Played the Seelow Heights overlord scenario last Friday night, 2v2. Germans won 18-10. We all expected the Russians to be stronger, and that may have contributed to the Russian defeat.

Overall, the scenario is one of my favorite overlords we've played despite the lopsided score.

Thanks DoW for releasing these scenarios!

Same here i did a solo game and the germans won 18 - 11, They did not lose 1 starting objective and got 4 extra medals from a recon 1 card.
At the start the Allies suffered week cards many probes and recons that gave some better cards towards the mid game, but overall the Germans only needed to kill 9 units for an easy win.

Our game was tighter (18 - 16) but still a German win. No objectives were lost.

Hello,
I am from Germany, and I ordered this on may 7th. I also paid by paypal for the shipping costs at once. But still I wait for it, because the scenarios aren´t even shipped, yet. Sad

I played a solo game of Seelowe Heights and the Russians won easily.

But this was due to them having great cards and better luck (combined with bad German luck - they only played one recon during the game too). They took out both Tigers and an arty early on and later the 88. The Germans played three TFHs but got very few orders.

On their last turn they sent one tank from each flank off the board to gain the last two medals.

I will be playing the Seelow Heights scenario Saturday at a convention. I see you need a lot of Russian infantry (96, I think) so we will use my EF, my friends EF, and I am thinking of taking either the Operation Overlord cardboard pieces or some Axis and Allies Russian infantry from the board game. Which would you suggest. I will probably take some from the A&A board game.

The Axis and Allies minis would aesthetically look better. We used American infantry for the Russian elite units mainly because we didn't have enough chits to differentiate.

And I don't see how the Russian player can win without luck. I wonder if the rule that gives the German player a VP for every recon 1 card is needed.

I got beaten with the Germans, my good friend Tank Commander is no rookie, and he won with 1 medal.

I have to say i played 4 recons for 4 medals, i believe the hills are nearly impossible to take for the allies, however the Germans exited 3 units for 3 medals.

The only thing i could take away from my opponents well played and deserved win was me getting only 2 tactic cards the entire game.
One was a TFH wich gave me poor orders in L and C and none on my German right.
Also i missed on some units, leaving one with only 1 figure in my last turn to lose the game.

So it is possible, but you need to be a smart player and maybe hope for Germans that have poor cards like i did.

If probes would only have given me medals Laughing

I think this rule is has the effect of forcing the Russians to be aggressive and force the issue.

If he takes a slow approach and tries to grind down the defenders he could very well run out of time as it allows the German player more chances to gain an automatic medal. The more pressure the Russians apply the less likely the Germans can afford to play more than 1 Recon in any given turn. Assuming of course the Germans draw those cards.

In other words, the rule I think has less to do with play balance and more with keeping things moving. It is a very clever feature and i do like it.

When I played this scenario at the convention, the Germans only got two medals from recon cards. They managed to eliminate a lot of infantry units. As CnC, I tried to take the city medals away from them when they got the definite lead. I was unable to do so before they won.
