The Great War - Memoir in WW1 Sun, 08 February 2015 10:50
Hi All, just want to share with you some fantastic project which is on Kickstarter now. This is Memoir '44 in WW1 by Plastic Soldier Company (WW2 wargamers should be familiar with this great manufacturer).

I wonder how they have solved the problems of the static world war 1 battles where the defender has the upper hand most of the times. After the (first) battle of the marne the front was static for almost 4 years.
The pictures look good though Smile

My guess is that the 'battles' will be small scale, with an objective of taking a single hill or trench line. But you're right about the power of the machine gun. It will be interesting to see any new 'period' rules Richard has in mind.

I have been hoping that a WW1 game using Richard's system would come out during the 100 year anniversary. I have never backed a Kickstarter project before but I have backed this one. It's aleady funded after two days so hopefully it will be out in June or July

Thanks for sharing! It looks interesting and I hope they get some reviews or 'game play' videos up soon so we can see how the game works. Richard Borg is always a sure bet, though!! Smile

Looks interesting. I'll wait until I see the quality of the final components.

However, I don't think I can invest time and money in yet another war game system after Memoir '44, C&C Napoleonics, Conflict of Heroes and Heroes of Normandie. Confused

That was my assumption when I heard the news. But this claims to be all Richard Borg.

Anybody know any details about the game play and how it is going to be different?

The list of components has:

58 Command Cards
40 Combat Cards

My guess is that these Combat Cards will influence the game play more and add a dynamic element that will make the game more interesting on a small scale tactical way. The current Memoir '44 Winter Combat Cards effect gameplay in Winter Wars and the Urban Combat combat cards do a similar job for Eastern front city battles.

I have been pining for a WW1 tabletop game for ages and the news that one with Richard Borg's name on it is coming out should be cause for double celebration. However, having invested so heavily in M44 and recently also in X Wing I really don't have the cash for this at present. Plus, £59 for the starter game? I know that the minos look quite nice but that still seems pretty steep to me...

Just received:

"Thank you for your patience whilst we have been getting The Great War through the first round of production. If it wasn’t for your incredible support throughout the Kickstarter campaign the production of this game would not have been possible.

I’m so excited to announce that your games will be ready by the time of our launch at The UK Games Expo in Birmingham on 29th-30th May.

All those attending the Games Expo will have the opportunity to register to pick their game up in person. If you are not attending the Games Expo, your game(s) will be shipped shortly afterwards."

I am looking forward to see this game with the M44 compatible map and hexes. Also I am really interested to see how will be played with 15mm miniatures, if its good I will buy a few boxes from PSC WW2 infantry, to have enough figures for 3 D-day landings maps. I have 5-6 players, but nobody else has basic games (thanks to the online version), so I need many nice figures. Smile
