TTR Europe- Stations Sun, 16 June 2019 00:10
I had a situation recently with the stations in TTR that have caused a bit of upset in my home.

Recently, while playing with my husband, he placed a station on the connection where I would have needed a station to complete my segment, but had not added one yet. He used his station solely to prevent me from completing my path. He had no destination card that included the city he used the station for, and did not have a track connected to the city. The track into the city was owned by another player.. Is this allowed? My understanding of stations is that they are used as a way to get out of blocking, not to use them to block. Looking for clarification. Thanks!

Any player can build a station on any city, so although it wasn't the kindest move, your husband made a legal (and strategically sound) move. The stations are certainly used to help people avoid being blocked but just like laying tracks down, if someone wants they block another player from placing something there.

Sorry!

Ha! Indeed. Laughing The thing to remember about Ticket to Ride, in all of it's versions, is that it can be played as a very casual game with no blocking or cut-throat tactics or it can be played as highly strategic game where anything goes. It's important to decide as a group what's going to ruin the game for you.

Have fun!

Oh yeah! I think the thing that was most surprising, is that we had never established any type of cut-throat playing, and had always played very casual, fun games. It threw me and the other player off completely.

Totally! There are some players who barely go for any Destination Tickets and just focus on getting long routes and blocking people. It isn't as fun for me, personally, and my wife would hate that kind of play but it's totally legal.

For some people, finding the best way to win is the fun part. Have fun finding the best way for you and your family/friends to play!
