I need help understanding the ranking system Mon, 16 February 2009 04:56
Hello all,

I'm fairly new, having only first heard about this game about 3 months back. I currently have 50 online games under my belt and am having difficulty understanding the ranking system (yes, I've already read the sticky post on the subject).

I currently have an established score of 1266

But here's where I'm confused:

TTR 2-player score is established (30 games) and is currently at 1406

TTR multiplayer score is established (20 games) and is currently at 1430

My TTR USA score is established (45 games) at 1382

My TTR Europe is provisional (5 games) at 1529

All other versions are no score as I have not participated in any of the others. But my question is this:

How is my overall score (1266) so much lower than all the other scores. I'm above 1400 in both USA games (2-player and multi) and am provisional in Europe. Do the provisional scores (Europe as well as the ones I have yet to play) mess up my overall score that much. Should I try to get everything at 20 so I have a real average?

I just don't get it. Could someone please enlighten me? I'd love to understand how it really works.

Thanks in advance!

Hello ryanhaase,

All scores are calculated independent of the others, but in general there should be some overlap.

If you play a 2P USA game, your overall score will change based on the overall score of your opp and your 2P score will change based on the 2P score of your opp and your USA score will change based on the USA score of your opp. In no case averages apply.

In general, overall scores are lower than US, Europe and 2P scores, this is the case with you as well. Lots of statistics and theories could explain this, but mostly playing multi's drags overall scores down.

Also, maybe the results of your first few games weren't that good and after 20 games your first "established" rank was your overall rank, which counts in all cases. After you got a little better, you became established in USA & 2P at a higher level.

Good luck!

Thanks for the explanation Truckerteller. I assumed the overall score was the average of all put together, but I see that is not the case. Thanks for clarifying.

So when people say they want a game of 1300+, or 1500+, are they then referring to your overall score, or the specific score of the verions of game (2P, multi...) they are wanting to play?

to your overall score, or your overall rank if the game title says top 103, top 200 or top 500
