Battle of the Gazala Line Tue, 03 April 2012 22:46
Hi Everyone,

I've posted a new scenario with both Blitz rules and Hill 317 rules(they both work!). Recon 1 cards now have more "punch". The only regret is I would also have liked to give the Axis 2 dice. At this juncture of the war they would have matched the Allies airpower. I think this is the next best thing to air rules for online purposes. Maybe in a future update DOW can have an option for this. Please give the scenario a try and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Hi LooneyLlama

I just had a G+R at your scenario!
A very pleasant map,well done!

I would like you to consider pleasing less advanced allies units or one less V.P. for them, to tighten up the scenario a little bit Wink

Ty for your time and effort!

Thanks for trying it. Are you talking about moving back the units in the bunkers? All 3? or just one or two? What was your score? Did the Axis win easily? Did you get any Recon 1 cards for the Allies? They could be very devastating. Let me know how the battle played out. Thanks again!

With all due respect, but I believe that your claim that the Free French at Bir Hakeim suffered from "weak morale" is not true to the facts and an insult to the gallant Marie Pierre K½nig and his men.

Hi Eric:

Another great scenario. I really enjoyed playing it. The idea of 2 dice for Air Power for the Axis is a good idea as the Luftwaffe was still potent at this stage of the war. Cool DOW would have to change the programming to achieve this I assume.

The Recon one card is also very formidable here if the Allies receive one. Tough time for the Axis in this scenario.

Looking forward to playing it with you. Very Happy

Hi again

If you intended was to make a historical correct scenario, my suggestions won't help much since they are based on a tight 50/50
scenario.

In other case allow me to suggest some things:

Move back, allies right flank, most front inf.?

Remove Axis art. sandbags?

Allies win at 6 points?

For best feedback i'll post replays, so to check for yourself.
You surely be able to make a better analysis than me,since you're the author Smile

Axis 7 / Allies 3

Axis 7 / Allies 4

I hope i helped.

Keep up the excellent work

First,I apologize to Turbohizer for my disparaging remark about the free French. My information must be incorrect. I will change them to 4 figures.

Amra, thank you for sending me your after action reports. The battles seemed to be closer than the score indicated. In the first game I thought your opponent could have used his recon 1 card on the left flank before attacking. I'm not sure I would attack with 3 unit French units(soon to be 4). In the longer 2nd game, you could have used your recon 1 card to attack 4 units on your opponents left flank, though I'm not sure that would have made a big difference unless you could have followed it up. You also attacked with your French units.
A more conservative strategy may be better there. I'll mull it over and make some changes. Thanks again Amra for your help!

LL, I would like to point out that I had NO objection against the use of the 3-figure resistance units or any other feature of your map. I already played it and had a lot of fun. I just felt that the aforementioned wording of the scenario description could be misleading. Perhaps you could just say that the French units were weak (but not their morale). No offense meant.

On further research the French units did not have low morale. At this stage of the war all Allied units were trying to counter Rommel's surprise flanking manuevers and were discouraged by a lack of leadership.

Anyway, I slightly revamped the scenario. I made the French units 4 figures and placed an oasis in that sector. I also placed the Axis oasis on their baseline and relocated their engineer. This will enable the Axis to pose more of a threat of breaking through on the Allied right flank. I still found the scenario very difficult for the Axis to win. When we played, the Allies always seemed to get a recon 1 card at the most opportune moment(the Axis did win one time when a barrage card was used to blow the inf. unit off hill 317). The Allies should play somewhat cautiously, especially with their armor. The Axis attacks all depended on the cards with a lot of different fluxuations on how the battle progressed.

Please send me any after action reports if you play this scenario. It really helps me in my designs. Thanks.
