What are your favorite C and C games? Wed, 10 August 2016 00:11
I was just wondering what was your favorite Commands and Colors games after Memoir 44. How much do you play them when compared to M44? How did you become interested in this game system? My two are M-44 and Battle Cry. Thank you guys for your input. 5 Star General

The only other C & C game I've played is the first edition of Battle Cry. Like it, that was one reason I bought M44.

Greetings 5 Star,

I have yet to see another C & C game, so m'44 has to be my favorite. Very Happy

Gosh, its so long ago now since I first got M'44 I can't recall why I got it. Probably along the lines of Avalon Hill games were out of fashion, The D-Day aspect attracted me and it looked easy to play. ( ASL was always too much like hard work!)

And never regretted a minute of it or penny spent.

I have both Battle Cry 150 (newest release) and Memoir '44. I think because of both the historical context and personal interest, Memoir '44 is my favorite all time game.

Number 1
I started out with M44, still my favourite.

Close second.
After that I also bought Battlelore first edition. Which I played a lot with my son. he prefers this over M44.

Great War
Backed it on kickstarter and played a couple of games. But given a choice M44 has the preference.

C&C Napoleonics
Picked up a copy somewhere and played a few games. Haven't gotten round to playing it more.

Samurai battles
Has surplaced battlelore when playing with my soon, but we don't play it in the C&C format but in the art of tactics format. Still have to try it as a C&C game.

Battle Cry
Borrowed it from somebody, but could not persuade my son to play it. Sad

Hello,

My favorite game is Memoir'44 (but I suppose you know). Rolling Eyes

And I have also Battlecry 150. Cool

That's all.

Memoir is indeed my favorite. (For many reasons, but the original post wasn't asking our feelings about Memoir.)

Out of the others I've tried, Battle Cry 150 is very good -- interesting terrain, and it fixes all of the flaws in the original rules. (For example, in the original rules, if you had a "Hit & Run" cavalry card but no cavalry units, you had a dead card; now you can order a unit of your choice. And they replaced the "All Out Offensive" card that ordered all of your units with a card like TFH.)

I own The Great War, and have played it once. Interesting differences in the rules, compared to the other C&Cs. Combat cards come in the base game. But I'd have to play it a little more before forming a valid opinion. One important note: You need a pair of flush-cut pliers to remove the pieces from the sprues. I learned that the hard way, as some of my amputee soldiers will vouch.

I tried BattleLore once in about 2008. Found the printing on the cards hard to read, and couldn't identify with the magical aspect.

I have them all except the Shogun one... didn't like the tiny breakable parts on the pieces.... may still get it and use other game pieces.

fav is M44... really like the Napoleonics... the ancients is very cool. Love the old Battlelore not so sure about the new one.... kickstartered the great war and moved just as I got it and now it is lost in a pile of boxes in storage with 90% of my games and books.

I love the flexibility of the whole system.

In order of purchase I have:

* All Memoir (now mostly play pre-printed maps, Overlord & Breakthrough and some campaigns)
* C&C: Ancients (again, all the stuff)
* BC 150
* C&C: Napoleonics (full set, now waiting for the Epic expansion)
* The Great War

In terms of preference I really like C&C:N mostly because of the variety in troop types and the way you need to play historically accurate tactics. Next up is TGW, mostly because of the second card deck and the HQ tokens. Again, I think it delivers a good historical feel but needs more scenarios.

I like BC 150 the least and find it too simplistic. It doesn't deliver the 'big battle' feel and there are too many cavalry units in most scenarios.

I would advise to track down an owner and play it first, then you can make an informed decision wether you want to buy it yourself.

Happy tracking! Smile

I would say "Yes" to buying TGW. Gives a good, tense game and a good feel for the period. Clever new stuff too like the extra deck and terrain modifiers on the dice.

I mostly play Memoir'44, but I do like Napoleonic series that I start to play recently. Memoir is much faster game and therefore is more preferable within my game group because we like to play several scenarios per session.

I also have the first edition of Battle Cry which is really an introductory game and would certainly benefit if it would be reissued with more complex set of rules.

Hi

Have many of them and all are interesting but the playability is different as Battlecry 150th Edition or Ancients.

Sometimes needs few adaptations to make the game better and less hasardous.

Hello,

I have all of them and made more than 40 games with each (of course more than hundreds for M44 Very Happy ).
This is my TOP5 ranking :

1- Napoleonics
2- Great War
3- M44
4- Ancient
5- Battlecry

I have Memoir '44, C&C: Napoleonics, The Great War.

M44 was my first. I decided I would get one GMT C&C and I felt at the time C&C: N was perhaps a bit more interesting for me than C&C: A. I wouldn't mind having C&C: A as well, but I would need to play C&C: N more first, and my gaming budget is currently going in other directions (will have to buy more M44 soon too!). I am a completist, so I would have to buy all the expansions right away (€$€$). The Great War I got as a gift from PSC for making the VASSAL module. It looks very nice, but I haven't dared to take up the sprue removal challenge yet.

So as to your questions:
* How much do you play them when compared to M44?
I play M44 more.

* How did you become interested in this game system?
I came across the VASSAL module for Memoir '44 (the version before I started working on it, 8.2 or something), tried it, liked it, and bought the game.

I have two C&C games: Battle Cry and Memoir 44. I acquired Battle Cry first a few years ago without knowing anything about the C&C system. The game's quick pace and the fact that my son and I could play together appealed to me. But we've pretty much left the game behind once we got our hands on Memoir 44, which is unquestionably my favorite board game. I'm thinking of buying The Great War but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

A Medieval version is in the works - it is listed on the GMT page as a P500 project.

Memoir ‘44
The Great War

Hope you all get a chance to see "They Shall Not Grow Old" on its next limited release date on FEB. 1st. Unbelievable film restoration work from WWI British Archive footage.

I have:
Memoir
Ancients
Battlelore (1st and 2nd)
Tricorne
Napoleonics
Battle Cry
The Great War

I like the C&C system because it's easy to learn and still it has enough tactical depth.

Memoir is my favourite.

Memoir '44 is my favorite board game of all time, without question.

I also have Battle Cry, Ancients, and BattleLore (2nd Edition) but they are IMHO not as good. Memoir is just a special game, for so many reasons!
