dice still bleeding Mon, 21 July 2008 14:26
can i just say that my dice are still bleeding. my battlelore code says they're not supposed to, but my faded dice say otherwise.

of course i live in the philippines, so there's little hope i can get replacement dice -- oh snap, i cant get replacement dice, i got the dice that arent supposed to bleed anymore.

at any rate, battlelore is amazing, looooots of fun. i play with my brother a lot and it's the most fun we've had in a long time. had 4 friends over yesterday and we played a 6 person epic battle (with memoir44 style rolling a dice for initiative variant) and it was an incredible experience.

i love this game

sorry to ruin your hopes, but even if the replacement dice are better than the originals, they are still bleeding after "intense" use...

these are my dice, after 50+ epic games. Even if it is still OK to play with it, it is a little disappointing.

oh. well that makes me feel just a little bit better then, at least im not the only one with dice still bleeding. i thought i got a bad set of dice with my battlelore.

i noticed that the lore, green and blue tend to go first. my SoS, flag and red are still pretty.

Ditto, except that I have played much fewer times. I've finally resorted to using my replacement dice and after about 2 or 3 games I can already notice the color fading. My friend's copy of BattleLore has dice that appear more "plastic" on the surface (though they are still made of wood) and they seem to hold up MUCH better. I don't know why his are different or why the replacement dice weren't made like his.

Hmm, maybe I should coat my dice in something. Maybe a spray on gloss finish that one would use on painted figures?

That's what I did. As soon as my replacement dice started bleeding, I did a few touch-ups to have them look like new, then I used two coats of Citadel's 'Purity Seal'; that's the non-gloss finish. I can't really brag that they stood the test of time yet though, as I've only played a total of roughly 40 games since they were coated, but so far so good.

Hope this helps

hmmm. im thinking of doing the same thing. but how do i touch them up? some of them are really messed up already. Sad

need to find spray to protect the dice. i tried nail polish the other day, and when i dabbed a little on the dice, the paint actually started to come off. sad.

I did touch ups again using citadel paints; blood red, enchanted blue, and snot green for the banner colors, fiery orange for the sword-on-shield, liche purple for the lore symbol, and of course chaos black for the retreat flag. I used a 00 tip paintbrush for the actual work. Then, as mentionned before, two coats of ''Purity seal''. Of course, if you just got your dice, might as well coat them at the first sign of bleeding and avoid the touch-ups altogether. I'd gladly post a picture of the completed work, but they basically look like ordinary battlelore dice, so it's a bit pointless.

Hi BL ppl,

I am barely on my 6th game (maybe 7th) and my dice are noticeably fading, dot by dot. They're perfectly fine for gaming, but seeing my BL bits getting damaged sucks. I have a few cards and rule book starting to see some wear on the edges too, no idea what to do about that.

Anyway, I've had it, I am going to get custom dice made. If anyone else is interested or have had experience with this company, please let us know. Would be nice to hear some advice/opinions about it. I've sent a pdf of the dice faces (from BGG files) and asked for a quote.

Here is their website.

to be honest, i've sorta given up on the dice. i dont think they're getting any worse, anyway, or at least i dont notice anymore. i dunno how to repair it, i'm terrible with a paint brush (i only ever got a B- in my art classes).

if they get completely wiped away, i'll print out dice faces on stickers and use that.

i'll wait for the deluxe metal dice eric was talking about mooooonths ago. hihi. maybe they'll release that with the heroes expansion. probably not though. one can dream.
