Reprints coming soon Fri, 08 May 2020 14:54
There are always a lot of posts about out of stock expansions. I saw this on the DoW Instagram page.

Which expansions? Who knows. My bet is Pacific theatre as I feel there was a restock of Eastern Front and Med fairly recently (obviously all sold out already though!)

A number of UK sites still have old battlemaps up for pre order, wonder if these could make an appearance? I doubt it though.

For some reason I got an update from one of the UK stores about Tigers in the Snow being available to buy but when I got there it was just like before "pre order": I had preordered before but cancelled it since they said it would be coming in february and i didnt like that they took the money up front but couldnt give any proper answer on whether or when theyd been told by their suppliers that these items were incoming or not.

I was about to cancel and request a refund from Zatu for my preorder as well, I guess I'll wait a few more weeks. My big hope was for a big announcement on V-day, so now I'm clinging to it maybe having been delayed due to covid.

Zatu have been drip feeding preorder of these maps for weeks. No sign of them turning in to something real. Call me cynical ("Cynical!") but I've decided not to park my cash with a retailer right now. They could be gone next week.

I had the battlemaps preordered back in February as they were supposed to be due early March according to the retailer. I cancelled a few days ago when the retailer replied to my request for an update, saying that they were overdue and there was no info coming from the publisher.

Is your retailer Zatu? I'd like to understand on what basis they're putting items up for preorder every 1-2 weeks, given the paucity of info from the publisher.

No, I ordered mine through Rules of Play. It was about the same time Zatu started taking preorders too though.

Board Games Guru in the UK are no longer advertising the maps for pre-order.

Any update on this?

I am new to Memoir 44 - and just purchased all the expansion pack re-releases (x2) - but why are map reprints a big mystery?

Can DoW just say yes or no if anything else will be reprinted in the next 6-12 months?

DoW doesn't share any advance info about M44 reprints or releases. They also haven't shared why this is the policy. I've heard it's Asmodee's fault and I've heard they used to but there was a delay this one time and some internet meanies said some hurtful things so they stopped. No idea...

In general, it is believed that everything pictured on the New Flight Plan rulebook will be reprinted fairly regularly (every 2-3 years historically) but breakthrough was not included in the latest round. So hang tight, it should be available in the next year or two. lol

It's fairly easy to DIY maps if you look around.

Jon,

Thanks for the response!

I mean, I can kind of understand the map packs being rare, but why in the world would they reprint an expansion with the breakthrough cards and not the breakthrough boards as well?

(They even did a reprint of the desert and winter board with this re-release)

I had a pretty big health scare last year - so I am not the patient gamer I used to be - someone just willing to wait years between reprints.

Thanks for the clarification! I really would like if companies would be more transparent in this day and age when it is so easy to have great customer engagement.

Thanks!

When Days of Wonder started out they had a rather large team and supported every game they had very well. Through the years the company has downsized and has been bought by Asmodee, who further downsized the staff.

The main focus of the Days of Wonder part of Asmodee is getting out new games or expansions for their popular games. I think that that is where the money is.

That they do reprint M44 and expansion every few years and that they even bring out new content is a big comfort in my book. The game is 16 years old (old enough to drive and drink in some countries Smile ) and still gets support.

Of course I would like things to be different, but I am still grateful for the support M44 gets from Days of Wonder/Asmodee. They could have pulled the plug long ago.

We shouldn't have to thank a company for selling something based on how long it's been on the market. The demand is obviously there and they ignore it.

To me, it's just a case of poor business practices. Not selling a product that is in demand is bad business. People shouldn't have to beg a company to sell them something, and be thankful that they trickle it out every few years. Second, on top of the lack of availability, the lack of communication in a time when it would literally take a few minutes per month to share info and plans, creates the opposite of goodwill in potential customers.

I have everything I need but if I was just starting out, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't bother with it.

Reprints are supposed to be here already (I'm in the USA). I don't know why they wouldn't reprint the Breakthrough board, it seems that that is what everyone wants. I think if the expansions were easier to get, they would sell a lot more base games.

Historical sales data doesn't actually bear that out. With all board games (but with Memoir '44 specifically) the base game sees a much higher sales rate than the expansions. And the further away you get from the base game, the less of the expansion you sell.

So the army packs (since they allow people to immediately start playing with just their base game) see pretty good sales. But as you get to things like the Breakthrough expansion, Air Packs, and Battle Maps, the sales drop off significantly because with those expansions the players need multiple expansions or several base games.

rasmussen81,

It seems in this day and age then it is quite easy for a company to simply require a pre-order goal to be met before you reprint the expansion.

(or alternatively allow a 3rd party company to officially produce the expansion under license)

It is a slap in the face of your customers and long time fans to simply claim they are no longer worth your time due to less than perfect profit margins.
