Time out? Tue, 22 November 2011 02:07
My wife and I were playing a local game on our iPads. She took the dog out to do his biz and when she came back, there was an announcement that she had quit and I had to quit the game.

She did not quit the game nor did she close the cover of her iPad nor was she gone long enough for her iPad to go to sleep. I did close my iPad however.

Is there a timeout function if it's your turn and you step away for awhile?

This is confirmed

In local play, if one person closes their iPad cover or hits their home buttom during the game, their opponent is announced to have left the game. This has got to be a bug, right? My wife picked her iPad up to bring the game to the table an accidentally hit her home button

It's not just with the iPad. The last 4 games my wife and I have tried to play locally on our iPhone4's (running iOS 5) have timed out. It says one or the other of us has Quit the game......then it gives a server timeout message. Very frustrating!!

Hello,

There is indeed a time-out system implemented in the local play mode.
The connection is also lost if you leave the app (home button) or go into sleep mode.

It"s fine if you play a game with no interruption.

For a next update, we are working on this to improve the situation in case of suspended games.

Well, in my case (two iphone4's) it was not a case of pressing the home button or one of the phones going to sleep. My wife and I were literally sitting next to each other, making rapid moves (very impressive by the way) when the game abruptly ended. This also happens when we play against an iPad2. This happens, I'd say, in 3 out of every 4 games we play. I hope your update comes out soon. Thanks for listening.

My wife and I, like everyone else who owns this game and an iPad/iPhone/iPod, have run into this so many times. I suggest that since games are only locally hosted (iPhone/iPod) there should be no time-out system since to my knowledge time does not factor into the scoring in any way.

We have also found a bug when playing a multi-player wifi/bluetooth game. When joining a game the selected player's character does not display correctly (9 out of 10 times) on ALL of the devices, including the players device. Though the name does carry over to ALL devices. Same thing happens to the color a player has chosen even if the color is still available, it just defaults to the next color inline.

Having the ability to use multitasking has become the very foundation of apps since its implementation, overlooking this is nearsighted and frustrating for the end user.

I've read through most of the post regarding the i-devices and have seen VERY strong analogies to how Carcassonne has gotten it right and Ticket to Ride can improve. I too am an avid Carcassonne player on the tabletop and on my iPhone. I never have fewer then five Carcassonne games going on my iPhone at one time. People are constantly referring to Carcassonne because WE believe that Ticket to Ride IS so, so, so close to being every bit as good and well created in both game play and graphics and UI as Carcassonne but lacks some of the fundamental features.

Having the ability to send a friend request to someone in a different state or country and having a game with them no mater how long it takes (time-out system) is something we all enjoy with Carcassonne. Being able to play a game with my wife, but having the ability to put the game down midway and take care of my kids for an hour with my iPhone in sleep mode and have the game still there when i get back is simply a logical building block that should have been there from the start.

Being a computer tech not a programmer, I understand that I, in fact, don't understand what it takes to bring us, the consumer/user, the features we see as simple, easy and needed. I hope your team of programmers and developers truly take everyone's comparison of Carcassonne to Ticket to Ride not as a threat but as an honor to be considered as good as, and hopefully soon to be better than, them. If you haven't taken a look at the multi-player features of Carcassonne you really need to; they have it right.

Thanks
Dedicated, expectant, but frustrated Fan

I've had the same exact problem: playing with my wife on two iPads, sitting on the same couch, making moves very quickly, BOOM: message saying that she quit the game. She didn't quit, of course, but it ruined our game. There's got to be an easy and quick solution to this. In our case (and in others' cases) it ruins the very useful functionality of a local game (since pass-and-play isn't really viable).

Please fix! We love this game (we have it in every box variation, and now on the iPad).

We have also had this problem of the game deciding one of us has left it while in mid-play. Admittedly, one of us does sometimes take quite a long time to. Ale decisions at times, but neither of us has closed the cover or touched the button when this has happened.

We are playing on our internal WIFI, iPad 1 against iPad 2 using the latest version of the app and it doesn't seem to matter which map, although it has mostly been Europe, which we play most often. I hope this "recipe" helps a bit.
