I'm sure this has been posted before but I can't find it.

I was trying to upload an avatar, but I was told it was too big, over the 10000 byte limit. It was within the 100 x 100 dimensions (mine was 100 x 63). As far as my research goes, 10000 bytes is about 10 Kilobytes, extremely small. I've tried and tried, but I can't seem to get the file that small without destroying the quality. The lowest I can get it without it looking distorted 60 KB!!! 6 times what I need! I've tried using both jpg. and png. files, and they don't help!

Can someone help me? Am I doing something wrong??

Have you tried bitmap image (*.bmp) format ? I have one in that format, and similiar one in jpeg. Sadly i don't remember which format I had to use here.

My bitmap image was 18K whereas the jpeg image is only 3k in size.

Hope that helps

If you have Photoshop, you can "convert to web" which takes away all the information that can increase the size of the file - and just leaves the picture.

Send it to me and I can try to convert it for you. You can send a larger file if you have one and I will shrink it to the DOW requirements and try to get the file size small enough.
