Grats to ommie!
Snake - my start, kept 3 ticks and opted for a 45 route ... too slow ... ommie thought I would have made mine and drew ... missed ... and won anyhow
5 Ticks - sacrificed Kan-Hou for longest, ommie thought I would have made my ticks and drew ... missed ... and won anyhow
8+ - ommie drew ... missed ... but this time I had made all my ticks
draw open - played for fast finish with Van-Mon (NY-Atl) - ommie didn't believe in drawing any more ... so I won
5/6 - ommie had to draw for penalty (maybe I shouldn't have called it ) ... well, luck evens out ... this time she found 2 good ticks
Thx for the FUN, Dom + all opponents - would have loved to enjoy it a little bit longer

Sysy and Ommie Devils have an Operation to complete :
Cleaning the Austrian Bug !
Luc vs Sysy : 2-3
96-119* : Win hous - SSm Oak. Good colours for me and killed Luc's Dul Paso
*110-117 : Mon Atl, Mon No, Chi Fe, La NY, Dul Paso. Thought I was toasted with those tix but Luc didn't complete 2 of them. And still wondering how i could have made mine
71-112* (8+ nono) : SSM Nash Mon ATL : I was calling the colours by their name and they were coming. 6 grey, orange, pink, 5 blacks 4 yellow... 84 in tracks was pretty cool
*108-77 (draw open) : started LA CHI LA NY. Decided to draw for fun fiending, found sea ny.. But Luc had 5 red in reserve like me grrr
*97-91 : CAL phoe POrt Nash - SF ATL. Luc started badly with 3 la phoenix. Had to take 4 penalty tix to complete my tix. I drew a couple more time and barely lost !
Thx Luc for the games. Need to digest now, then Angel as a dessert !

3 weird games, 2 starts for me and better tix, fitting colors (even more after his 1st turn in game 1 caused me big trouble)...just more luck on my side (onyx drew 5 times in 8+nomore with many tix on/near his route and only found one in his last turn)
Thx for fair fun and see you around

Well, this "egg" gets to advance!
ommie vs toutoune 3-2
I had 9 locos in snake, big tix in draw open, and drew la mia last minute in no5/6 for the win. Desole, tt!
So we have an Austrian, a Frenchie, a Dutchie and an American remaining. More fun!

...even though I did not find any big tic on/at my route during the penalty draws (no LA-Mia, Adrian blocked NY, so I refused LA-NY) and even though I only fulfilled my 3 initial tix (SF-Atl, Win-Hou, Dul-Hou) + Tor-Mia (47 points - unfulfilled penalty draws: Por-Pho, Kan-Hou, Den-Paso, Cal-SLC, Hel-LA, Mon-Atl, Bos-Mia = a 56 point discount --> sum of -9 points in tix vs 23 for LA-Chi+Chi-NO for Adrian) I won due to the speed of playing big ones (Adrian started, 12 turns on the map for me to end the game, 16 including the 4 penalty draws), the points the big routes bring (80 map points vs 49 for Adrian) and the bonus for longest which is hard to get with only playing little routes.
I conclude (after playing the same style vs blubes in RR where I was forced to after I was blocked with his first track) that playing tactics of breaking the rules in no5/6 against an opp who follows the rules give you a big advantage respectively a very high chance to win the game even though you don't find many tix (which is not the case very often, I guess - I played a track with not that many tix on and only found one out of 3 possible...other tracks including northern and western cities have a better probability to find something during the penalty draws)
So, do we need to increase the penalty to 3 tix?
I don't think so as both players have the choice to play big routes on purpose and take the advantage of this strategy.
I am curious what the game looks like if both of the players start with the ulterior motive to take 5/6 tracks? Maybe someone is interested to play a best-of-5 to find out?

Grats for reaching the semis, Adrian - snake I won surprisingly as you only had little tix on a route of some biggies, 5-tix-min I lost surprisingly for you had the maximum on your route including 3 20-pointers as I thought 2 moves ahead (start for me and you needing 3 draws to get your initial 5) would be a very big advantage, no chance for me in 8+NM and a big mistake in draw open where I realised at the end you had 3 tix and therefore 13 points more than I guessed, so I was forced to draw for SF-Atl or Win-Lit - by the way only game 3 won by starter ...very funny games, good luck in your next games!

Yes, no 5-6 is a problem in fun games for the players following the rules.
Quote: | playing tactics of breaking the rules in no5/6 against an opp who follows the rules give you a big advantage
|
Even with one single breaking of rules. Because my opponent take time ,playing little sections, and losing wagons and perhaps the longest to block me. And I play a 6er, making lot of points, finishing faster, perhaps having the longest, and probably drawing new tix points.
So, I do that, not as an initial tactical, but if I'm blocked.
A few time ago, I thought it would be better to forbid breaking of rules in no5-6 : but Port, Sea, Van and Cal with a single access is a big problem.
So perhaps we can agree only one breaking of rules by player, or say 2 tixs for first breaking of rules, and 3 for next ones ?
About your game against Adrian, I think you had a lot of luck, drawing little tixs, and I think most of games played like that would be lost.
Quote: | I am curious what the game looks like if both of the players start with the ulterior motive to take 5/6 tracks? Maybe someone is interested to play a best-of-5 to find out?

I think it would be only a game of luck. But we can try if you want.

Semi-final results :
Angel6 1-4 Knockando_
Snake : 94-119*
First, I had the 3 smallest tixs, keeping Den-Elp and KC-Hou, and I immediatly drew Dul-Hou and Dul-Elp, so from a very bad combo, I got a better one... I didn't connect KC but had the longest, and Angel had Sea-NY and a 11 points tixs (Den-Pitt or Dall-NY I think), that he didn't connect.
5 tixs mini : *109-143
I got the longest connecting Dul-Hou, Win-LR, Dul-Elp, Cal-Pho and Van-Sanfe. Angel had 47-10 tix points.
8+no more : 106-101*
SF-Atl and Dal-NY for me vs Port-Nash and LA-NY for Angel.
I did the right thing to have the longest (playing 2 wagons to make him lose 4 for the route), but at the end, I didn't think and count enough, or I would have drew (4 tixs on his route, and 2 that I had, so I could have known exactly his points, and 5 tixs to draw on my route )
Draw open : *109-113
Den-Pitt and Chi-Sanfe for me vs Port-Nash and SSM-OC for Angel.
This time I counted well, draw SSM-Nash, and won the game !
No5no6 : *54-75
Win-LR + SSM-Nash for me. Little tixs, and 6 locos among 30 first cards so I played a blocking game in southest, Angel tried to break the rules by a 6 red after a 4 violet, but he forgot to connect Atl or Ral to Charleston before, so I blocked this 2 roads while he was drawing. I continued to block up to SSM-Tor, and only connect Win-LR. Angel tried to draw at the end, but for another bad tix.
Thanks for the games Angel, And cu in 'normal' games, where it will be harder for me to beat you.

no 5/6 test | I am curious what the game looks like if both of the players start with the ulterior motive to take 5/6 tracks? Maybe someone is interested to play a best-of-5 to find out?
|
First test result: dea wins 3-2
Conclusion: If your opp does not intervene with playing 5/6ers himself, you have an advantage as you have time AND a higher no. of track-points - if your opp changes style the luck factor (do I/does my opp draw tix on/near the route?) increases as Knockando predicted...after all no need to change the penalty as both players are able to change their mind in cases!
...so: BIG FINAL ommie vs Knockando!!! Have fun, both!
...and to our Little Playoff Players: keep having fun, still 3 Quarters missing:

FORZA - THEBEEF 2-3
SNAKE: *95-131
5Tix : 60-45* (a game between friends)
8+ : *108-57
Open draw:105-110* (won with a lucky last draw by me)
No5/6: 84-92* (FORZA won in the spirit, Beef won with rules)
Just sad for you . I left the game in those conditions with Cat_.

BIG FINAL : ommie vs Knockando 4-1
Snake: sea la/la chi vs la mia/chi no/mon no. He had 6 black, but my 4 blue and his dead mon no was a winner for me.
5 tix: la ny/ny atl/tor mia/bos mia/dal ny vs cal pho/cal slc/san atl/win hou/win lr. I found la chi, but he had longest...winner for him.
8+ nono: dul paso/kc hou vs dul hou/win lr/tor mia. i had 6 green, black and orange, he connected through the east. He drew and found mon atl/mon no. I had longest but needed to find tix, drew and found cal pho/den paso...winner for me.
draw open: van mon/den paso vs mon no/bos mia. Very early in the game i played 6 grey, and he played 5 black after only picking 3 blacks. Not a fun surprise for me as I had no pink. Blockfest began, but i made it after using 10 white. Longest and den paso completed = winner for me.
no 5/6: san atl/den paso vs 3 east tix. Started in east to complete my tix, but was blocked la-san fran later on when i mistakenly played la pho first. Drew, found den pit. Knock drew and found something. I got orange and white to get to san fran with 1 train left. Drew with the penalty and found la chi and a dead cal slc. Was enough for the win!
I may not be lucky in multi tourney or NC, but I found some luck with FUN!!! Thx for the games knock, was fun!!!

1st game, I did the mistake of keeping 3 tixs...
2d game, classical 5tixs mini game, hard to know who win before the end.
3rd game, not my better fun game : I always have less 6ers and 5ers than my opponent...Good draw for me with 2 tixs...but the same for ommie after
4rd game : THE BIG mistake : I tried to block in east, and I knew that when it was not possible to finish the block in east, my next move had to be Van-Cal...and I forgot , and lose the game and the match...
5rd game : no very good tixs, 3 draws for 1 dead tix and 3 tixs possible to go to. One little mistake for ommie (but if not, I would have blocked anyway, she would have played 6 black earlier, and drew differents tixs, worst for her I think)
So, 2 big mistakes for me, and a little more luck for ommie who played very well, so she's a very good fun champion. And reaching the final for my first fun tournament suits me...
GRATS OMMIE ! ! !
