This task for the 6th airborne (british) had as purpose to prevent German reinforcement from Calais (where the main concentration of German troops where stationed) On the sword map the Dive river and the mentioned towns from the quote are visible including two bridges. The bridge destruction rules could apply to these bridges since German reinforcements can enter from beside. The fordable stream is the only left way to cross the river before going around it to the south which takes a lot of turns. It would be a nice historic detail and use of a memoir'44 rule.

Interesting read; thanks for the link. Reading through that it looks like many of the bridges were destroyed during the night before much fighting took place. Destroying Bridges is not in the rules for these scenarios (as you've seen) and will not be added, but if you want to plug them in then go for it.
In my mind, the destroyed Bridges have already been eliminated when we jump into the battle, so they simply aren't shown on the board. The bridges that are there need to be held by the Allies to prevent counter-attacks. But with everything Memoir '44 it's about having fun! So if it's more fun for you to allow Bridges to be destroyed, go for it!

your absolutely right. Those bridges should have been destroyed, but pegasus brigde should also have been in British hands
And maybe, if I played the map over and over again, I apply a houserule. But as a memoir'44 purist I think it will never happen and I keep playing it as the author(s) has meant to play it

It's the Flame Thrower Badge for tanks. No new rules there...sorry if I got your hopes up.
