Printed Full Size Scenario Maps II? Sat, 04 June 2016 03:35
Thanks to all that have already posted and your responses have truly been noted!

For the rest of you Memoir '44 fans, I am asking you to join in now and vote. I really want to make this as simple as possible. What would you prefer in a future expansion for Memoir '44?

1. Preprinted standard size scenario maps?

2. Preprinted Breakthrough size scenario maps?

3. Preprinted Overlord size scenario maps?

Please, rate and list them as to which you would like to have.

Even those of you, that have already pitched in with other ideas, please, please, rate them as to which you would like to have.

Thanks for taking time to post. DoW really does appreciate you input.

Thanks Again!
Richard Borg

On a firm first place: Preprinted Breakthrough size scenario maps
In face to face play these would be ideal.

After that: Preprinted Overlord size scenario maps, really great to get a game setup up quickly. Because these play (mostly0 fast it also gives more time to discuss the rules and quirks of the scenario. (After a (long) setup you want to play and not listen to stuff Smile )

Preprinted standard size scenario maps? Not necessary in my opinion for two reasons.
1. setup for one standard board goes quickly
2. because of different tournaments we have a selection of preprinted standard boards available (Yes I am spoiled that way Smile )

Having said that: preprinted maps of scenarios you simply cannot make with a standard board allow for more exotic scenarios. Smile
Especially strange coastlines can be made then. We have made one where you played on an island and one where we had a broken dike with flooded land behind it. Smile

Hi Richard and DOW.

1. Preprinted Overlord size scenario maps?

2. Preprinted Breakthrough size scenario maps?

3. Preprinted standard size scenario maps?

1 and 2 or pretty equal, and I buy no Mather what to keep my collection complete.

Regards.

From a casual player’s perspective I would rank the desirability of preprinted maps as follows:

1. Breakthrough Maps – (Bonus if they are double sided and/or combinable in pairs). They would require less set up and easily lend themselves to play by 2 (or possibly 4) people.

2. Overlord Maps – Again, less set up required and reduces the need for extra boards and terrain, etc. However they would require 8 people to play properly – not always possible in a home environment.

3. Standard Size Maps – In my opinion the least effective use of resources. There are plenty of regular scenarios available and most everyone has the pieces needed for set up. Scenario booklets and Campaign Books, etc would seem to be a better (and desirable) fit for Standard Size Scenarios. I would however echo the exception that Jeronimon pointed out: Unique layouts that the standard boards can’t reproduce. (This would apply to Breakthrough and Overlord layouts also)

With any of these layouts I would hope there would be some “extras” – new minis, combat decks, etc.

And finally, we look forward to whatever you decide on – we will certainly buy it!

Hi Richard,

My choice:

1. Pre-printed Overlord.

Most versitile. Can play with 2-8 players. Not many official ones. Playing time less than Breakthrough and can still be strategic if done well.

Hello all from France (Bordeaux) Cool there is not only wine there are also “mémoire44” fans. And we are looking forward to the next new. Very Happy

My choice:

1st Preprinted Overlord map
2nd Preprinted Breakthrough map
3rd Preprinted Standard map

I note that if there was a fourth choice (I know the French are complicated Shocked ) “Breaklord & Overthrough” like that would take the first place. (Can be a landing in the Pacific Theater that all fronts are represented)

1st: breakthrough
2nd: overlord

I would probably not buy standard size maps, unless they come with other goodies.

Hi Richard

My votes:

1. Preprinted Overlord size scenario maps. They are flexible (can be played by 2 - 8 players) and benefit from setting up normal boards if terrain heavy. Sceanrios with a second Combat deck are especially welcomed

2. Preprinted Breakthrough size scenario maps

3. Preprinted standard size scenario maps

3,2, and 1 in that order.

However, more standard maps in a non-map form (online, book, etc) would be great.

Greetings Richard,

My order of preference,

2 - Breakthrough
3 - Overlord
1 - Standard

I do like the idea of unique pre-printed maps,(of any size) using terrain that isn't available and is only a "one off" - say a specific St. Nazaire raid map.

Bottom line is no matter what comes out I'll end up buying it!

Hi Richard,

thanks for asking the involvement of the community.

My preferences :
2 - Breakthrough
3 - Overlord
1 - Standard

I do like Breakthrough map that can be combined into Breaklord / Overthrough maps. They have the versatility you can play them with up to 8 players and depending on the number of players involved you use either 2 Breakthrough Decks or a single Overlord Deck.

A reprint of the Combat Cards (Sword of Stalingrad) would be nice too as the stocks seem to be depleted.

On our side of the pond we are lucky to have a number of F2F tournaments that produce their preprinted standard maps so we have a steady stream of those.

But anyway, whatever comes out I'll probably end up buying it. Very Happy This game is an addiction Rolling Eyes

Re:Printed Full Size Scenario Maps II? Tue, 07 June 2016 01:03
My list:

1. Breakthrough- Really I would suggest Double Breakthrough (2 Breakthrough maps connecting together as in for example Omaha-Utah). That way you can play them as single maps each 2 players, connected map can play as a 4-player Breakthrough or a 6-8 Overlord. This way you get the best of both worlds. Double side the maps to get 2 of these scenarios. More bang for buck. If this is done than there is no need for...

2. Traditional Overlord- distant second for sure

3. Standard- distant third.

Throw in some Italians and new "augmenting" cards like City/Winter cards and we're good. Smile

Definitely first choice would be :

Breakthrough !

Followed in 2nd place by : Overlord

Finally : regular scenarios.

Assuming you may be thinking of providing a number of regular scenarios in a pack? Then maybe a set of regular scenarios that make up a campaign would be my suggestion.

Best = Breakthrough (my favorite format)

OK = Overlord (reduce set up time)

no = standard (set up time is not an issue)

Since I primarily play online in the VASSAL program, the idea of more campaign books exceeds any desire for preprinted maps. Nevertheless, I would opt for BREAKTHROUGH size maps in the form of a campaign if possible.

My order of preference would be:

1. Pre Printed Overlord

2. Pre Printed Breakthrough. If santa was feeling generous and wanted to make stand alone scenarios or linked scenarios (as in the d day maps) I would be very pleased. I have been a good boy.

3. To be honest I probably wouldnt bother with pre printed normal size battles. They tend not to be too terrain heavy.

I would be very interested in pre printed Overlord. It is the way we play the game most often and it's just ace. Overlord would be my preference by a country mile.

Breakthrough would be a distant second with single boards not far behind.

The absolute best case scenario for me would be a set of Overlord scenarios in a campaign. That would be wonderful.

If not too late, I would rate as follow :

1. Preprinted Breakthrough size scenario maps

2. Preprinted Overlord size scenario maps

3. Preprinted standard size scenario maps

Quite similar choice than Jeronimon fir similar reasons, but as I has never played yet an Overlord Embarassed , it's difficult for me to consider if I rather Overlord prepinted map to Breakthrough ones.

Anyway, thanks a lot to ask us our opinion, Richard. That's very appreciated Smile

Above all, preimprimed maps are useful when the tiles to set the scenario don't exist or are no more available.

So I think that to publish more and more preimprimed maps is not the good response.

It's a pity that landings can be made only onto linear coasts (with the available boards). So the need is for :
- new tiles to make jagged coasts : sea, coast line, beach, lowland, cliff, etc.
- the Air Pack tiles which are no more available.

Hello Mr Borg

I would like to see more pre printed maps in the breaktrhough format. Ideally I would like to see campaigns in the north african theatre in the mentioned format using many of the new figurines of the equipment pack

So my list goes like this

-1 Breakthrough
-2 Overlord
-3 Regular size
