Is this answer legal? Mon, 10 October 2005 21:44
We just played a third round of Mystery of the Abbey and I thought I'd try to be a bit sly when asked a question. Someone asked me 'how many thin monks have you eliminated?' and I answered 'more than fat ones'. None of the other players accepted this answer and demanded me to say a number, stating that my answer was not a proper (and misleading) answer. And since it was 4 against 1 I gave in, but I really would like to if this is an acceptable anwer.

Your answer was not legal; you're supposed to be as correct and informative as possible, i.e. as a rule of thumb, really answer the question and don't try to find ways to "sort of" answer.

another question about this matter.

is it legal to ask for other things about the suspects than the charistics mentioned on the suspect-cards.
like, can I ask how many suspects the player helds in his hand where the first letter of the name is a 'B' ?

The rules say you can ask anything, as long as the answer is not a name. Though, I'm not sure about this tho, as you even can ask if they cross their arms, if he is bals, if he looks angry or even further: does he have a large beard, does he looks silly etc... because he might not seem silly for one player, but he does for you for example. Same goes for the beard

Hope someone can clear things up Smile

Thanks

The rules are correct!
You can ask about anything - as long as it doesn't require the answer to be a named character.

So yes, you can ask about all of the above.

However, it is a waste of time asking about subjective matters like "does he look silly?" as you cannot be sure that the other other player share your view.
