Question about score calculations.... Wed, 27 February 2008 01:03
Just to start off, I have read the Rank explaination on the site. I'm just trying to get more specific.

So my overall score is 1241/2579 rank. I'm wondering why it's low because I have the following scores/ranks:

2 player: 1483/1173
Multi: 1404/2064
USA: 1426/1817

All established... so I'm just wondering why my overall score is in the 1200's when I have 1400+ ratings in my established game areas. Thanks!

This is true for most folks (pick another established user and check out their ratings.)

The reasons why this is generally so relate, in part, to the fact that the 'overall' ratings were established a long time before the broken out ratings for 2 player, multi and USA. The exact reasons why this would affect the average ratings are complex. Perhaps someone else can find the thread where I believe this was discussed before.

Jeremy

First, everyone started at 1500 in regards to rankings. (A person who never plays get an initial rating of 1500). But you are confusing your overall SCORE to your RANKINGS. You want a LOW Score but HIGH rankings..see?

So you can see where I'm going with this, if you were the 100th person in score, you probably would have rankings in the 1700s or so for those 3 categories.

And if that 2 player rank is correct, there seems to be an issue since the right most # should be higher than the left.

Really? This must be a weird translation issue. Because I would think that you want a HIGH score and LOW rank. The person who is ranked #1 should be the best... or else you don't know how many people there are if you're ranked 3000+.

So people who ask to have 1400+ games are better people or worse? Because I thought to get up to 1400 score is hard no?

Okay, I found the essay on rank and score.

So the point is that you want a HIGH score, which will lead to a lower rank.

Thanks everyone who replied! I'm still new, but I hope one day I can get to 1700+ haha

To answer your last item, every time you win you go up in ranking. Thus if you started out at 1500 and won, you probably move up to like 1540 or so (Note : the first 20 or so games I do believe, the rankings move up a lot more than rest, due to the fact that these are your first few games played).

Thus for people asking for 1400+ games are basically asking for a person with average ranking (since like I stated above, everyone starts out at 1500). And usually people above 1700+ are players who play pretty good (for most that is).
