To add people to your buddy list, just go through this thread and click the "Add to Buddy List" link that's under the Avatars. This will add everyone to your buddy list so when you go into the game to start "Games with Buddies" you'll have a list of people to pick from.

Hey everyone, just started playing recently, would love to play some ranked games with you all.
Seems really silly that you can only play ranked games against friends... sort of defeats the purpose. After reading their plans for 2.5, those changes can't come soon enough!
