TTR pocket upgrade Fri, 24 June 2016 06:42
I have TTR pocket version with 1910 and big cities, as well as TTR Europe and Switzerland for iOS. I'd like to take advantage of the ongoing 70% off sale. If I upgrade, will I get the maps I have already purchased?

Also, is there a difference beteween "upgrade" and "purchase" regarding keeping the maps I have already purchased? Right now it seems the purchase option is cheaper.

Also, are the new maps also on sale?

In the future, Ticket to Ride things can be posted to the specific forum: https://www.daysofwonder.com/en/thread/?frm_id=78

Your USA map and 1910 expansion will transfer over but Apple doesn't allow us to side-grade other apps, so Ticket to Ride Europe and Switzerland won't be included in the upgraded version. However, you can just keep playing those two maps in the pocket version if you want.

The versions are the same but the price is different. I believe you will be able to restore the 1910 purchase in the full version if you are logged in to your Days of Wonder account, but the Europe and Swiss map can't be transferred over.

The new maps aren't part of this sale but there may still be a bundle sale going on. I hope this helps!

This is the steam bundle, correct? If I do this, would I still have to buy the iOS version separately to play on my phone?

Also, is there a difference between the "Mac App store" version and the version on my iphone? There is a thread that says that owners of the "Mac App store" version can get steam keys, although all I can seem to access from the download site is a depreciated linux version.

Sorry about the wrong forum. This is my first time to the site and must have clicked on the wrong section.

I found the answer to one of my questions. Evidently Apple (and Google) force iOS (and Android) users to make separate purchases on their devices, even if we own the game on other platforms.

There are a few companies that offer cross-platform in-app purchases that technically violate the terms of service. The games I've noticed doing this tend to fall into one of two camps:

1. 800 pound gorillas like Hearthstone who can negotiate special deals.

2. Smaller games that scoot under the radar.

Days of Wonder appears to fall into the middle. Too big to get away with it unnoticed and too small to negotiate special terms.

I did a LOT of research into cross-platform content ownership when I was annoyed my Humble Bundle maps didn't transfer over to my iOS install. I went so far as to have multiple conversations with Apple developer support. Basically, Days of Wonder would have to add an in-game currency you earned or bought which you then used to buy the additional maps. While this makes sense for things you purchase periodically, like card packs in Hearthstone, it makes no sense for map packs that aren't released often in games like Ticket to Ride. The fix would cause more complaints than the problem.

You are exactly right. We're in that awkward place in the middle and really wish we could find a way around it! Confused We've done our best to offer things at a discount and compensate users for their inconvenience. Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding!

Any reason why you don't just keep the exact same app up twice as both "Ticket to Ride" and "Ticket to Ride Pocket"? That wouldn't seem to require any additional resources on your part, and would mean that your customers don't need to buy a new version of the app yet again.

I'm just a little annoyed that in the space of about a year you have discontinued the old iOS versions of TTRP and TTREP, released a new version of TTRP (in which I rebought the Europe map I already owned), and are now discontinuing that new version of TTRP.

It really makes me hesitant to buy any of your games in the future.

I have the same situation! I already bought all previous versions and additions (rebought them in a Pocket) and now you say I need to do it again to stay update!

It is totally unfair and not professional at all!

Why do you need to do so many "new" apps which looks exactly the same! Maybe you can make some discount codes and give it to the people who already bought them?

If I spend another $20 for this new "the same" game, who can promise me it will be the last app and it will last more than a couple of years at least?

Yes, it isn't an ideal situation and we're sorry for all the confusion around it. The reason we are consolidating our Ticket to Ride apps is because we want to be in a place moving forward where we only have to update one app.

When we first made the app version and the two pocket versions, we didn't have the ability to make one universal version that could resize for phone and tablet screens and handle all the content we want to release. With the latest version of the game, we're in a place where we feel confident in our ability to carry this app long into the future! We can push out more maps, create exciting new content, offer great support, and do all of this on one app.

We carefully calculated the cost of this migration and people who are going from our Pocket USA app to the full app (and are getting the Pennsylvania map as a compensation) are actually saving money compared with people who are buying the same content without having owned it before.

We recognize that it's frustrating, and we've done our best to compensate people for this. We have an FAQ that might help answer questions as well: https://asmodee.helpshift.com/a/ticket-to-ride/?s=major-upda te-on-pocket-1472827978

Thanks so much for your understanding and continued support of Days of Wonder! We don't take it lightly!!

However, the Mac steam upgrade which is really more of a legal update since it's the exact same app, that just became unsupported without alerting the buyer after august 2016, is in fact not possible to obtain. DoW seems not to give you any Steam key, whatever procedure they ask, you make to comply. After that they will just avoid anything you ask...
