Winter wars winter combat cards Tue, 28 December 2010 17:36
I heard that these are the 20 cards in the new deck.

1 x CAMOUFLAGE
1 x REINFORCEMENTS
2 x FROZEN GROUND
2 x HEAT of BATTLE
2 x OUT of FUEL
1 x AMBUSCADE
1 x PULL BACK
2 x OUT of AMMO
1 x INFILTRATORS
1 x STREET FIGHT
1 x REPOSITION
2 x FORTIFY
1 x SPOTTER
2 x WINTER FOREST

I haven't got the expansion yet.

I'd like to know the effects of these cards

-FROZEN GROUND
-OUT OF FUEL
-STREET FIGHT

and what of the 20 cards have the bitter resistance options
Many thanks

Frozen ground - ordered units (upto 3?) can move an extra hex
Out of fuel - play when opponent is moving a vehicle. Vehicle is returned to starting hex, cannot move this turn.
Street fight - one unit assaulting on/close to a town hex fights with one extra die this turn.

I think that's about right. I'm currently at my in-laws and without Memoir Sad so can't be 100% sure of the wording.

The following cards may be used as Bitter Resistance:

REINFORCEMENTS
HEAT of BATTLE
OUT of FUEL
INFILTRATORS
STREET FIGHT
REPOSITION
SPOTTER
WINTER FOREST

Here are the rules and text for the following cards:

FROZEN GROUND
- Up to 3 ordered units may move 1 hex more than their normal movement this turn.
- Units may battle if eligible.
-Terrain movement and battle restrictions still apply

OUT OF FUEL
Play this card when your opponent is moving a unit. The unit is returned to the hex it was on at the start of the turn.
-One enemy vehicle unit runs out of fuel.
-The unit may not move or battle this turn

STREET FIGHT
-One ordered INFANTRY or ARMOR unit on or next to a Building hex may Close Assault with 1 additional die.
- Other movement and battle restrictions still apply.

Finally got my WW pack a few days back (bit of a mixup by the postal service) and took a gander at the cards. As with the urban combat cards from Sword of Stalingrad, I like these a lot and think they're a great optional enhancement to the game.

Clearly Sword of Stalingrad was an experiment that worked out well enough to get blown into a full-fledged expansion albeit with a different theme. I expect we may see similar 'themed' expansions in the future.

(Might we speculate that a full urban combat expansion could happen?)

You're under the impression that the Urban Combat cards were an experiment... Rolling Eyes I think they were part of a larger plan to add a new element to Memoir '44!! Cool

I think Days of Wonder and Richard Borg have well established plans for where this game is going and the plans apear to be moving along nicely from the fan point of view. I think there is very little 'experimentation' in their plans at this point in the system...instead I think there are a lot of calculated plans! Smile

No doubt about it Rasmussin! I'll say again that this game quickly grew on me, and the overwhelming support from DOW and all of you make it a pleasure to break the game out repeatedly.

If my wife loves to play (and continually asks when the next game islol) thats a GREAT thing.

Keep up the great work everyone!
