New update is very poor experience Wed, 19 December 2018 21:04
Please revert to previous game features. The 'hand held cards, car by car play, and an announcement that my tickets have been completed is utterly annoying. In addition I am not able to play local games. Congratulations for destroying this game for me. How can this be undone?

What a disaster! From a smooth, good-looking game to boards that look like a demo; slower gameplay; and an unhelpful display of cards and player info. Not an improvement in any way.

When will you guys learn? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I can't draw new cards after I complete the first batch of routes... Don't like the display of cards or route graphics.

I can’t play this game with the update anymore. It is immensely irritating - from the “hand held” cards, to the speed of the game, the speed in which the trains are laid out on the tracks, the “instructions” throughout. This update has ruined the game for me and I can no longer play it. I can’t play a game that now irritates me. I’m mostly irritated that I paid money for this game and your update has made it impossible to play.

Please revert to the old graphics. The new version has aspects that are very hard to see, the route cards seem smaller. I also don't like the hand held card graphics. The game also seems to move slower. Please go back to the old look.

New graphics are just AWFUL. I have been playing for years, but am afraid I will soon stop. Game play is counter intuitive, ugly, cheap looking, diffucult to navigate. Why in the world would you ruin this great game? Must have something to do with $$.

All of the above. The supposed improvements are a literal train wreck.

Doesn’t the developer know there is a speedy setting precisely to turn the flabby appearances-for-appearances sake graphics off!!

Was there no budget for testing? No beta feedback from people who actually play the game?

I am not hopeful or a fast response on this but perhaps when usage tanks and sales disappoint, something will happen,

What is I that you don’t understand about game players? Speed is everything. Your new enhancements detract from the game immensely. Go back to old grahpics. Also why do we have we to watch the opponents pick their cards. Obviously a great game you continue to make unplayable.

I agree, please go back to the previous game features. The bottom of the board gets obscured by the train cards, which take up way too much room.

New update is horrible!

I’ve played over 1400 games of T2R digital on iOS since the app was first released. This is the worst version so far!

The bigger cards are an eyesore, and distracting. Not nearly as clean and useful as the old style.

The animation for taking a track is much slower, painfully so.

The pop ups telling me things like I’ve completed all my tickets are fine in a tutorial, but just annoying and slow down the game.

Why have the train colors been tweaked? I just find changes for change sake annoying and distracting.

I see the ad for the New France map. I was going to buy it, as I have all the others, but after playing our usual game tonight (mega 1910), the poor experience has made me decide not to give you any further money.

Please return the graphics and speed to what we regular customers want rather than make these pointless, disruptive changes. I may need to find a new daily game instead of our favorite T2R.

I agree with the other feedback here - why force us to watch animations and click buttons when we have speed mode set? I already found the fact that we have to tap to avoid the route completion animation annoying and now there's a card-by-card animation for playing trains? And a new, slower dealing animation?

A couple of other problems I am having that I haven't seen specifically mentioned:

The hand held card display is making it much harder to play trains without accidentally triggering the swipe up functions on my iPhone. I end up looking at that four or five times a game.

When you are selecting new route cards you can see the next player getting ready to play trains.

As the last turn is played, the game pauses for a time that is long enough to make it feel like the whole thing has frozen and is going to crash. Maybe 10 seconds or so? This is on an iPhone 6s, so not super new phone but not terribly old and decrepit either.

Seems to me that the game in general has been slowed down. The end game pause - for dramatic effect (???) - is probably intended. Happens on my iPad Pro as well.

This app now feels very slow on my iPad Pro. The previous version was very snappy. Some of this has been intentionally added, like when claiming track. I have no idea why the designers wanted to show each train car card, one after each other, then lay the train pieces one after the other and then count the scores by +0, +1, +2, +4, +7 etc. If I am claiming a piece of track of 5 car lengths just lay all the train pieces at once and display +15.

I hate the new display of the cards in your hand. It covers the map and does not add any value. And they keep on moving, which is distracting.

The app seems to freeze at times. I have even seen it freeze mid transition where I can see the before and after at the same time.

The notification you receive when completing all your tickets seems to be a bug. I should not see that if I have played the game many times. The text display (English) doesn't even make sense to me.

The app is unusable on my iPhone X. There has been little regard to the layout on these longer devices and no consideration to the bottom area , the notch or the curved corners.

Every day I keep on expecting an update to the app because it seems like this version was released prematurely.

On my iPhone X it is impossible to play since every time I try to use one of my train cards iPhone believes I am swiping up too. Insane... fix this mess

Adding my voice to agree what an awful update, I'm playing on an oldish PC. Issues for me include:
- the super size cards! why? on my machine these actually cover part of the Europe map!
- the flashing message panel on the RHS
- the annoying message - yes i know i've completed all my routes, i don't need to be told twice
- can no longer see oppponents routes at the end of the game
- the new scoring animation

and don't get me started on the new France map this is totally broken- unplayable!

Please revert to previous version

Players have repoted problems with Samsung and iPhone X. But I can’t play the German TYR on my iPhone 6 Plus As Train cards are hidden at bottom of screen. Often as not the phone’s control centre appears when I want to get to them. Old design was more useable.

I have so many problems with this new update! I have an iPhone X and the cards are positioned right where my ‘close app’ bar is! I spend so much time trying to pick the color cards I want to play and battling not to close out of the app!! On vertical games (Germany, Nordic) I can’t even see my cards?!
PLEASE go back to the original format! Otherwise, I will probably have to quit playing.

Some maps, like Germany, are very literally unplayable. I cannot grab train cards to play trains. The notch also blocks part of the controls.

Other landscape maps are technically playable but if you misplace cards while attempting to play trains, then the cards retract down out of reach and you have to either exit the game or do a different action.

Please just revert until you throughly test this app.

I have to agree with the comments here. This is a very poor update with, among other things, the game hanging 2-3 times per game for a few seconds each time.

Agree with comments already made. In addition there are times when I sign in that only pass and play options appear for a bit before filling in screen or I must go out and back again to sign in which also has a delay in progress.
Out of app using others on my device I will get prompt that I was sent an invite to play, but in the lobby between games I did not see any prompts on dec21, was necessary to be asked in lobby chat to join the game that was waiting in the resume folder to join.
Today dec22, I noticed a player on in my buddy list with a new player name, (perhaps was changed) but the old player name was listed in the players tab. I tapped both to double check and information the same on each player name.
Another oddity with update. I have had a game crash after final scoring, it was no bot replacement game but I was able to rejoin the game after reopening app and rejoin through the resume tab even though opponent had left and moved on.

Horrible.

Apprenez le B.A. BA du développement informatique, le test et la qualification. L’équipe de développeurs est en dessous de tout.

Qui plus est je crois avoir trouvé un nouveau bug concernant l’horloge, à savoir que le temps pris au départ pour la sélection des tickets est retiré du joueur qui a créé le jeu !

I cant even claim some tracks, e.g. Lugano to Italy because they are too close to bottom of screen. I have almost 5000 plays. The game has been slowed down so much, I can’t see ever getting to 5000 now. It would take so much longer. Honestly, I can’t see any feature in the update that is an improvement. I feel lkke, overnight, someone reverted to a 5-year old version and wiped out a ton of helpful UX changes to the interface. The game is so much harder and frustrating to play than it was days ago.

Amen. Love the game but hate the update,

Really really hate the cash register sounds.

The extra animation feels like a superfluous waste of system resources.

I find Germany unplayable also, on my android phone. The train cards are just peeking above the bottom of the screen, out of reach.. Other comments such as the one about the Lugano-Italy route, well,I have no trouble. To be honest claiming routes at the edge of the screen has always been tricky for most of the maps.
Personally I like the new graphics, although the slower pace is tiresome

UPDATE the Germany problem is resolved, and the ability to change the speed of play really helps. Sadly, I still have no France map on Steam or android tablet. But I've found a possible clue as to why this all may have happened thanks to Yann's speculations. I'll work ov er the n ext few days on figuring out if there's anything I can do about it.

Yeah, I find something distantly relat ed with the France expansion: if there is no track piece available in a certain colour of a certain length, the game hangs and finishes uncompleted. Makes it kind of pointless to play if there are no winners.

But this new version has no monopoly on freezing. Often I've found India will freeze, highlighting a certain route that I never did pick. As long as I play and ignore the dimmed screen and the extra route highlighted, it's an annoyance rather than a dealbreaker

Still immensely enjoyable to me

Now I've got a T2R problem that really bugs me. The more complex graphics in this new update that slow down the game, the new screen messages, the problems with the Germany map, I can live with those.

But I just bought France expansion for my tablet. Problem is, I bought it through my android phone which already had the update everyone's annoyed about. So when I went to update my tablet and access the France map, the app crashed before opening.

I figured out that the new update is not compatible with some android systems including my tablet. (I never read this anywhere; you have to learn it by trial-and-error.) So my purchase was a bit of a waste of money. I retrograded the tablet back to the prior version of Ticket to Ride and it worked fine again, except you can't buy France on it (even though I have paid for France, can play it on my android phone and on Steam, all using the same account number as the tablet uses.)

Where are the System Requirements listed for each expansion purchase that this company is selling? How do you know if you're wasting your money?

Not very happy about this.

Hmm, the Germany map is barely playable... When I pick my tickets, if I try to take any other combinations other than 2 long and 2 short, the game crashes.

I'd be glad if that would be fixed.

Same problems here. The thing that I find most aggravating is that the game is now pretty much unplayable in the local mode. When one player starts a new game the other players are told that there is no network available. Trust me, it's not a local network issue. Everything was working just fine until the new version was pushed out to us.
I can live with the uglier graphics and such if I have to, but please give me back my ability to play local games.

Hello everyone,

All the changes made about the animations and extra dialogs were intended to help beginners to understand the game mechanics better - and also renew a little bit the game feel. Obviously we were grossly mistaken in our approach in regards with veteran players, as shown by the comments in this thread.

We are sorry about this and we are working hard to correct the situation. As always with software, this is a tedious and complicated process, which is going to take several updates, so please bear with us during the next few weeks.

In the meantime, there is a little something you can do to make the game more snappy: activate the "fast mode". It seems many people have a hard time to find it, so below is a little guide to help you.

We thank you for your patience and your understanding, and we hope you will still have good reasons to love Ticket to Ride as much as we do in the very near future.

All my expansion boards are now gone. Did the update have something to do with this? I still have the Google play receipts showing that I bought them - how do I get them back?

Thanks for the response Yann. Glad to hear that a course correction is in the works.

I found the new update on Steam to be such a terrible experience that I reverted to the previous version. (You can do that in Steam.) I've also prevented my Android phone from downloading any recent TTR updates. Otherwise I was simply going to have to give up playing TTR.

The simplest way to deal with things like the new "you have completed your tickets" alert which is so irritating to veteran players, is to add a setup option that controls them. It's fine to have them on by default for new players if the rest of us are able to turn them off.

IMPORTANT, in addition to the problems noted in this thread I hope your team is focused on the following:

(a) The game-timer bug which already existed and which the latest update did not fix. It seems to exist on all platforms not just Steam, and began occurring sometime during 2018.

(b) A new Steam display problem that was introduced by this update in which the left side of the game screen flashes randomly. It's just unbearable.
