Humble Bundle Edition no longer working Wed, 25 November 2015 17:13
I purchased Ticket to Ride through a Humble Bundle a while back and have two problems:

1. the Humble Bundle edition simply does not run on Marshmallow. It crashes on launch. It appears to be an older release than the one available through the Google Play store.

2. I tried buying the app through Google play, but the maps I have bound to my Days of Wonder account don't work. The app wants me to re-buy the Europe, Swiss USA 1910 and Legendary Asia maps, even after conforming I was logged into my Days of Wonder account through the app. I ended up sending a refund request to Google for the app.

Humble Bundle's support has consisted of ignoring me. My support email to Days of Wonder was similarly ignored.

Sorry to hear you aren't able to play this great game right now. Please take a moment to report the problem using this form: http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/contact/digital-t2r/ Give us as many details as you can so that we can recreate the problem and then the team will be able to see what's going on and get it fixed. Thanks!

As far as purchasing the maps goes, can you help me understand what's going on a little more? Are you able to get into the app with a different device where you can check these purchases? Or could these two issues be related to each other?

Thanks.

I'm finally getting some vague replies from support.

Before the updates, I used the old Humble Bundle app and the old iOS apps to play:

Ticket to Ride Online with US Map
Europe Map
Swiss Map
USA 1910
Legendary Asia

Today in desperation I tried purchasing the app through Google Play. I found that despite logging in with my Days of Wonder account it wanted me to re-buy all the maps above to access them. I got Google to refund me for the briefly owned Google play version.

The iOS version will let me play a handful of US maps, but none of the other maps listed above. It asks me to buy them again. This was AFTER logging in with my Days of Wonder account.

The grand cross-platform map ownership I was enjoying is gone. At this point I'm not even sure if I DID purchase the maps again if they'd work on both platforms or just one.

It seems that there are a few things going on, but I'll need some more information before I can help very much:

1) You owned the TTR app through the Humble Bundle app. Which maps did you have there?

2) You had the game on iOS. Did you have the Pocket version for iPhones or the iPad version? Which maps did you have there?

3) Which maps do you have access to now for iOS and what device are you using?

Thanks.

1) You owned the TTR app through the Humble Bundle app. Which maps did you have there?

Between the Humble Bundle purchases and in-game purchases I owned:

The US Map that came with the Full Game
Europe Map
Swiss Map
USA 1910 (All 3 maps)
Legendary Asia

2) You had the game on iOS. Did you have the Pocket version for iPhones or the iPad version? Which maps did you have there?

I had the pocket version for iPhone and the Pocket Europe for iPhone.

3) Which maps do you have access to now for iOS and what device are you using?

When I briefly owned the Android App store version earlier today, I had access to one US map.

I just reinstalled the iOS app and have the US Map, the three 1910 maps and nothing else.

When I log into my Days of Wonder account, I'm told I supposedly have:

Ticket to Ride Online
Ticket to Ride Online with US Map
Europe Map
Swiss Map
USA 1910
Legendary Asia

I tried installing Ticket to Ride via steam, but it appears my desktop's video card is too old to support the game.

Let me investigate what's going on with the Humble Bundle. I'm not familiar with it, so when I have an answer I'll come back to this.

Here's an FAQ that will help with the Pocket version questions: http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?th=31611&start=0 Basically we aren't allowed, by Apple, to give a side-grade. This means that we can't give people who had Ticket to Ride Europe Pocket and TTR Swiss Pocket the maps as a free update or Restore those purchases in the full version, as much as we would like to.

We know this is extremely frustrating so we have discounted the map pack to $4.99 so people can grab all of the maps for the cost of only one of them! That means you can get all of the currently available maps for the same price that India will be once it's no longer on sale.

iOS and the Humble Bundle are two different systems so just because you own a map on one system, doesn't mean you automatically own it on the other. Neither system will let us honor a purchase from the other one so even though the games will play cross-platform, the purchases can't transfer cross-platform.

I hope that makes things a little more clear. let me know if you still have any questions at all and I'll get back to you about the Humble Bundle as soon as I know more.

I heard back and now have a better understanding of the Humble Bundle. The Humble Bundle version is a "stand-alone" version that doesn't run under Steam or anything else. It will be updated later on. Apparently lots of Humble Bundle users also have a Steam key so if you have one, you could use the Steam version until the Humble Bundle is updated.

In the past owning the maps through my days of wonder account were enough to use them on both iOS and Android. Now you're telling me that never worked.

Riiiight.

I tried reinstalling on iOS. Now the app is telling me I can restore my purchases if I install the full version. The problem is the full version costs $7.00.

So, to get what I had before the "upgrade" I have to spend $7.00 for a new app and $5.00 on maps, all while I'm being fed a line of nonsense about maps not being cross platform despite them working that way in the past.

At this point I'm ready to give up on running Ticket to Ride on iOS. I know from other games where in-app purchases ARE cross platform when there's a third party account involved that your inability to give me the Swiss, Europe and Asia maps on a unified iOS app is poor design on your end, not a licensing issue with either App Store. Please don't blame your design and business decisions on Apple and Google. The card packs I buy through the in-app stores for Cards and Castles and Soulforge work on iOS and android. If they can get that working, why can't you?

I want to focus on running the game on my Android tablet with all the maps IVE ALREADY PAID FOR.

Let me start by saying that we recognize there is confusion and frustration through this whole process and we're sorry about that! Our goal throughout this whole process has been to create the best digital board game experience for all of our users but things have gotten complicated with so many versions of Ticket to Ride out on so many platforms.

I'm afraid that there has never been any cross-platform activation between iOS and Android because both Apple and Google Play have a policy strictly forbidding us from doing that, even through a third party account like the Days of Wonder account. So any maps you had on your iPhone wouldn't have transferred to another device and you wouldn't have been able to play maps like Asia on the iPhone until this update.

Through Humble Bundle, which is a 'stand-alone' version that used the Online Features stored in the Days of Wonder account, there is cross-platform activation for maps between PC, Mac, Linux and Android (using the Humble Bundle store for that last piece). That's why you see all those maps on your profile in the web site. So you would be able to play your maps on any of those devices but your iPhone would still have been left out of that bundle.

You already told me that you owned the Pocket version for iOS but like we've said from the time we launched the update, users will need to update (unlock) the full version from their USA Pocket version if they want the features that came with the latest update. You'll only have to pay the difference in the cost between the Pocket and full version, so I'm not sure why you're seeing the full $6.99 cost. We can look into that further if you're interested and a screen shot of your situation would really help the tech team pinpoint how to help you.

Unfortunately, we can't side-grade the Europe Pocket version and Swiss map because Apple doesn't allow that. We can't give a free update from a different app and since Europe Pocket was a different app we aren't allowed to give the upgrade. However, because we knew that would be an issue we have a sale of all IAP maps for the iOS. You can get every map for your full version for just $4.99, the full cost of the India map when it isn't on sale.

I don't know the ins and outs of different companies and how they might have worked around the rules set out by Apple and Google Play, but we are following the rules given to us. The Humble Bundle will be getting the update at a later date and then you'll have access to all of your content through that package.
