OverThrough??? Tue, 22 April 2014 21:47
Hey just wondering if DoW was considering making anymore of Dday's type game- Overthrough.

What I mean is Overlord maps in a Breakthrough format- basically attaching 2 Breakthrough maps together and playing it like Overlord. Obviously not as grand as the Dday pack, but the essentially and extended Overlord. Probably would need a special deck for that too- a hybrid Overlord/Breakthrough deck.

I enjoy Overlord very much and I hope DoW would make many more Overlords or Breakthroughs or even a new Overthrough collection of maps. Maybe the idea of Overthrough is a a little overlapping and "overkill" for the series, but hey I'm hoping they keep creating great expansions and packs for this game series.

I guess it depends if M44 keeps selling well for the next few years. Has M44 sales slowed down since the SmallWorld series???- this would probably be its biggest rival as far as priority and sales, not to mention Ticket to Ride.

DOW doesn't announce their plans in advance.

When we played an OverThrough scenario at WBC last summer, we used the BT deck (so we could have On The Move and the special BT Medics rule), with the OL rules, too. That worked great.

I really appreciate the fact that DOW keeps coming out with new, interesting extensions of the Memoir line, even 10 years in. Plus, the community of players keeps the game fresh with more unofficial scenarios than I'll ever have time to play. Very Happy It's a great game, even if its sales may not be as big as TTR or Small World.

I have made multiple overthrough maps in the past years. I call them breaklord scenario's. My first breaklord was the first in memoir history and is called the bastogne corridor. You can check these on my user page or search the scenario's on my name in the scenario list.

JDrommel developed an "Overthrough" for the Kasserine Pass.

Greetings All,

OverThrough or BreakLord???
Gosh, whats in a name?

Anyway, we played the JDrommel Kasserine "breaklord" yesterday at our Klub.

4 players, using a breakthrough deck.
Great game - a bit time consuming on set up and 24 medals for victory is quite a task. I had pre sorted the terrain to speed up set up on site.

Germans took it 24-18, looked easy for the Germans for a long while, yet stubborn resistance from American artillery in the centre left blunted the German attack and racked up a number of medals.
It was a "game" victory, (as opposed to a historic) for the Germans as they never advanced further than half way down the board.

Well worth the effort in set up to play.

Now to check out Burdie Smith's pages for other scenario's.

I'm assuming with the new Extended Breakthrough scenarios (Dday- Operation Neptune) and unofficial "Breaklord/Overthrough" scenarios its best to use the BT deck vs. the OL deck. Has anyone used the OL deck with a "Breaklord/Overthrough" game? I suppose you could use any deck or hybrid thereof right???

On those deep boards, I like having the BT deck's Medics and On The Move rules. But I also use the Overlord rules with it. (This affects cards like THE and 202.)

In overtrough format, I apply the following rules. Everything depends on the number of players. If you play the game with 4 (2 against 2) than I prefer the Breakthrough cards. If you play 3 against 3 (or 4 against 4) the overlord cards will be better.
