Newbie questions Fri, 13 February 2015 16:14
I have the base set of M44 but nothing else. While I really enjoy the game, I do find myself wishing there were rules for differentiating a Sherman from a Panzer IV, added rules for things like the MG42, mortars, bazookas/panzerfausts, etc. Do any of the expansion sets contain rules for adding elements such as these?

Welcome to the memoir '44 forum Smile you'll find many players here that will help you through the game.
See you on the battlefield.

To answer your question:
You should definitely buy the equipment pack.
This has different units with different capabilities.
Problem is that for many of the scenarios you need other expansions to play.
Winterwars is an alternative where many of the units from the equipment pack are available, units are then represented with a badge.

I have house rules for different types of things. Check it out on my user page by clicking on the user page on the left. Then navigate to projects and finally house rules units.

Hope this helps Smile

Although Memoir '44 will not get that detailed, it now does offer up many different units types and variations of those unit types. I would look to the official rules on units first.

That being said, there are many different "house rules" out there. Looking at the threads on the forums will show a dizzying array of them.

It all depends on what you are looking for. You will not find ASL detail in the official rules.

Please note that the majority of Memoir '44 players will play the rules as written.

Others may house rule to varying degrees but of course players would have to agree on how far these house rules go.

I myself stay with the official rules as I believe most work well enough with the system as designed.

I'd agree with what's here already - start with some of the specialized units and SWAs that come up in various expansions, and if that isn't enough, try some houserules.

I vaguely remember there being an archive of all the unit cards somewhere on the DoW website - if that exists and I didn't just dream it up, you may want to find that and start there.

Correct: it's over here

I am with tank as I also play following the official rules.

Check out the rules of the different expansions also, you can find them if you go into the shop and to that expansion. There are PDF files wit the rules in different languages.

Enjoy!

Winter Wars is probably the best expansion for new unit types in my opinion. Of course it is recommended to acquire the winter desert board for the best experience but this is definitely not required if you don't mind the snow tiles on the country side board. Hope this helps!

Lol. Hmm, that reminds me of me sometimes. Now where did I park my car? Too funny.

Reminds me of the old Talking Heads (I think) song...

You may ask yourself "How did I get here?"

This is not my beautiful house...

This is not my beautiful wife....

I'm new to the game too and love it. I wanted different figures for the senarios and eventually bought all the expansions. but what I did in the meantime is searched online for toy soldiers and airfix has a very affordable line of 1/72 scale and they look great. a box runs usually 9 dollars Canadian and comes with 48 soldiers. usually enough for a senario. they have a great selection from commandos to paratroopers and everything in between.
