban another player (jerk stop ;-])
- Better AI for offline games (AI sometimes very silly-no ending strategy)
- Additional ability to click on the tickets to show them all
- More visibility when its your turn (like Memoir 44)
- Hotseat mode (offline multiplayer human vs human)
- Home Network mode

Custom rules (certainly unranked):
- Switch for using double route by 2/3 players
- Switch for using train station for all the maps

Bug fixing:
- online game: if game text is too long, letters of player name are overwritten
- if you came from online mode (watching a live game as audience) and then you go back to offline mode sometimes it doesnt work anymore (click offline game - nothing appears) - some grafic is missing - update: same as; after watching a live game and then going into the next online game, after first action, no further updates happen => you have to end TTR and restart game!!!
- if you watch an online game, there is no chance to watch ending score - game Ends and you are in the lobby
- delete ignored players is only possible with TTR version you have ignored (steam or online game from days of wonder)

I didn't read the whole thread, so someone else may have requested this, but PLEASE let us turn off the voices. I don't need to be told to "Click on the ticket" or to hear about the waiter every time I change screens. It got old within about 5 minutes.

Chromecast support for pass and play

It would be amazing to be able to cast the game board to the TV while in a pass-to-play game on a tablet. Everyone can keep an eye on what's going on without being able to see the other players cards/routes/etc..

Could keep track of all the scores, trains and tickets around the edge and just have a massive version of the board in the middle of the screen.

GUI request, followed by achievement criticism/proposal

A number of the achievements are extremely time-consuming, and the GUI makes them more so.

For example, pursuing Pressure Gauge 300 or 400 means drawing 30+ destination tickets. At the end of the game I REALLY don't want to go through all my tickets again BUT I TOTALLY want to see what tickets the bot(s) has/have.

Since you only give us an indiscriminate Fast-Forward button we either have to slog through ALL of our own tickets to see the bots' OR forego knowing why we've failed for the 200th straight time.

A single-player FFwd button (Skip; a single right-pointing chevron) would go a LONG way to making these pursuits less tiresome, time-consuming and annoying.

Frankly, the GUI as-is is a significant contributor to my decision to abort failed achievement attempts rather than play them out. Not getting credit for playing a game that cost us 10-20 minutes of our time is salt in the wound when having to make 10-25 attempts before we get a opening that makes the achievement even halfway possible.

As a side, I hardly consider 15-tickets punched (on US classic map) or Pressure Gauge 300/400 (on US Mega) "achievements". They are time sinks that get earned almost purely through luck - and possibly perseverance - not skill, effort, strategy or anything else. Failure doesn't bring us experience or get us closer to completing them the next time around. The same holds here. As such they don't, or shouldn't carry any bragging rights.

More importantly, repeating the same game over and over, ad nauseum isn't FUN! After a while, I get to feeling that these aren't "Days Of Wonder", they are "Days Of Wonder Why I Bother"! To me, asking, or even suggesting, that your customers "spend {your} time doing this" is disrespectful and/or disdainful of them.

For a metaphor, would anyone really consider surviving a gunshot to the head an achievement? It might be a blessing and/or a miracle, but not an achievement. That's how I feel about these achievements, including the pain implied.

Using myself as an example, I've attempted Pressure Gauge 400 about 150 times. My best result was the 3rd try which earned me Pressure Gauge 300 for the 1st time: I broke 390. Things rapidly degenerated thereafter.

Fully 1/3 of my attempts have been dead in the water before my first turn:
a. The bot held 1 or more key destination cards;
b. On its 1st turn the bot played onto a track that is essential to earning the achievement;
c. My flop of 5 destination cards had no combination of 3 cards that didn't include at least 12 points of unworkable dead-weight;
d. any combination of A-C that cumulatively prevents a score of 400.

Is that supposed to be fun or rewarding for us?

Nearly all of the 150-or-so were no longer feasible before they really got going. More than once I thought or said out loud (to the bot) "could you at least let me play, please"? Out of the 150 attempts I think I got credit for playing...somewhere between 5 and 15 games, probably closer to 5.

At least 30 games were aborted late enough in the play that the time spent playing was comparable to a normal game, perhaps even longer, but once the goal was no longer possible I decided not to throw good time after bad, and further, avoided the many minutes long parade of tickets at games' end, and aborted to move on to the next attempt.

So, while I'm pursuing THIS 'achievement', I'm making little to no progress towards the Conductor Level 3/4/5 achievements.

( Speaking of which, 20,000 games played? Really? That's 5 games a day, every day, for ELEVEN YEARS. Maybe that's doable for the phone/MobDev commuters out there, but that's nuts for PC/Mac users. )

I don't even think there's much in the way of satisfaction for earning these achievements. To me, they are "the very worst part of your job" -- you don't get a sense of accomplishment when you complete it, just relief that it's over. Again, that's not fun.

Here's an alternate achievement that I think is "different" and could be fun for a significant portion of your user base:

Draw X destination cards. Play all 45 of your trains without completing ANY segments along those routes. (Only the shortest path, the one that gives the card its point value, matters here.)

I leave it up to your testers & designers to determine a suitable value for X. Please notice that I didn't state "Win while..." Winning with this strategy would be next to impossible for all but the smallest values of X.

This achievement is a significant departure from the thinking and strategy used in nearly every other scenario, so I suspect most people would enjoy trying it... if for no other reason than it will FEEL like you are playing the way the AI often seems to! Pinwheel around Helena, anyone? Very Happy

A lookup table implementation should be easy enough without being a resource hog given the finite number of tickets and routes.

Version 2:

Draw X destination cards. Win without passing through ANY of the stations named on your tickets.

This should be an absolute snap to implement, and is almost as fun.

Incidentally, setting things up for either of these proposed achievements such that people have to use all of their initial flop, and perhaps all of their next Y draw(s) prevents this from becoming essentially the same as Pressure Gauge 300/400 and 12/15 Tickets Punched achievements -- meaning it should prevent people from having to play hundreds of games, spending significant time in each attempt, in order to assemble the most synergistic set of cards possible. We're here to play with trains, not to collect shiny Pokemon or play gin rummy.

That's it for now.

Thanks!
