Game was shut down incorrectly - possible solution Tue, 22 October 2013 23:03

I had the problem where starting the game would show a "game did not shut down correctly" message, and it wasn't solved by updating graphics drivers and reinstalling the game.

What worked for me was actually "downdating" my graphics drivers! I went straight to version 285.62 of NVidia drivers (I have a GTX 560 Ti) and the first start after that the message was still shown, but the game finally started, and after that the message didn't show up anymore.

I'm well aware what works for one PC might not work on another, but hopefully at least some of you will be able to get playing this way!

Cheers, Zeus

Just purchased the Humble Bundle Steam version and getting the same problem..

When I look at the output.log in the steamapps\common\Ticket To Ride\log directory it shows the following error at the bottom:

Note: I'm also using Windows 8.1 with Nvidia driver R331 (the latest), in case that matters

I just rolled back my driver. (I had done all the other steps reinstall etc.) I still got the error message but the game started. Seems like there is an issue with the latest Nvidia driver.

Instructions for those less tech savvy.
Start --> Search "device manager" Click device manager --> Display driver, Right click --> Properties --> Driver tab --> Roll back driver.

Wait till it completes then start the game through steam.

Let's hope the developers notice this and get it fixed, I like to keep my drivers up to date to prevent problems in other games.

For those who have tried all the uninstall/reinstall for the game, steam or you video card drivers there is another temporary solution. It seems that the developers have posted a beta for the game that goes back to the previous update. This worked for me. Basically go into your library on steam (PC version) right click on properties for Ticket to ride, then go to the beta tab. Select the beta titled something like intelchipset...(its the only one) and you can run the old version.

I still have problems, even using the beta version. The game will start, and the window will be black, but the intro music will skip and be jittery. It plays for an entire loop before it shows up on the screen with the loading bar. However, sometimes it doesn't even get that far, and it locks up, and I have to force quit the program through the Task Manager. I've not tried rolling back the driver yet though, so I'm going to give that a shot tomorrow.
