Lost. Need help Sun, 27 March 2016 23:53
So. I just purchased memoir 44 and the overlord expansion. I was setting it up and realized I cannot tell the two sides apart at all. I'm color blind, and to me they're both the same color: dark blue-ish purple-ish. What can I do? Can I buy units that are grey? Sorry if this has been answered before. Thanks!

You could try buying the 'Mediterranean Theatre' expansion. Those are Britisch figures and they come in yellow. They are the same number of figurines as in the base game.

Second option is the 'Equipment Pack' expansion. A lot more figures coming in light grey. You could use the French soldiers as infantry, the Hobart Funnies tanks and tank destroyers as armor units and the Italian artillerie as artillerie. Next to those you get a whole lot more units like machine guns, mortars, snipers, ski troops, cavalry, Tiger tanks, ...

Third option is to paint the units of the base game. I have seen some painted figurines and done by capable hands they look awesome.

Another option is to separate the pieces by their poses / appearance.

This will not work for the artillery but the German infantry are crouching down while the US infantry are standing. You should be able to recognize the US Sherman tank over the German PZ IV easily.

If you happen to own something like Axis & Allies, you can use pieces from that game for one of the sides.

Or (this may not be the most elegant solution) you can put a coin on the hex with each Allied unit.

I have a color blind friend and he simply spray painted all of one army black. It was really fast and easy to do, and didn't cover any of the fun details.

After he was done, he said that if he had to do it again he might have just painted the helmets black. It would have taken him a lot longer but he thought that would be a cool look.

Good luck! It's worth the effort, no matter what you decide to do. This is by far my favorite board game of all time!! Smile

Krylon Fusion Khaki Spray Paint for plastic

for the US Army. The color is clearer than the actual green of the miniature.

Notice the different poses the infantry are in, the Allied troops are more straight and the Axis are more scrunched down. For the artillery, you could paint a white ring around the barrel. Or for that matter, paint a white dot on the helmets of the troops of one side or the other.

In low light situations, like my friends game table, I tell by the poses.
