  T2R - Rails/sails - how do you end game? Sat, 23 May 2020 21:47
Three of us played this game for the first time (we've played the regular T2R before). The instructions say that the game ends when a player has 6 or less pieces, regardless of type. we took that to mean 6 or less total pieces. is this the wrong assumption? the game went on forever! we were even cheating and using the double routes. we each completed like 10+ ticket routes. This just doesn't seem right. we eventually just called the game, even thought no one had less than 6 pieces. I'm thinking if we had another player, the entire board would have been filled without someone getting down to 6 or less pieces. do they possibly mean 6 or less ships OR 6 or less trains?

No, it is meant to mean 6 pieces altogether (ships and trains are counted, while harbours are not). Your question makes me wonder ... did you start with the correct number? You should not start with all pieces that are included with the game, but much fewer. See the rulebook for the exact numbers (they vary between World map and Great Lakes map).

However, Rails and Sails still takes much longer to play, than a regular Ticket to Ride. Almost double the time, actually.
