  P-38 airpack question Fri, 15 February 2008 20:18
Just wondering... why is the P-38 White? I was under the assumption that they were either Olive Drab, or silver... right? Were they ever white?? I don't recall any. So... why did DOW use white? The ME109 is gray which is closer to silver than white... I am not complaining, just wondering. Confused

There is at least one display aircraft in white, but I am not aware of any that were white during the war

Yes, I remember there was a white P-38 and it had red and blue accents that used to do the "airshow" circuit. It was called White Lightnin'.

However, I don't think it represented the "majority" of P-38s.

The majority I remember seeing were mainly unpainted (except for nose art and some decals). So it should have been silver.

Yes, as much as I would like to have seen it in silver, OR olive drab, I am going to leave mine as a white P-38.
