Memoir at 2022 World Boardgaming Championships

.
The Memoir tournament at next summer's 2022 World Boardgaming Championships will be held Thursday-Friday, July 28-29.
WBC will again be held at Seven Springs Resort, near Pittsburgh, PA, USA. (Details at https://www.boardgamers.org/wbcindex.html .)
The tournament will follow our usual schedule: Single elimination, with a Mulligan round the night before. Mulligan is 9pm Thursday evening, which follows an 8pm teaching demo. Main tournament all day Friday, beginning at 9am. If you lose in the Mulligan, you can re-enter with a clean slate in round 1 on Friday morning.
The last time WBC was held in person (2019), the GM had the audacity to win the tournament. Therefore, this year's tournament scenarios have been chosen to make it as difficult as possible for him to repeat: We'll play scenarios that eliminated him from the tournament in earlier years.
• Mulligan & Round 1 – Suomussalmi
• Round 2 – Forêt d'Ecouves
• Round 3 – **A Bridge Too Far, based on the movie of the same name, was introduced in the 2013 Belgian Open tournament
• Round 4 – **The Khalkhin Gol Spark, from the Khalkhin Gol Battlemap expansion
• Round 5 – Gold Beach (D-Day Landings revision), Richard Borg’s 2014 update of the original, standard-sized scenario, which was introduced at WBC
• Round 6 – **Hlegu, Burma, from the Jungle & Desert Battlemap expansion, with Jungle Combat cards
** We will play all scenarios to 6 medals, including the three that normally would just be 5 medals.
There will be a demonstration and teaching session before the Mulligan round. In addition, special rules for each scenarios will be explained at the beginning of the round, and help sheets will be available.
If you bring just a base game, we'll supply what you need to play every scenario. (But if you have Eastern Front, it'll be helpful to bring it.)
This is the largest face-to-face Memoir tournament in North America, and the winner earns the right to compete in the online Champions Trophy tournament.
Plus 5 Overlords
Overlords: In addition, we will have 5 Overlord games -- Thursday afternoon, Friday late-night, and Saturday all day. Specific scenarios will be announced later.
• Thursday 2 PM – Moyland Wood (basic and action-packed)
• Friday 11 PM – High Stakes at Bruyeres (with Combat cards)
• Saturday 10 AM – Battle of Lauban – Action 2 (basic)
• Saturday 2 PM – Crossing the Volturno Line (advanced scenario)
• Saturday 7 PM – The Khalkhin Gol Encirclement
Up-to-date information will be posted on this thread and also at http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/event/details/?id=1835
WBC features tournaments for more than 100 different games, such as Battle Cry, C&C Ancients, C&C Napoleonics, and C&C: Medieval. The full convention will be July 23-July 31.
Also ... tournaments for DoW games Ticket to Ride, Small World, Five Tribes, and Pirate's Cove.

I've added this year's WBC tournament and Overlord scenario information to the first message on this thread.
WBC management has been dealing with a computer issue, so they are late in posting the Event Preview information.
I hope to see a number of new and familiar faces (cheekbones and above) in about 6 1/2 weeks!

Is everyone required to wear facemasks at the event?
What brings me to: what is the best website to stay up to date on the most recent covid-specific rules in Pennsylvania?

Awesome! I'm really looking forward to this after a two-year break.
In response to Quit2's question, I don't foresee masks being required at the event unless the COVID numbers really spike. Was just in PA last weekend and there were no requirements for masks and very few people choose to mask anymore.

Here's a link to an article from a radio station that says, "Pennsylvania has lifted most COVID-19 restrictions. ... Face masks: Face masks are no longer required indoors or outdoors in public settings.
https://whyy.org/articles/when-are-covid-restrictions-being- lifted-across-the-delaware-valley/
The Pennsylvania Health Department has an FAQ that says, "The order requiring universal face coverings was lifted statewide at 12:01 am on Monday, June 28. We continue to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing a mask where required by law, rule, and regulations, including healthcare, local business and workplace guidance."
https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/F AQs.aspx#:~:text=The%20order%20requiring%20universal%20face, local%20business%20and%20workplace%20guidance.
Personally, I will be at a big event in North Carolina just a few days before WBC. Out of respect and courtesy for others, I plan to wear a mask most of the time.

Hi Sam,
Are the Bridge Too Far and Gold Beach scenarios available online anywhere?
Also, I assume that we will not be using the airplane rules... My armor divisions are still reeling from our last meeting.

You have armor divisions?
We'll be playing all scenarios the way we played them in the earlier years. There will be no airplanes.
I sent you a message with details about the scenarios.

Alas, Air Canada canceled our tickets and the offer we go to rebook was more expensive and insufficient. Will try to visit another year

The WBC Memoir tournament was played last Thursday evening and Friday.
It was great to see so many friends again. We had 42 players. (That's down from the previous WBC, due to covid and, perhaps, gas prices.) The field included 9 past WBC champions, plus a number of dangerous players. The Finals turned out to be a rematch of 2019. The top 6 finishers were all well-known online players:
1st - Nittany Devil (formerly gheintze)
2nd - sam1812
3rd - Winn81
4th - mrmanley31
5th - Red-Eyed Jack
6th - Tank Commander (johniks)
Other names you might recognize included CAMiller (Minuteman Miller), David XLV, Delawyvern, Falkirk, gonzoj, gotigerssc, JAParker, M44General (BoardgamesRich), tmanley, and (I think) wagnat.
The last time WBC was held in person (2019), the GM (yours truly) had the audacity to win the tournament. Therefore, this year's tournament scenarios were chosen to make it as difficult as possible for me to repeat: We played scenarios that eliminated me from the tournament in earlier years.
• Mulligan & Round 1 – Suomussalmi
• Round 2 – Forêt d'Ecouves
• Round 3 – A Bridge Too Far, from the 2013 Belgian Open tournament
• Round 4 – The Khalkhin Gol Spark
• Round 5 – D-Day: Gold Beach, Richard Borg’s 2014 update of the original scenario
• Round 6 – Hlegu, Burma
In addition, we played 4 Overlord games:
• Moyland Wood (basic and action-packed)
• High Stakes at Bruyeres (with Combat cards)
• Battle of Lauban – Action 2 (basic)
• The Khalkhin Gol Encirclement[/color]
I'll post a writeup after it's done.
