Online Map Making - Map Editor Fri, 01 December 2017 02:25
Is there any way that I can have more than 1 of my maps to be available online at one time OR are we limited to only 1 map.

When I'm in the map editor and select a map for online play it un-checks my other map making it impossible for anyone else to play it while I'm playing the other.

I was thinking of recreating some pacific maps that aren't already available for expert play.

Thanks
John

I believe the limit is one per user ID.

I was thinking of uploading some of Richard Borg's scenarios so they could be played on expert mode. But, with a limit of 1 that would prove difficult. I added The Battle of Hong Kong only to realize someone had done it.

I remember there being some limitations with units exiting the board. We're those issues ever addressed?

It would be neat if we could identify 10 maps from Borg or jdrommel and then find 10 people willing to create it as their one map.

Or maybe DOW could grant access to one player to be able to have 10 maps access. Trying to think outside the box here.

The created maps would show (by RBorg) or (by jdrommel) after the scenario name so players would know that its an official map.

I will probably create them myself and just activate 1 at a time and play against Johnny. But, it's a shame I won't be able to share.

I'll have to determine which maps the editor can handle also.

Mabatang by RBorg & Battle of Piva Forks by jdrommel are the next 2 from the Pacific theater I will create.

There is a limit of one scenario for each person.

I had the same question before, when I wanted to put up more then one scenario. Here are links to the 2 threads that I had started asking about it:

Unfortunately Days of Wonder isn't supporting the online version any more. They are doing minimal care to keep it running but they aren't fixing anything else, adding new features, changing current systems, or modifying the game or framework any more.

Getting a bunch of people together to make official maps available is a great idea! Like you said, you'll have to test which features work and which don't, but I'm sure people would appreciate the effort.

Red-Eyed Jack: How did you make the Memoir '44-style text for "World Cup"?! I've tried to do something like that but haven't found a good way to replicate the Memoir text...do you mind sharing the magic? Cool

It was a lot of cutting and pasting in Photoshop or Paint (I don't remember which). The letters that I had to create on my own, I was was able to pull segments of existing letters for some of parts, while the for the rest, I just copied and pasted tiny bits from the letters till they had the same style as the rest. In the end, I was really pleased with the outcome.

Does that help you?

I'm looking for volunteers to use their 1 scenario allotment to host an official scenario/map.

I will create and test the maps and then email the map file to the volunteer. That person will then need to upload to DOW , make it public, etc.

Private message me your email address if you will host an official map.
You will need the map editor of course and meet other criteria.

You can still have your own maps. Just make the official scenario your default when you're not playing.

Let's do this

Having issues with the map editor. Can anyone help me?

I recreated the Mabatang map and I had some issues:

First, I had to replace the Big Guns with Mobile Artillery.
Second, I had to replace the exit marker with a permanent objective.

The above changes keep the scenario, for the most part, to play the same.

However, when either side gets to 6 medals the battle should stop and it just keeps going. I have no idea why it would do this. And, of course, both sides are set up with 6 medals as the condition of victory.

You might want to check out this wiki: http://m44sed.wikispaces.com
(menu on the left)

and especially the link at the bottom of the menu, unsupported items: http://m44sed.wikispaces.com/Unsupported+items

A valuable resource I find.

Re:Online Map Making - Map Editor Mon, 04 December 2017 04:25
I've now RE-created the following maps and they seem to play right:

PACIFIC
1-The Battle of Hong Kong (RBorg)

2-The Battle of Piva Forks (jdrommel)

3-Guam-Landing on Yellow Beach (jdrommel)

4-Mabatang (RBorg)
-Big Guns do not work so I replaced with a standard Artillery unit.

MEDITERRANEAN
1-Gap at Antelat (jdrommel)

EASTERN
1-Counter-Attack at Sverchkovo (jdrommel)
-Cavalry does not work. Replaced with Russian Special Forces.

Mabatang: Exit markers definitely work online, as they do in Escape Via the Coastal Road, for example. But there's one other online issue in that scenario: I believe Fish Ponds aren't programmed; only Rice Padis, which play a little differently.

Hong Kong: In the original scenario, the British tank should be allowed to move 3 hexes, but I seem to recall that wasn't compatible with the BCF rules, as programmed online. (I might be wrong about that.)
