Match #1: CIA dizz vs AAA_Pammes = 3-3

Match #2: CIA ommie vs AAA_dea1 = 3-3

Game 1, ssm ok/kc hou vs sea ny/van fe, dea's start. I started 6 grey and 6 white, dea took 6 orange 6 yellow and 6 pink. Not a whole lot I could do after that with my colors. Had longest and 1 ticket to find at the end, but wasn't enough. Win for dea.

Game 2, van mon/dul paso vs cal pho/win hou. I had 6 orange, 6 white and 6 grey. Dea took 6 yellow, 4 hel-cal and 4 blue to win. 3 to van and 4 green for me, 5 red and 4 pink for dea. 3 pho-paso for dea, 2 to fe and 2 to paso for me. I take 5 black and 4 sea-cal (hoping for longest), she had 5 white and 6 green. Dea doesn't have longest, so she draws and finds 2 tix...ugh. I finish my longest with 3 to ssm, and 1 van-sea. After she draws, she lays 1 to kc, I then lay 2 to dul and then she lays 6 black. ugh. I'm almost positive she had 25 to start, so any other tic with kc hou is enough. But, I have lingering doubt about den paso...so, I don't draw. Win by 4 for her.

Game 3 la chi/cal slc vs sea la/den pitt. This one is a brutal fight in the west, and I have 9 locos this game. 6 orange for me, 6 black for her, 6 yellow for me. I lay 3 pink la-sanfr and she lays 5 orange. I figure I've got enough locos to cause some trouble. 5 green (with 3 locos) for me, 1 sea-port for her and then i lay 6 blue using 4 locos. 3 pink hel-slc for her, 3 red to slc for me, 4 green for her. At this point i have more pink, but need more colors. She lays 6 grey, I lay 2 dul-oma. 3 ssm-dul for her, so I have to lay 3 red using 2 last locos. Dea lays 2 to tor and 2 to pitt, and I have enough time to overdraw enough to complete my tix with 4 pink and 4 sea-cal. Win for me with longest and sea/la dead for her.

Game 4 van fe/cal slc vs hel la/den paso. This also is another messy game in the west. 6 yellow for me, 6 orange for her, 6 white for me, 6 yellow on grey for her. I think for a while and then decide to lay 6 black, figuring it's important for me. I think she then laid 4 green and I lay 3 pink la sanfr. Again, she takes 5 white sanfr-slc. I take 2 to fe, she take 6 red, 3 red to slc for me, 6 pink for her. I see the writing on the wall..she's going out fast, but I don't know if she has den pitt. So I take 3 pink hel-slc. I think she ended with 5 black and 5 blue, I ended with 3 to van and then 4 sea-cal. Longest+tix complete vs no tix was enough to win it for me.

Game 5 mon atl/tor mia vs win hou/chi no. She starts with 6 green and 4 pink, I start with 6 orange. Then debate about what she has...she waiting on something and I don't want her to sneak in la mia, so I lay 6 red. She counters with 2 tor-pitt. Pff. 4 white for me, 3 orange for her, 2 white for me, 4 blue for her, 2 stl-lr for me and then 6 freaking locos on 6 pink for her. I finish my route with 3 green, 3 to mon, 4 yellow to atl and 6 blue. She has longest with 4 red, 5 yellow, 4 black to win, 2 hou-no and then 2 mon-bos. Since she didn't lay 4 white instead of 2 and 2, I figure she's got chi no. She's winning by 1 with those tix, so I draw and find nothing... grrr. A different route with 5 green, 4 yellow, 5 blue and maybe 5 black might've given me the win. I had 2 singles to end with. Sad

Game 6, port nash/la chi vs cal pho/port pho. I get 6 orange, 6 yellow for her and then 6 black for me. 6 green for her, and 3 la-sanfr for me. 1 sea-port,5 red, 4 pink and 5 white for her, 5 green, 2 ok-lr and 3 white to nash for me. I connect up 2 and 2 to chi and then 3 red to dul to continue longest. She loops with 4 sea-cal, 4 cal-hel and 4 blue to win. I'm able to get extra blue to finish with 6 blue to match her longest in the end. No draw from her = win for me.

Tough fight in all these games since we were in each other's way the entire time.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CIA!! Very Happy

Thank you very much for the tough games.
In the end, I realized I had much better tix
in most of the games. None the less, all of
the games were really hard.

Re:NC2014 Knockout: Schedule and Results Fri, 07 November 2014 18:24
As usual, an NC match I don't win keeps my mind busy until I have found what I could have done better - my brain produced no useful results so far, so any ideas would be very welcome.

Let's start with this one:

Before playing SF-SLC I held 6 pink, 6 red, 5 blue, 5 black, 4 white, 1 loco, 1 green.
My idea was: With SF-SLC Ommie will need 5 more moves to connect her tracks. She won't get more than that and only small tracks if I just go longbot. Only way she can complete 2 ticks is when she has Cal-SLC together with Sea-LA (if she needs to connect) or Cal-SLC with Van-Stfe or Cal-Phe if she doesn't need to connect the 6 black as I have the other 2 ticks on the way myself. If one of her ticks is dead, longbot strategy is good enough.
Trying to make my ticks (or at least Hel-LA) seemed less appealing, probably still no chance for longest and more time for Ommie.

Any thoughts from the experts?

dea, I'm not 100% sure, but if I'm not wrong in the last game you played hou-no to finish before ommie's 6 blues, should you have played dall-little rock you've got the longest playing houston-dallas and the game.

thx pegaso (even though I think you're wrong Wink )

IIRC my route was (right to left):
No-Hou; 6 green; Phe-EP; 5 White; 4 pink; 5 red; 6 yellow;
1 to Po and 4 to Cal; Cal-Hel; 4 blue = 44
Don't remember taking an open loco so I think I had no extra card for Hou-Dal.

First question on game 6 is: Do you keep Win-Hou together with Po-Phe/Cal-Phe?
In the end that was the only additional tick I would have completed ... you feel pretty silly when you realize that it cost you the win not to keep that ... and read in the lobby "mistake, she must have drawn" Smile

to complete the picture I copy Ommie's Report (thx Ommie btw)

AGT-Schachus vs CAT pegaso 4:2

119*-97°(+VAN-MON +Den-pitts vs.+SSM-Nash +Win-LR(drawn: -VAN-SF))
131-126*°(+Sea-NY+LA-Chi(drawn:+Sea-LA + Cal-SLC) vs. +Win-LR+ Dul-EP(?))
131*°-100(+Van-Mon+Win-LR vs. +KC-Hou +Dul-Hou)
102°-104*(+Mon-NO+Win-Hou vs.+ SSM-Nash+ Win-LR(not sure about his tix here anymore, I hope I got it right ..))
89°-75*(+Van-Mon - Por-Nash vs-SSM-Nash-Mon-Atl)
74-92°(-Dul-EP -Dul-Hou vs. +Cal-SLC -Win-Hou)

1.game I win thx to better tix and start, but he played well giving him the opportunity to draw for the win(3 chances to draw, 1 of which I could rule out, since I had discarded Den-EP, and Den-Ep would not have been enough so only 1 real chance).
In the last but one turn whith 5 red two loco in hand and 8 trains left(2 card, 3 trains left for him, all in longest until now), I could also decide to go for 44 longest with laying 4+3, but if he can draw to 3 black(one open black), he makes it 45 longest and I might lose depending on his ticket points. Thus I decided to lay 6 red, giving up longest, but securing the win, if he doesnt draw(which he could, that way).

2.I have a lot of ticket points but slow route against the very fast route of Pegaso(9 Turns+ 1 overdraw), hence no chance for longest and I must draw(with 1 round to go). I find Sea-LA and Cal-SLC which I can finish by going to Cal last round(had 3 tickets on the route, 2 winning, one tieing(in retrospect), plus 3 tickets that I could finish last round with 1 extra move(not enough to win, but I didnt know that)). Sea-La alone would have also been enough by 1 point.

3.I think I played quite well, he tried to disturb me a little, but not much to do against my tickets +start.

4.Maybe the decision for Mon-NO+ Win-Hou and against La-Chi was wrong. In any case, I played too slowly(could have done faster), and was one turn short(in fact, I was even lucky, he could not finish it off even 1 round earlier). Well done by him, although the points were pretty close.

5. was really weird. I alsmost got blocked off Van-Mon and only made it thanks to lots of locos. I had a Chance of going for Por-Nash, but it was extremely slow, relatively easily blockable and without longest. Instead I tried to go in his way a little + secure longest. To my surprise that worked quite well(althogh I didnt even block much), and my victory was obvious in the end since he had no tix on his route. I feel he could have won this one.

6. I got a good start with nice tix and colors but not too many locos. The decisive moment was when he took 5 red(using a loco). I had 6 green, 6 orange, 4 pink vs. 6 black and now 5 red of his. I felt I should take 6 yellow(he had taken open 2 yellow before, so I thought he wants them), allowing the dul-omaha block. He strongly played that block despite he couldnt really know I had not enough locos to connect via 4 green(well done). As he had enough locos to follow up 3 red after my 4 blue, I was pretty much cut off and tried to finish fast with trackpoints disturbing him.It didnt work out, as he was doing pretty much the same thing, but did finish a ticket.
Without 6 yellow(Dul-Oma instead), I would likely have won, as he would have trouble finishing Win-Hou anyway.

Overall much better tix for me

CIA vs AAA

scorps vs Angel6

4-2

I am fuzzy on some of the tix so apologies in advance...Angel started 1-3-5

100-113
Hel-La/Cal-SLC vs. Van-Mon/Ny-Atl

I got on the board with orange and white; Angel with yellow, gray and purple, 5 red, 2 dul; I can't make up my mind which way to go, end up with 6 black and 4 green and a mess of other things; Angel goes out quickly with six green and can play the 1 to van on the last turn, so even though I finish mine and have longest, his track points are enough to earn the win.

115-111
Cal-Pho/Hel-LA; Van-SF/Cal-SLC?

Fairly straight forward the whole way; I was able to scratch out longest by ending up the west side.

118-114
LA-Mia/KC-Hou; Por-Pho/Van-SF I think

I remember agonizingly holding off playing green and red in this game in an attempt to get to Mia. I was able to get black and 5 white, and kept trying to stall in an attempt to get Angel to play the green from hel-den, but no dice. He had grabbed the orange yellow and blue. I finally cracked and played 2 to hou; he followed with six green; I the one to dal and four red; luckily four yellow to atl and five blue (he had taken six blue earlier); I was able to play six purple on gray earlier to at least get track points; I was able to snag longest along with completing both

110-99
LA-Mia/NY-Atl; Den-Pit/KC-Hou

Interesting game from the get-go; I had absolutely no black but did have orange so went ahead and laid those. Angel took black and I the six green using 2 locs. He followed with 4 purple and I the 5 white, then the three gray from elp-pho. I also was able to snag the 6 blue, hoping to maybe make him think Por-Pho and something else up top. He grabs the grays and whites. I lay the 2 to hou and then six reds; LA still not connected. with six yellow/2 purple/1 loc and a single of something else, I lay the 3 to la. Seeing only one tick completed on his route I place the yellow to go out, and the 1 to finish. He gets longest but misses kc-hou; I have enough track points.

112-116
LA-Chi/Sea-LA; Por-Pho/Por-Nash

We kind of got in each other's way this game; Angel grabbed 6 black/blue/yellow/green in there; leaving me with orange and the grays up top; shortage of locs prevented me from snagging another 6er. So even though I connected up the west through-por-cal-hel-chi and was able to get longest in the end, his track points were enough to triumph.

119-113
LA-Chi/SSM-OkC; Win-LR/Dal-NY/Dul-ElP (drawn toward the end)

Again colors and locs were interesting. 7 blues in hand so I snagged the grays up top first; Angel the orange; I the four green; he ended up with 6 white and purple along with the four blue and 2 tor-pit and the pit-ny and 5 green down to lr and dal + 4 red to elp after drawing tix; I was able to go with 5 red, 2 white to tor; 4 white to chi, four blue (had drawn more open); six black (most drawn open); 5 yellow; 2 gray and 4 orange to connect in middle; got longest and eked out the win.

Overall tight games. Thanks for the games Angel.
