Ticket to Ride - Updates Notes Fri, 27 November 2015 16:53
Dear Ticket to Ride players,

As you all know, we released on November 19th, 2015 a massive update of Ticket to Ride. This version was a complete cross-platform rewrite of the app. There were lots of reasons why we did this rewrite, mostly technical: we had to move to a new technology because updating the app was getting more and more impossible and preventing us from adding long-demanded features such as new maps or asynchronous gaming.

We are aware of the difficulties encountered by our players with the latest update of Ticket to Ride. The addition of many new features and some deep changes in the User Interface caused passionate reactions from many players who were used to the previous interface. We are listening and are working on improving these elements so that the app will look more like what our players had loved to use during the past years.

There are also stability issues in some specific cases, that we are fixing as fast as we can.

Some issues will be quick to fix, some will take longer. The Ticket to Ride community should know that we stand behind our products and we are sorry about all these difficulties. We are working hard to resolve them.

We are going to release small updates on a regular basis. We will use this forum thread to keep you posted about what comes up in each update, what we plan to do next, etc. Please keep in mind that we might or might not release the super-important-fix-you-care-so-much-about, or if we do, not in the order that you would like. Each item is a delicate balance between players' demand, ease of implementation, risks of side-effects, and added value for players. We might also tell you that we plan to work on a specific topic for a next version and that topic might not be delivered as announced - simply because it turned out to be more complicated than anticipated. Also, the frequency of updates may vary over time.

We thank you for your support during this ongoing journey. Ticket to Ride is dear to us all, and we all want to make it awesome.

The Days of Wonder team

PS: this thread is locked so that the release notes would appear in an easy-to-read continuous manner. You are welcome to post comments in other threads of this forum, or course.

  Version 2.0.3 Fri, 27 November 2015 16:54
Version 2.0.3

Today we released a 2.0.3 update on Android and Steam. It is also coming on iOS, but it will take more time (maybe 10 days or more). We have no control over the delays of the review process on the App Store, which is scheduled according to the Apple application approval process timeline.

Also note that this update also applies to "Ticket to Ride Pocket", although there will be a similar additional delay to see it land on your iOS devices - again due to the Apple application approval process.

To check the version of your app: it is indicated in small prints in the lower right corner of the main screen.

The 2.0.3 update is mostly focused on usability issues and improving some elements that many people found annoying while playing in-game:

- When using the large User Interface (tablets or desktop), the pile of tickets is now at the TOP of the screen, like the way it was in the previous version.
- The animated "This is your turn!" and "Pick a second card!" black banner now appears only if you don't do anything for 10 seconds. This design was also improved a bit in the phone interface.
- We removed the fade-to-black animation (some users called it the "black flash") that happened when an opponent claimed a route. We also improved the animation of the points that appear next to the claimed route.
- After picking your first card, the visible locomotives don't move as far as before, making the animation less distracting.
- The animation when you pick your own cards is now faster (similar to what it was in the previous version).
- The auto-zoom now happens only when using the Small User Interface (on phones or small screens). And it is faster.
- The Tchoo-tchoo sound is back to indicate the start of your turn.
- Android only: when disconnected from the Internet, in some cases (like a cold restart) the selection of expansions could be lost until the next reconnection.

What happens next?

The next update will bring improvements in more different areas. There will still be some in-game improvements, like for example using your preferred color during online games. There will also be improvements in the lobby or some other places. Stability improvements are also coming their way, but these type of issues are much more complicated to pin down because of the very asynchronous architecture of the app. So it is too early to know exactly what will be delivered and when, but you should know that we are already working on these too.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

The Days of Wonder team

  Version 2.0.4 Thu, 03 December 2015 11:44
Dear Ticket to Ride players,

Today we released version 2.0.4 on Android and Steam.

The iOS version was submitted to the App Store too (both the full app and the "Pocket" app). As usual with the App Store, it is going to take time (7 to 10 days usually) for the apps to be approved and make it to your devices. As a result, iOS users will jump directly from 2.0.0 (or 2.0.1) to 2.0.4 and get lots of improvements in one shot. We hope you will like them.

Here are the improvements brought by version 2.0.4:

- Your preferred color is now used in online games.
- Online games are now Multi Session games (aka asynchronous) by default, including when using the "Quick" button (which creates a 15-minute game). This should go a long way in helping people with disconnection issues. As a positive side-effect, the "Quick" button also becomes available to users of the iOS "Pocket" app who did not unlock the full upgrade - so it will make the life of these players easier too.
- The avatar of your Days of Wonder account now appears in the Lobby and in games. Reminder: you can change your avatar by going to your profile on http://www.daysofwonder.com/myaccount
- Improved readability of the counters of cards in your hand.
- In Solo games, Marg Loughbot is now the default AI. This will be less confusing to beginners than using Vanderbot Jr., who has as a very special way of playing Ticket to Ride Twisted Evil
- No more "Give up" dialog.
- With the phone interface, the Rank score, number of games, Karma and language are now listed next to players while a game is open and waiting for others players to join it.
- Improved "wait screen" during some transitions.
- Several stability fixes, especially in the Lobby area.

What's coming next?

With the past updates, we've covered a lot of the usability or user interface issues that were annoying many users. A few similar improvements are still on their way, but you should also see stability fixes, like the one we released in this update. These are the most complex and long issues to fix, hence the delays.

We hope you will enjoy this new update!

Dear players,

Some news as of 12/11 about the 2.0.4 update on iOS: the "Ticket to Ride Pocket" app was properly released by Apple a few days ago, but the "Ticket to Ride" app is still stuck in the Apple review process for some reason. We hope this won't last too long, as it brings lots of improvements that were requested by many of you!

Meanwhile, we are working on the next update. As announced previously, it will bring many stability fixes and also some more user interface improvements.

Stay tuned and thank you for your support,

The Days of Wonder team

  Version 2.0.7 Tue, 15 December 2015 00:37
Today we released a 2.0.7 update on Android and Steam. We are also working on the iOS versions, which we will submit shortly (we were blocked because version 2.0.4 was stuck in review until today).

This being said, the App Store will be closed for changes on December 22nd until the end of the year. So considering how long it took to get the 2.0.4 update through the App Store review process, it is likely that the next iOS update will make it to your devices only in early January. Apple confirmed us that the volume of apps for them to review is currently quite high.

Here is the list of fixes and improvements in version 2.0.7:

General improvements:

- Several crash and stability fixes.
- Fixed the Switzerland city-to-country scoring when the ticket was failed.
- Fixed a freeze when resuming a game with a bot and high animations speed.

In-game user interface improvements:

- Now clicking on your avatar (bottom right) shows all the information about your hand, including the total number of cards you have (can be useful when using the phone interface).
- On PC and Mac, you cannot drag a card from your hand while a claimed route animation is running. This should help fixing the disappearing cursor issue.
- Revamped the cards miniatures in your hand when drawing tickets. This brings better readability, especially for color-blind players.
- Animation tweakings.
- Legibility improvements.
- On phones, the Game Clock timer is only shown for the current player.

Improvements in games Creation and Join in the Lobby:

- "Search" was renamed into "Filter" to make it more clear, since it simply makes a selection in the list of players that appear at a given time.
- Improved information display for each open game in the Join games list: icons were reorganized a bit for better readability and a some parameters were added.
- Improved automatic reconnection in case of loss of connection in the Lobby.
- Join and Observe game lists do not scroll up every 4 seconds anymore.
- set-up modes Quick/Lobby/Buddies have been renamed Quick/Advanced/Invitation to make things more clear.

Improvements in other game modes:

- No more confirmation dialog when leaving a Solo game.
- In Solo games, the color of opponents now match the colors that were selected during the game set-up.
- Local Play: better error messages.
- Make sure the Solo and Pass-and-play games can be resumed as long as you did not see the final scores.

Other changes:

- Small improvement in the tutorial: when a tutorial dialog is on screen, the "it's your turn" reminder message will not pop-up anymore.
- Restore Achievements from the former iPhone/iPad apps.

What's coming up next?

We are working on a few last stability fixes but we are also working on new types of improvements. We would like to simplify some user interfaces or make some concepts easier to understand or use.

Stay tuned on this forum for more news.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

The Days of Wonder team

  Version 2.0.8 Sun, 20 December 2015 00:27
Dear Ticket to Ride players,

Version 2.0.8 is now available on Android and Steam. This is an intermediate update that brings a few improvements and also resolves an annoying problem with bots "hot-swap" that appeared in 2.0.7:

- Fixed the bot hot-swap, where the bot sometimes would not play.
- Fixed the situations where the end-of-game animations would not show up.
- Fixed the opponents order.
- More legible icons for the opponent counters.
- Stability fixes.

On the iOS side, we can confirm what we announced in the previous release notes: with the Apple Store black-out starting on December 22nd, iOS users will not receive anything before the beginning of January. But this will most likely be the 2.0.9 update that we are currently baking. So as usual on iOS, players wait longer but get more in one shot.

Stay tuned and thank you for your support,

The Days of Wonder team

Dear Ticket to Ride players,

Version 2.0.11 is now available on Android and Steam. Again, this one brings lots of improvements. There are also a lot of crash fixes!

- several crash and stability fixes.
- on the Switzerland map, card miniatures for the last action animation are now at the right place.
- on the Switzerland map, the last claimed route now works even for city-to-country routes.
- on the Switzerland map, Kreuzlingen -> Germany are 2 separate routes, not a double route.
- the Game Clock timer indicator goes red when it is about to time out.

- less error messages.

- exiting the In-Game screen because your game has been destroyed will not ask for confirmation.

A note for iOS users: version 2.0.9 is still under review by Apple. This has been several weeks now Crying or Very Sad . We hope to see it coming any day now. There are many improvements that will make a lot of people happy!

  Version 2.0.9 on iOS! Fri, 15 January 2016 11:33
Dear Ticket to Ride players,

Great news, version 2.0.9 is now available on iOS, at last!

If you want to learn more details about it, simply scroll up to the description of version 2.0.8, it is almost identical.

We hope iPad and iPhone users will enjoy this update, with lots of improvements since they moved directly from 2.0.4 to 2.0.9.

With some luck, the pace of iOS updates should improve during the next weeks and months, and iOS players will be less behind the Steam and Android players. With the holiday season behind us, review of apps should become faster on the Apple side now.

Thank you for your support,

This turned out to be right: version 2.0.11 was approved by Apple in less than 5 days and has been available since the end of last week. iOS users are now at the same level as everybody else.

Enjoy the improvements!

  Version 2.0.12 Thu, 24 March 2016 15:58
Dear players,

Here are the changes delivered in version 2.0.12:

- improved Games List filters in the list of Online open games, using 3-positions independent controls.
- introduced a minimum Rank Score requirement (like the Karma control) for competitive online players.
- Ulan Bator - Peking was showing a 3-mountain route, while it's only a 1-mountain route.
- the Swiss board now shows the country icons.
- triple click in a card in hand does only take 2 cards in the slot.
- on phones, the counters of accomplished/unaccomplished tickets are now over the tickets in hand.
- show the resize-window cursor when hovering the window's border on Windows.
- the Chat weird contextual menu has been removed.
- games involving a device running Android and built around a CPU using the arm64-v8a instructions set were messed up. This ended-up with players not playing and leaving the game, inconsistent games from a device to the next one, or crashes. The devices involved were Nexus 9, Nexus 6P, Note 3, etc.
- stability fixes regarding achievements, sounds, and more.

Enjoy!

  Version 2.0.15 Thu, 24 March 2016 16:00
Dear players,

Lot of changes in this version, especially two significant ones: an improved in-game user interface and a revamped Local Play mode, with Bluetooth back for iOS!

- Improved in-game user interface on tablets and desktop screens. Similar changes will come later on for small screens (phones).
- Local Play has been completely reworked:
  - Playing with other devices over Wifi network works much better
  - Disconnections are easily recoverable
  - Creating a game works on all devices
  - On iOS devices, you can play over Bluetooth
- First player setting in the Invitations has been fixed and will not crash the app anymore
- The first player is randomly chosen by default for pass-and-play, local and solo games
- The tooltip of the Instant Bot hot-swap switch is now correct.
- Switzerland: error message when trying to claim a double route in a 2-player game should say the minimum number of players is 3

We hope you will like this new upgrade! It was delivered to all platforms, including iOS (since 3/22). Make sure you upgrade your app! Especially if you use the Local Play features, all apps must be at least 2.0.15.

Have fun with the game,

The Days of Wonder team
