Favourite Overlord Scenarios? (non official) Fri, 09 January 2015 10:57
it might have been done before but i wondered if we could start a list of peoples favourite overlord scenarios from the front - i want to start playing some and as there are so many of them, some ideas would be helpful to know where to start! Smile

Thanks,

Slim

One of my favourites is Stalingrad Perdition by LooneyLlama: click here

To cary on about LooneyLlama (sorry I have played a lot of his scenarios)

If you would like to use your Equipment pack more check out LooneyLlama's Push to the Roer. Or Crossing the Volturno Line.

And because it is in my neck of the woods: The Forgotten Battle about the battle for Overloon, few people have heard of this battle but it was one of the fiercest fought in Western Europe and was named a second Caen for that. Towns were taken house by house and woods tree by tree, when the germans ran out of ammo they fought with bayonets and shovels.

Starting with the scenario's made by lonneylama is always a good start Smile

Espacially his reinforcements rules like the one in Push to the ruhr are great. Alse the terrain en units used are worth to try some of his overlords.

Jeroen and Anton, thank you so much for your kind words about my Overlord scenarios. Since there are so few official ones, I have been working almost exclusively on them. Besides the ones you mentioned, 'Counterattack at Carenten' is another that is fairly new and plays extremely well in all sectors. What's interesting is that before Operation Neptune came out with special force SWAs, I had incorporated them in a special rule in this scenario. I also came up with a new unit, the assault gun, which was used extensively in this battle by the Germans. And finally the German left and center and Allied right and center commanders must work together to achieve victory.

By the way, I will have a new Overlord coming out very soon. Quit2(Wim) collaborated on this with me by recommending some very astute changes. Stay tuned.

I just wanted to follow up on the discussion on non official Overlord scenarios. According to the official list there are only 26 official Overlord scenarios! Most of them were written well before many of the new rules and units were available. I thought there was a need for more scenarios incorporating many of these rules and units. Since I have a library full of history books, I wanted to make scenarios based on a real battle. Every scenario I write has been painstakingly researched and play tested. I try to incorporate topography, similar strategy in the real battle, and units in the construction. Of course, playability in ALL sectors is of utmost importance in this construction. For example, in 'The Forgotten Battle' the Allied armor assault was hampered by marshes, canals and German Panthers. The right flank in this battle depicts this. In the center as Jeroen mentioned above it was house to house and tree to tree fighting. On the Allied left there was a German counterattack against the British that took their headquarters. The Germans in my battle can try that. And finally, the Germans received reinforcements from over the Rhine but were limited due to logistics and air power. It's tough to get them on every turn. The Germans will need those reinforcements to have any chance of winning. All of my Overlords are constructed similarly.

If you do try any of my scenarios please let me know what you think. All criticisms are welcome. That's the only way I'll get better.

P.S. General Slim, you will not be disappointed in playing 'Counterattack at Carentan'. Everyone who plays it with you will have a say in the outcome.

My friend looked through them and decided he wanted to play The Forgotten Battle first - which we did yesterday. I admit I'd never heard of it before - and I've read quite a lot about WW2!
it was a great scenario Very Happy - it came down to the last card! I loved the way each section is different enough but are still all connected. We we are going to set up 'Counterattack' tonight - and after that I want to play 'Operation Nordwind'!

One of the very few other Overlords I have played is jdrommel's Battle of Lauban which is also very good.

I have to put in a good word for my buddy, Lujo - the Battle of Seelow Heights is a well-designed and pretty balanced Overlord scenario right from the gates of Berlin!
