I access via Microsoft Edge.
The "three dots" drop down menu top right gives the option of "open with internet explorer>"
Open the main page, then go for Play Now. Works fine for me.
Hope this helps one or two of you as well ...

Stas it will be RIP Java if you keep telling people to go play on the awful steam platform instead
perhaps we just encourage people to come back to java rather than suffer all the bugs and faults on Steam
just a thought.

PS I am truly sorry if this means I wont see friends any more
but I simply cannot understand why people want to play on a crap unstable application with weaker players who will make people wait 10 mins for their clocks to run out if they get blocked
Steam is for teenagers.
Long live Java...

I have the same problems as you Billie when I play on steam on my PC (I often cannot see my cards and have to draw more cards to see them appear again) so I play now on my Ipad and the app is more stable on that device (although it crashes sometimes). The fact is that Java won't be supported anymore by any browsers, it just a question of time...

I recently spent a week or 2 on the steam app since I couldn't use my laptop. While I think I could get used to using the app with time, it was a horrible experience overall. I never once saw enough 16+ players in the lobby for a multi game. I don't just open the app, look and leave, either. I stay in the lobby for hours while I do other things, checking in often for players/games. I played a few multis with 1500ish players and I think every game but 1, someone pulled the trick billie is talking about where they just let their timer run out in hopes everyone will leave. Since I rarely devote my entire attention to a game, I just do other things while I wait it out, but it is juvenile and annoying and certainly increases my dislike of the steam experience.

I thought it was you, Billie who has been saying something like "I understand and appreciate what you guys are doing", now you almoast call me the one who is responsible for community disintegration? So I can't actually add much more to what has been said.
By the way I do not call anyone to anywhere. I did send a message with what I'm going to do and what I think is right for now. Everyone will always do what is right for them.

Interesting opinion Billie, I want you to know the fact, that those old well-known players who had 1700+ or more on java are often high1500-low 1600 on steam. Those who were 1600+ are 1500+ or even 1400+. One can understand why.
Every time I switched to steam games from java I was going downwards scorewise, so don't judge players strenght by the score only.

Really nice to know you find the new platform playable, Laurel. I also took time to check your steam-games history, every multi you did play during that week was with 1400+ involved, not known, kind of new.
We do not play those kind of games here.
Normally multi is played with 7-9 max minutes for player, so even if one get disconnect, it's not a long wait. I have not experienced what you guys are speaking about, apart from that one game together with you both, I mean honestly.
How many games were delayed, aborted in the midle or even worse, destroyed by bots, on java? I don't really need an answer to that, since I know it well.

Stas
You are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. And as I clearly said I respect your motive is to try to bring the community together
But please don't quote me selectively. We can continue this by PM if you wish
Best wishes

This is an interesting conversation for a new-ish player like me. I first started playing TTR online a couple of years ago now.
I'm a mid-1400s player who plays 90% multi. In my experience (approaching 3,000 games played) Steam works quite well. On my PC it is very stable; on Android somewhat less so but I can't tell if that's the app or my cheap phone.
The number of 4- and 5-person games restricted to either 1400+ or 1500+ has lately been increasing. (I rarely see games set for 1600+.) I've been in a number of multiplayer games that included 1500-level players in the last couple of months, and thank you all for the free lessons! (Seriously, those games have improved my own play.)
For 2way play I notice that there are a few longtime players who tightly specialize, they've played thousands of games all on the Swiss map or whatever their favorite one is and always just 2player. Since the dominant activity on Steam is multiplayer I suspect that those specialist players will end up frustrated about finding games.
My perception is that the Steam player community divides at roughly the 1350 level. Below that are the casual players who get upset about blocking and some of whom will simply drop out of a game if things aren't going their way. Very irritating.
Players who are in the high 1300s and up on Steam (or at least the multiplayer regulars which is mostly who I play with) mostly don't have those issues. I can't actually remember the last time I had someone bomb out of a game so I had to sit and wait for the clock...of course there are a few bad actors. And I'm on a couple of ignore lists myself because someone failed to put "no block" into their game title and then got upset when I blocked them. But those are exceptions among Steam players above the mid-1300s.
In particular there is a regular little group of us who play a lot of multiplayer games on either Europe Mega 1912 or the Pennsylvania map. It's probably a dozen individuals, of whom a couple are above 1500 and then the rest of us mostly muck around in the 1400s. If that interests you look for me on there and I can promise some fun play with adults.

the old community is gone; even some people that liked steam are not playing any longer.
Personally I play better in new interface, as Java was a pain for my eyes. Indeed one can't follow cards played, but this is the same for all. Anyway there is no point to continue the discussion on which platform is better. Some active members of the community left because they were frustrated by the new owner; they hoped for some help towards the competitive community, which never came. They hoped for some features that were never added. Instead, more and more maps.
Only if some people have the time and stamina to start all over, a new community may be re-built, one that would play more maps not only USA. But, indeed, the quality of a player is manifest in USA 2er better than in any other map.

The quality of USA 2er laying is better than any other maps **only** because it was played by the majority of tops; not because it's the best map... Some should let a chance to Asia
