TTR Card Game - Game End Thu, 04 September 2008 02:05
Hi All - first post to the forum. I have all the TTR board games and just got the card game. Played 2 player for the first time yesterday and have the following question.

Why would you pick up the last cards in the deck and end the game?

Once you have done so you get one more turn, but you can't get any of the cards you just picked up into your on-track stack so they cannot be used to complete tickets. So unless you already have all the cards needed in your on-track stack your pick up from the deck to end the game is only useful to end the game.

Is this correct?

It does make sense to me that drawing the last 2 cards is only useful for ending the game, though you couldn't go on forever just playing train cards (you would run out) and taking new tickets (you wouldn't be able to complete them). In most cases, drawing is the only option, though it can be used strategically to end the game before the other person is ready if you would be losing a small amount of points.

I hope that made sense!

Hi Zasdert

Yes that makes sense and is as I thought. It seems a shame that if you need the last 2 cards to complete tickets, there is no way that you can use them. But to end the game and catch people out when they have not completed tickets is a good thing in itself. I realise that you cannot continue for long without having to pick up the last cards, but you can get rid of those in hand to your rail yard and then to your on-track stack for as long as you can if you've not completed enough tickets.

Also don't forget that in a 4 player game, you do go through the deck twice. And when you go through the deck the 1st time, you do get to find out which tickets you haven't completed yet at that time. Thus even though "ending the game" the first time through, isn't that bad (except for allowing maybe some people to not get all their cards into their railyard), it does allow everyone to know where they stand at that point. And thus know what they will need to get finish tickets.
