I won 4 2, with a decisive 6th game.
Sven found tix on last turn, but that was not enough.
Good tix on both sides, nice routes every game, pleasant clash against Sven and CUT in general.

I'm here from 2014 year and all years tried to make RUS team as strong as possible. We grow up from year to year:
NC 2014: failed group
NC 2015: made PO
NC 2016: semifinal
NC 2017: final

Yes I understood this year less teams than usual. But we have what we have.

In final we will opposite top performers from 2 French teams (champ & taka) but I promise you we will make it as hard as can!

Thank you all my teammates for having opportunity being here in final!

So discussing the final first of all I want to say big congrats to our opponents and my buddies Sylvain, Nico, LG and my friend Gilles!

Well deserved with a strong play!

Second I want you to remember:

Nations Cup Rules 2017 (adapted from Nations Cup Rules 2016)

...

NEW for 2017
18. Platform details
There is an expectation that a person signing up for this tournament needs to be ready to play on either the java or Steam platform.

It is hoped that players can work out a suitable choice of the platform to be played for their match. Since there are some people who have strong preferences on what platform they prefer to play their match, it is possible that during any match the platform being played could alternate between Steam and java. In such a case where the choice of platform cannot be agreed upon by the players, choice of the platform for the first game therefore goes to the higher seeded player; then each game will proceed alternately on each platform.

If in such a case a player is not willing to play on one of the platforms, then in case of alternating platforms, the player refusing to play on the platform loses that game of which they refuse to play.

Especially for Nico and Sylvain Smile

Line-ups have to be send to my coach and friend Marco Pellini.

Good luck and have fun in final!

I think Nicolas21 has difficulties logging onto steam. We played over 200+ 2p games against each other (likely my most or second most frequent opponent, other being scorps), but a game of Asia map between us has never happened, despite Nico constantly asked me to play Asia, because of such difficulty. I heard in steam we can invite players who never bought the map.

If such rule is enforced, he might need to figure it out. And maybe we can give me some Asia coaching Laughing .

So three things:
1. Congrats RUS on the win vs. BAM. (and congrats TGV for getting to finals)

2. Sorry RUS Docent CMEPTb for mix up on score placement, but I got the colors right, and the TGV win right. Sundays I am pressed for time.

3. In two notes directly above, including Allan ("If such rule is enforced, he might need to figure it out.) One way this type of issue has been dealt with in past NC is to have captains decide to place person not willing to play steam in 4th position.
(Before the situation was: player 4 can only play a certain weekend; please captain put someone in position 4 who can play that weekend)
Just saying that could be an option if captains would agree.

I knew steam is a scam when I played about 15 2p games on steam and I probably got 1 start in total (I didn't started a single time two days ago when I played on Steam). Guys abusing starter button giving themselves the start Smile, or I should buy the lottery..

Tie breaker in case of 2-2 12-12 is slot one.

If we think our best chance to win is to put Nico (who can't play steam at all) in slot one, what can happen ?

Something to change in the tie-breaker rule...

Yesterday after out move to Java Allan was bottled 2 times. He really lucky it was not in the last turns cause he have to accept 1 bot turn. In steam it's impossible.

One time I bot out due to too many apps opened. The other time I intentionally botted then rejoined because I had a legitimate decision.

There is not a fixed rule about that.

In the past captains mad an agreement for slot 4 for a similar case.

However I fully understand the desire of TGV of having their strongest player in the tie breaker slot.
If the captains do not reach an agreement they can do that.ù

It is a matter of gifting away for sure an advantage in the line-up or fearing that a botting "could" happen.

No rule about this so TGV could make their line-up as they prefer.

Why don't we do the following ?
The player (if only one) in RUS that can only play steam puts himself on 4th spot Razz

In TGV we can all play java, and some can play steam to accommodate this special need, but not all.

We don't have a player which is able to play on one particular platform only. We did proof that in this tournament already. We can all play both, we just want the game to be fair, without those ridicolous "1 bot turn is ok" rules. The final must be played with absolutely random pairs, thats what I am 100% sure about. Without those special 4th places for special players.

My opinion on that : I do not think it is necessary to play on steam at all.
We would lose most spectators and playing on steam does not add much value. The "botted player" case you mention is very marginal.
Remember, we play TTR for fun, and the tournaments have always been played with respect of each other.
If one gets botted out, it is up to the players to decide.

One example in this NC is my game against Fainaz : server crashed (that can happen on any platform). I asked him his tix, to confirm he had sure win, and gave the game up. The game was never recorded or played to end, but it really does not matter.

There is no reason that we cannot accommodate an event that might occur during final.
Worst case, some random event disturbs the already random execution of games. It's really just a game, we had fun so far in the tournament and get to play another exciting clash, we are both winners.
There is no reason to complicate things by having some new and convoluted steam requirement.

I thought most players, who is/was interested in playing/watching NC did install steam and tried to play it, just didn't love it.

You sound like a top sportment: "Guys we do it for you, our spectators, if not you nothing of this would be possible...blahblahblah" Smile)))

And that comes from a guy who plays his decisive half-final match without an ad, after post at the very final moment at the forum, without spectators. You really care about specs so much, I mean honestly?

Who really does want to watch games but not able to do this?? Is that really a problem? Would be great to make a pole somehow.

Of course Im ready to compromise, if we really loose the majority of the specs, as you say, I just don't believe this is the case at the moment.

Thanks for your note. I confirm I was happy to play with Schwen with little anticipation as we managed to find good compromise given our challenging constraints. Of course it is better when it can be played with people watching.

I gave my opinion, that's it. Our captains and TD will take the best decision based on experience and opinions expressed by the community.

There is nothing to discuss at this stage to be honest. Rules are the rules. Let's just have a fair random draw and we won't get any platform-related issues probably.

If you think NC is not about spectators, then you know nothing of its history nor how fun it's been.

If you have never chatted on skype with other players while watching an NC match, you've totally missed out. NC has been the most important tournament on ttr and spectators have been a big part of it. I realize there are players who don't like to observe games and that's too bad.

Sysy and I have been disappointed with the Steam experience. For long time players, Steam just doesn't match our expectations. I understand the bot issue. If Steam were a perfect upgrade, there would be no platform discussion.

Sounds like TGV and RUS can just submit their lineups and go with what is selected. Smile

what i did ask is can you observe games on steam if you want to? or you'd like to but didn't get steam? you cant both skype and watch the game on steam, thats the issue?

Java environment is easier to manage together with Skype than Steam.

More important: the observe function was faulty in last NC. This is the part that Ommie addresses. I didn't try it in later upgrades, but in the patch notes there weren't remrks about the observe function.

NC is all about observe the other games. That is the reason for which closed games are forbidden. We thought about playing closed when cheating was a big trouble but went other ways because keeping games open and observable was crucial.

Single competitions are a different topic but team competitions developed on building team spirit through skype chatrooms where we discussed games live while observing.

In any case this is not of big importance, because the real future lies in developing more the players pool of the Steam lobby.

A Postscriptum:

The big falldown was that we were the beta-testers of the Steam version a couple of years ago and we were not aware that the two lobbies would heave been divided creating a rift between the players (nice communication Laughing ) .
That was the final straw: DOW members always saw online competitions as an afterthought and they progressed without their direct help. When we tried to collaborate with them nothing happened of relevant.
We felt betrayed by the lack of communication that practically killed what the TTR competitions were online. We just needed a warning about what they were thinking of doing. Now we are just living a shadow of before Razz

I'm ok for the chess games. I'd also suggest a duplicate IMP bridge match and a very deep stack poker with 10/20€ blinds. We could also add some go to the mix.

I am sorry this line has developed about Steam versus java. Both are needed in the community, so let us move forward.

But let me say one thing about the observe feature on Steam: I have had it stick where allan and sivorro were playing. It occurred when each spent more than a minute thinking about their move. They had moved forward, and I was stuck watching a clock say it was someone's turn. I was fortunately watching with skype on with khup, and he told me a play had happened. I had to leave and come back to see more action.
So yes the observable feature is still a problem with bugs in it on skype.

BUT also, I will tell you for that match, some 8 people were observing from steam lobby.
