Market Garden Overlord Strategy? Sat, 04 June 2011 03:08
My favorite Overlord scenario is Operation Market Garden from the Tigers in the Snow Battle Map. I'm looking forward to playing it again this weekend, but am looking for ways to give the Allies a fighting chance (especially if you're playing with the additional Axis sandbags found in the FAQ).

It seems that on one hand it would be great if the XXX Corps on the Allies' Right had enough time to relieve the forces in the other sections. So I though maybe going on the defensive and pulling in the center and Arnhem sections would buy some time for the XXX to get into the fight.

On the other hand, it seems any delay would cause the Allies to lose command cards and slow down the strategy above and move them further away from their medal objectives.

Any Allied strategies from others who enjoy this scenario?

BTW- I've never seen that lone Tiger make muck of a difference any time I've played this scenario.

Thanks

The Allied forces need to be very aggressive with xxx corp.
Hold back in the center, but on the right take out the Axis infantry units on the left behind your set on.

One of the very best Overlord scenarios to date, have fun!

I think we'd all agree with Richard on that! Very Happy

I always look to quickly occupy Arnhem and then play the Dig In card there. You are going to struggle in the centre but Barrage and Air Power are good cards to play to take out the artillery or clear the town before you consider advancing.

Just wrapped up our games. Axis won both 13-9 and 13- 11.

Very close for the Allies on the 13-11 game. Axis countered TFH and then play a TFH of their own going from being almost out of it to almost winning.

Dug in definitely helped the 1st in Arnhem.

Great games.

Another example of how simply following history / historical tactics works so well with Memoir! Wink

Played very aggressively with the British paratroopers, at the end Allies won, there where just a few German remaining around Arnhem! Very Happy
