Europe Winter Tournament Double Elimination 2007 Fri, 02 February 2007 16:26
Europe Winter Tournament Double Elimination

I am trying to put quickly together a tournament using the Europe Board. I am looking for 8 to 32 players to play in a tournament that may last a few weeks through the winter.
The tournament is to be FOR FUN!!!!

We will use the basic bracket system for 16 players or 32 players depending on how many sign up.

Beginning February 12th, when pairings will be put into this forum list, people will find their playing opponent through the private messaging, set up a game and play a best of 5 games match. Winner then will use this site to put down the results of your match.
The winner moves on in the winning bracket side, and the loser moves into the appropriate place on the losers bracket side.
Once a player loses two matches, they will be out of the tournament.

Any questions please pm me at onyx puffin.
Here are some notes:

A match consists of a best of 5 games played consecutively.
If a player is not available to play for a full week from when a pm has been sent, then that player shall be considered a forfeit. If there is a struggle trying to get together for a playing time, please keep us informed.

We hope this tournament can be conclude in a few short weeks

Hi

Good idea. I can offer that we organize the upper half with my tournament system. It's a standard single elimination (KO) tourney. This way someone has to organize only the lower half depending on the results of the upper half.

I am in. Hate europe map.

And please don't use the term QUICK TOURNAMENT(TM) for a tournament with a duration of one week per round, thank you Surprised Rolling Eyes Cool

bye, erps

http://www.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~erps/zugtournament/i ndex.cgi?command=show&login=&passwd=&tour=Europe +Best+of+Five+Double+Elimination.tour

I propose we use combined EUROPE ranking AND 2 PLAYER ranking for seeding. I am sure i can modify my system to use these points for seeding!

organizers will be myself, erps and Shamogi. Shamogi has agreed to put results and table on his web site set up for TTR.

One other note to all players: erps, shamogi and I will determine system of seating players. It will be based on overall, and Europe rank.

If it's for fun, which to me means unrated, I'll play as I don't plan on getting back to this map for a bit, so I'll just wing it. If not, no problem but I'm out.

Onyx, I think the most we've ever had in an individual tourney was 30 or 31 and that was U.S. I think you'll be waiting awhile to get 32 here.

I'm in.

I prefer playing rated - at least that's what I do by default.
If an opp insists on unrated so be it.

Onyx, I think you should state somewhere what happens if 2 opps don't agree.

Hi

I suppose we have the following rules:

All games open
Games are default unrated, rated if both players wish so
No ties, play again
NC Bot rule (unfortunately the best available)

And an advice to thekid: Play at least ONE rated europe game even if you hate it. Otherwise you are last in the seeding list and this is not really the thing we want here.

I changed the seeding to the europe AND 2 player rankings, so we have numbers above 3000 (both numbers are added).

bye, erps

Tournament sign up is getting close to over. Sign up by Saturday, Feb. 10th

We are looking for more players. We are recruiting right now, and truly hope to have 32 players by Saturday. my feeling is it is better to have players than to have people get a bye in the first round or second round of loser bracket. So please sign in,

Use the link from erps note above to get yourself signed in.

Regeln / Rules
Europa-Turnier / Europe-Tournament

2 Players, Europe Map.
2 Spieler, Europakarte.

It is best of Five (Bo5), after 3 wins proceed to next round. Loser goes down in Loser Bracket. After 2 losses you are out.

Final: If last player of winner bracket wins final he wins tournament. If he loses final there must be played a second final for real winner (otherwise it is unfair because no other player was out with only one loss!)

Loser bracket: More to come
Verliererhälfte: Mehr demnächst

Games will be rated if BOTH players agree. Otherwise unrated.
Ansonsten ungewertet.

Ties are not counted, play the game again.
Unentschieden zählen nicht, neues Spiel.

The no bot rule is in effect. Wait for other player, one round bot move is not to avoid. After 4 minutes of waiting leave the game and try a resume within 24 hours. Otherwise win for player who was not botted.

All games are observable.
Alle Spiele müssen beobachtbar sein.

bye, erps

Hi,

I think I will join in this tournament (try to play a little Europe... for very medium results... hmmm Rolling Eyes ).

But I'd like to know how the "Loser Bracket" will work (because, there are many many chance for me to be out there after my 1st round Confused )...

If I lose my 1st round, I will play again at least once. If I lose again, it's over for me, simple. But if I win, what happens ?
And if (by miracle !) I win my 1st round and then lose my 2nd round, what happens ? Am I out (after only 1 lost) ? Or will I play vs a player from the "Loser Bracket" ? And so on for the next rounds...

One last question : when is precisely the deadline for signing up ? Could it be on sunday, please ?

BTW, thanks a lot onyx (and erps to follow) for organizing this tournament Thumbs Up

Cu,
Elric Cool

PS : No, erps, I'm not dead Wink

PPS : I bet 10 bucks on David... Come on, RED TGV Very Happy

I just don't agree on one point:

the final is only one game.
If the WB loose the "first" game final: it is over.
For sure, the WB loosing the final is "out" with only 1 lost game, but replay the final is not fun at all.

It is a nice tournament system:
Volleytom and the Leleline's, volley ball players, will agree with this Beach Volley Ball system Cool

Re:Europe Winter Tournament Double Elimination Sat, 10 February 2007 23:06
Hi

Both systems are used worldwide.

I think it is not fair for the WB winner to lose the tournament with ONE loss as all others lose with TWO losses.

The one final system is mainly used in sports with high physical stress and it is assumed that having one or maybe three matches less during a tournament is a big advantage for the WB winner.

But a TTR match is 5 games a week, everybody can play that and having MORE games is an advantage for the LB winner, because europe is seldom played.

I recommend to use the double final system, it is 2 best of five matches. Otherwise we could have the problem, that the WB winner have beaten the LB winner say 3:0 and is losing the final 2:3. Sounds really not fair to me.

Onyx Puffin suggested to schedule the LB with fixed number instead of seeding every round new. In this case consider for seeding that in WB always the lower seeded player loses (in first round 17 to 32, in second round 9 to 16 and so on) and in LB always the best seeded win (so after LB round 1 numbers 17 to 24 met 9 to 16 from top half) and its scheduled like in the WB (9 - 24, 16 - 17).

bye, erps

Hi

erps vs. Timo und Jojo 3:1

Two times i was lucky with my ticks, one time he. Last game i blocked him with good colors out of all his ticks.

As usual in europe: No locos -> you lose, Edinburgh-Athina -> you lose

Now Nando, i am waiting. Ah and don't be too happy, i can live with the favorite burden *grin

bye, erps

CoolJ and I played our games tonight. Final result :

CoolJ [2:3] Elric

No other explanation that I was more lucky. Totally and terribly lucky, cause I won the 5th game by 2 pts with drawing the "only" Shocked tix that was on my route !
Don't know why but I really like the numbers 117 and 119 Wink

Thank you for the games, CoolJ, you are a tough opponent, and you probably deserved the victory more than me... Good luck in your next games !

I think he underestimated me a little bit Wink
He started all games, i had the better ticks in the 3 games i won. Europe is luck Smile

bye, erps

P.S. i have to add that it is in my opinion a shame that the current number one in europe play the europe tournament games unrated... reason was observation Wink i think the real reason was fear (and he was correct!)

it's difficult to keep track of matches in this tournament!
would be nice if times of matches are published on Shamogi's site, like in NC.
or, at least, could all use EUROPE or ET plus the 2 players names or something in opening the games so if you are in lobby you can see there is a match on ?!

it brings more life to a tournament if there is public!

Very Happy

I'm just translating...

'If you think so, erps.
I just say this: If, than everyone had to play rated. Why should I risk my points if other don't? I had played the tournament in NC-form as rated and in groups, 'cos there is obvious more exciting.
I am sure, that you, as a player with less points, had taken a positiv stock out of only 2 winnings. So don't complain but win the thing. If you don't you'll be sorry and I'll cme and kich you're a** !! Very Happy'

Well done on beating the pretender Nando (can'tdo Twisted Evil )

I knew you would Erps. I am just surprised that he beat you twice!

But then again he did start all 5 games and perhaps you might have pulled an "erps I did it again!" move in some of those. Smile Smile

You know I love you now and forever Erps. Not in some sissy or german way of course Smile but in a manly american friend way.

I found out Nando has me on his ignore list (guess he got tired of feeling so little and scared everytime he read my challenges) so I can say ANYTHING I WANT! yea!!!!

Not that I have ever NOT said anything I want I guess.

so Can'tdo Rafeal even in your favorite little map and going first everytime you lost to someone ranked lower than you in Europe. hmmmmm. what does that say once again folks???? Yes that is correct Can'tdo's rating is overvalued and bogus.

Ah it's nice to be right 100% of the time aint it? Razz Razz

Peace and love to all you non pretenders, non cheaters and non fienders.

Hi all!!

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Ich bitte diese Entscheidung zu akzeptieren.
