Very good question, I would like to buy them also. As in a room where the light isn't bright enough. It is hard to distinguish the blue from the green helmets.

Look at the pattern on the helmets - I'm RG colorblind and had problems until I figured out that the face grill on each color helmet is unique.

I still can't tell the red from the green standards in the scenario book Sad

What you have is the "2nd edition" dice. The grills in the face mask are what was added to make them more color-blind friendly.

For those of us with the 1st print of the game, the icons were exactly the same - just the color different. AS mentioned, even for those of that cvan distinguish R_G, the B-G is still hard to see in less than ideal lighting conditions.

And thus my inquiry - was hoping to hear something by now but I suspect there is no way of ordering them seperately. I hope there will be a way to do so soon, since the only way is to buy a $70 game. And even then, there is no way to ascertain from the outside of the box either.

But if you buy a game that does not start with BL10, won't it have the newer dice? And if you buy a BL10 you qualify to order them for free, correct?

The "free" dice were replacements to the ones that were wearing down to quickly. These replacement dice still had the same icons on them. Basically, there are at least 3 versions of the dice out there. You could ask for version 2 if you were sent version 1. But I am not sure that you can ask for version 3 if you started with either version 1 or 2.

And as Caboose pointed out, there is no way to tell what version you have if the box is sealed. The BL-- number is inside the book on the scenario booklet.

Correct Colt - obviously once you bought it, you would know, but not beforehand (i.e outside markings of the box).

And so far, I have emailed DoW w/o any reply back either. Since it really is the one thing that is in the base BL that I thought that maybe they would sell seperately (just like the M44 base deck).

Could you (gasp) use a permanent magic marker to make the red or green sides??

The dice I got were the newer ones and they started fading after about twenty games or so. I ended up painting mine using citadel paints and then sprayed them with two coats of "purity seal". It worked great.

If you don't want to mark up your original dice, you could always order a set of blank dice and use a permanent marker and simply write red, green, blue, bonus, lore, and flag.

This issue has come up both here and over on BGG. A good suggestion was made there (as I don't see it here). Since Red, Green, and Blue all have the same "hit" ratio, you can count only RED as hits against ANY unit. BLUES and GREENS will be a MISS against any unit. (Of course, this suggestion only applies to those of us who are not RG color-blind).

When the color fo the die matters (such as in BattleLore), you just go back to the regular way of rolling and will have to be more thorough in your examination of the results.

But in this way, battles could be quickly determined and no marking of the dice if you are apprehensive about that sort of thing.

This whole thing is such a silly oversight.

How many of us would gladly pay for some "deluxe" BattleLore dice? Wooden, engraved, recessed faces, nice heft -- whatever. Real works of art, and built to last. How many of us would also want those kinda dice for M44? Heck, why not challenge some artist to do some deluxe dice that cover the entire C&C system?

Oh, and I really dis-like the idea of just using one color as a "hit". As others have observed, part of the brilliance of the C&C dice is the "fun" of realizing you just rolled a devastating attack -- but on the wrong color! Or, conversely, it seems "luckier" when you need reds and manage to roll 3 at once.

My BL was supposedly the latter edition dice -- but those quickly started wearing. The replacements were the older non-colorblind style...which I've not used yet but I have no illusions about their longevity.

So, c'mon, DoW -- make it happen, either sell them direct, or in stores as promotion, or as part of an upcoming expansion, or all the above.

Especially when prior to the attack you had just decided to attack the blue cavalry instead of the red infantry and you roll 4 reds. D'oh!

Well I think DoW is still on their "retreat" till this weekend, but I'm hoping that they will have the ability to order them online, since I think that would make the most sense. Since if you need more of them, I don't think packing them inside an expansion would be the way to go (it would be nice but not if you need a replacement).

In the very early days of BattleLore - the question of "deluxe dice" was asked.

And there's a reply somewhere, by Eric, that it was something that they MIGHT do at a latter stage.

I'll see if I can dog out a link - but there is a guy on BGG who is taking pre-orders for BattleLore Dice and will make a set of engraved / etched dice when the order level is high enough.

Don't hold your breath. We've been asking for Memoir replacement dice for a while (since the game has been out a lot longer).

One of the few things Hasbro did right was to allow purchase of nearly all the parts to most of their games. I wish DOW would set this up across the board as well.

Granted M44 has been out longer than BL, but also don't forget that BL now has two different versions of dice. And thus it sure would be nice for BOTH games to get replacement dice.

I agree that replacement parts would be nice to order but hopefully it will be done by verifying the person has a copy of that game as well (vs buying the game via piecemeal)

Who cares that a person has the base game or not? It seems like a lot of unnecessary busy work. Hasbro never verified that I owned the game when I bought extra pieces for Axis & Allies games.

And while the prices were cheap to make it advantageous to replace or get spare parts, they were also priced in such a way that if you tried to piecemeal the entire game, it was cost-prohibitive. Buying a complete game through standard outlets should always be the least expensive route to go.

And since most people who make their own game of the C&C system do so by making a larger board, their own terrain, and purchasing their own minis, the only thing they really need is the deck of cards. If that was a concern of DOW, then they wouldn't have posted the M44 deck for sale.
