D-Day landings achieved! Mon, 13 October 2014 15:30
On October 11th at the Compleat Strategist in New York City we scheduled a 12 player game of D-Day landings. Two people didn't show up so two of us played two maps.

I took Sword and Juno for the allies. The Allies won a close game. 78/65 with the previous turn running 61/71 so a big swing in that final turn.

It took about 1.5 hours to set up, 3.5 hours to play and .5 hours to tear down.

Logistically we had a few issues that I would seek to iron out next time around:

1. Syncing up at the move and battle points on a turn is really tricky for 6 players. Some time was lost thinking people were still playing when they were not. We ended up abandoning the sync on move to make sure we finished on time.
2. Keeping track of medals is not easy. In a two player game it is easy to know exactly when the win criteria is achieved. Not so much here.
3. Keeping track of on-the-move and ordered units is difficult. We used red and green beads that we placed before moving anything. Green for on-the-move and red for ordered. Then we moved, removed the green and then battled. It was a little fiddly.

Congrats on your achievement. Glad to know that the Allies still have the edge.

Great to see you had so much fun Smile
It's a fun expansion to play.

When we played this map with 12 people we used the flag on the dice to determine which units had on the move orders.
(we already had activationchips from the belgium Open for normal orders, like the ones below)

I covet those chips. Thought about generating some for this game but the amount of effort I was putting in already made me resort to coloured beads.

Congrats on playing this.

I remember visiting the Compleat Strategist way back in 1977. I bought Global War (SPI) that day. I wonder if they are in the same location.

I think so. 33rd Street. They added a couple more stores in the 80s and then shrunk back down to one.

Compleat Strategist is where I first learned about Memoir.

Great photos! I would have loved to be there, but unfortunately I didn't know about it until just now, and I had to be elsewhere that day.
