On the Subject of New Units... Mon, 02 August 2010 06:04
Now that we know new units are going to be arriving in Sept/Oct hopefully... How long until we see all the scenarios revised to include one or both of the new units?

I imagine this will cause the scenarios in the AirPack book to become mostly obsolete as most anytime infantry is involved there were likely jeeps or halftracks.

Thoughts anyone?

Maybe just make a list here , where you think on wich scenarios they could be used.

Hmm, interesting idea. I don't think we'll ever see all of the scenarios reworked to remove normal (or elite) Infantry units and replace them with Jeeps and Half-Tracks.

While it's true that most Infantry units involved Jeeps and Half-Tracks, they didn't often fight from the vehicles but rather used them for simple transportation. There were only specific times when the two new vehicles were used as combat vehicles and I would assume that the new scenarios in this expansion includes several of those times. Smile

You could probably substitute the Jeeps and Half-Tracks for Infantry units in a few scenarios, but they are very different units with different rules, so it won't be a simple question of retrofitting them...I believe. Cool

I'd be very surprised to see that level of retrofitting.

It would probably be easier to have each player roll a few dice before a scenario commences.

Each star gets a halftrack and each grenade gets a jeep... or something to this effect.

You can always use the Jeeps and Half-tracks as markers for elite units, replacing one infantry with the new figure.

Yes, that is the way I play, each elite troop becomes a half-track and 3 infantery figures because their mobility is greather than a normal infantery unit.

I do this only for the esthetic of the game.

With the new figures and scenario's I still will do so but if playing an official scenario with jeeps and half-tracks I'll use the new rules

I have a bunch of halftracks from Tide Of Iron I got off ebay, that I use as markers like that.

During my recent holiday in Brittany I played a few base games involving the French Resistance. One (Mont Mouchet) includes German armour. It occured to me that using the new half-track models (not necessarily the rules) instead of the panzers might better visually represent the 'light' armour used on secondary / anti-partisan fronts. In the case of Mont Mouchet I will use 3 half-tracks and 1 panzer for each of the elite units.

So do I (but I bought the whole game)! I'll still buy the expansion, because I don't have jeeps and I'm eager to try the new scenarios! Very Happy
