list of players to avoid Tue, 18 January 2011 02:22
Is there a list, people keeping track of who to avoid.

#1 RAMBOWOLF - invited me to game - 1/17 at 7:45pm EST....after I was up 3 medals to 1, says "stop playing so hard" and leaves.

#2 anyone with username of player##### I have played a few of them, and left in middle of game.

I have played many excellent battles against players with the player##### name. I would not recommend avoiding them based solely on their name.

In fact I don't recommend having a public list of players to avoid.
No disrespect intended but we only have your word about these players.

Add players you like to your buddy list, add others to your own ignore list and please don't name and shame here.

I have to agree with Phread and suggest that we not start a 'black list' of players. I realize that some players may be really frustrating and we might want nothing more than to warn others so they don't have to experience the same frustration we did, but I don't like the idea of this forum turning into a list of complaints and bad-mouthing about specific people.

Just add the player to your ignore list and move on. Cool

I personally don't like to make a black-list - but it would be nice if you could rate your opponent after a game (as an option).
I don't know how the honor system works now, but it would be great if it was in the hands of the players. I don't like the "enemy" buttom, it makes it impossible for someone to redeem themselves.

And by the way: some of the Player##### players are nice people. I even know of a few kids playing with the Player##### username. I've suggested they don't give out any personal info while playing since they are not that old.

I hope a ranking system isn't created to rate other players because it would be too easy to 'rate' a player as frustrating or evil simply because they are good and whooped-up on another player!

The honor system is only based on if players complete battles. High honor for lots of battles played all the way through and low honor if they quit a lot. Crashes don't count toward honor.

The Enemy button is a good private way to ignore a player that was frustrating to you without having to make it public. I think that any form of public shaming is bad and should be avoided whenever possible!! Cool

I would suggest that DOW nix this post immediately as I feel that no one should have their honor impuned publicly.

And david5272, please post an email to your opponent alone and see if you can sort things out. It is the honorable thing to do. If you aren't sure how to do that, I will post you to assist.

I think that everybody has to decide against who he/she wants to play. Don't make a public list of "Players to avoid".
Imagine that someone else did this and you find your name on that list ... ...

I agree that this is not the place for such a list. While I have been tempted a time or two after an aggravating experience, I keep my list on my desk.

A list on your desk works fine...but you can also add them to your 'Ignore' list within Memoir '44 Online so you'll be reminded that you don't want to play against that person again.

And if you don't think it's fair to just ignore players forever after a bad experience, you can also delete the names from your ignore list every so often to give people another chance! Cool

I think everyone would agree that private choices would be better than public shaming. In the future, let's continue to politely remind people that we (in this forum community) don't support the public naming of players that happens on the Ticket to Ride forum sometimes. Cool

I am not certain how the ignore function works exactly. Do they still appear, but with the icon, or are they invisible to me. Am I invisible to them? Plus, with my notepad I can make some notes about the incident. Once, I sent a private message to someone on this board that disappeared after they agreed to a return game, (only to find they had a real life issues that popped up) and got not only the return game, and a new person on my buddy list.

I'm not entirely sure...you could run some field tests with a friend to see how the system works! Cool

I believe when you choose to 'Ignore' someone they are invisible to you and you are also invisible to them (so they can't invite you to a battle). But it would be worth testing because I'm not positive about that.

I can tell you that people who are on your IGNORE list will still show up in the Memoir 44 Online lobby.

They will have the Little Green Devil with horns icon next to their name, just as your Buddies have a little image of theThree Green Guys standing together.

Now the question is do they see you if you are online??? I don't know because I don't know if I am on somebody's ignore list and they haven't written me to say "Hey I'm ignoring you, but I haven't seen your name online recently!!"

So maybe the DOW folks will let you know. It might actually be in the Online FAQ.

That's right...I do remember seeing that symbol online. I remember trying to figure out why I had chosen to ignore the player and then realizing that it was a carry-over from a bad experience on Ticket to Ride Online...but I gave him a chance on Memoir '44 Online and didn't regret it. He was very polite and we had a good time...which just goes to show that some people deserve a second chance! Very Happy
