SPWC 2017 sign-up and rules Mon, 17 April 2017 15:57
This is the sign-up thread for SPWC 2017.

The Single Player World Championship (SPWC) :
it is the classic 2-player single elimination (Knock-Out) tournament played on the original USA map.
The tournament is open to any participants regardless of his/her ranking.

SPWC will start on May 14th, registration will then close on May 13th.
The maximum number of players is 128 limiting the tournament to seven rounds. The Last 3 rounds of the tournament are called Quarterfinal (8 players), Semifinal (4 players), Final (2 players), together they are called "The Finals". The winner is called world champion for one year.

The seeding for the tournament will be done before the tournament starts. The seeding is based on the TELO ranking of US map if possible.

The tournament has a Tournament Director (TD) and an assistant TD. They are allowed to play but they are not allowed to rule something regarding their own games.

Matches
A match is the meeting of 2 players in a round. Each match is played as a ‘Best Of Seven’ Match in the first rounds until the Final which will be a Best of Nine Match. Best of Seven means, that the first player who wins 4 games proceeds to the next round. The possible results are 4:0, 4:1, 4:2, 4:3. Best of Nine means, that 5 wins are necessary.

Starting player rule: For the first game the starting player is determined randomly. Afterwards, the starting player is changed in every game. A tie won't count for the match result, but it will count for starting! (Note: If using java, the last player starting has to create the next game and activate "other players start").

A match is expected to be played during one week. Sunday is the last day to play the end of one round. Every Monday the next round starts. If both players of a next round are already qualified they are allowed to play their match before the official start of the next round. Under special circumstances the TDs can rule that a match is played a few days later after the end of the round if both players and the next opponent agrees and a date for the next round is already set within the next round limit. A match not played until deadline can be ruled as forfeit for both players.

Every player should give at least 2 possible playing times with at least one hour space of time. It is recommended to play all games of a match in one session. Understanding that we are a worldwide game, when giving playing time suggestions, times should be at least during a "good" period for both players. Good times tend to be at the evening (17:00-24:00 local time) and the morning (7:00-11:00 local time).

Games
All games must be played rated. Ties are not counted. It is up to the higher ranked player to choose the observation status of a game till "The Finals".

If one player is replaced by a bot, the other player has to wait. One bot move has to be accepted regardless of the consequences. The not replaced player is free to cancel the whole game (not counting) and play a new one if asked so. After 4 minutes of waiting (please pay attention for the 2 minutes time out, type something) the not replaced player has to leave the game. The game should be resumed as quick as possible. If this is not possible it is a win for the not replaced player.

Platform
There is an expectation that a person signing up for this tournament needs to be ready to play on either the java or Steam platform.

It is hoped that players can work out a suitable choice of the platform to be played for their match. Since there are some people who have strong preferences on what platform they prefer to play their match, it is possible that during any match the platform being played could alternate between Steam and java. In such a case where the choice of platform cannot be agreed upon by the players, choice of the platform for the first game therefore goes to the higher seeded player; then each game will proceed alternately on each platform.

(If in such a case a player is not willing to play on one of the platforms, then in case of alternating platforms, the player refusing to play on the platform loses that game of which they refuse to play.)

********
The full rules in two other languages for this tournaments can be found on the wiki page: http://www.tickipedia.net/wiki/Single_Player_World_Champions hip
The only major change from last year is the new note on platforms.

It is up to the higher ranked player to choose the observation status of a game till "The Finals".

I thought all tournament games should be observable? Unless there are honest mistakes ah hem 2016 NC Final game 1 Rolling Eyes .

Anyhow I am in.

Thanks Onyx and Voj for organizing.

I'm in for sure. I'm free from May 20th so it's perfect for the first week.
Big thanks to the TD and co-TD.
I'm new with this format but as I understand it, some players will only play a match before being out?

Yes. If you lose 4 games out of 7 you are out. So roughly half of players get knocked out after playing only one match. I lost in round 1 both last year and two years ago.

If my opponent wants to play in java they should conform to my limited availability (only past 22:00CEST as i have to "borrow" our windows 7 PC from my son).
