You are an evil crack-(game)-dealer, ColtsFan76. Shame on you.

I guess I'll be buying a fantasy version of C&C... sigh.

I'm not a huge fantasy fan, but if I can use my figs from FFG's War of the Ring to fight LotR battles with this game then I'm all for it.

I stopped by the DoW booth at GenCon and asked about this... While very nice, the booth people wouldn't give me any specific dates Very Happy but I got the feeling that we should see something by the end of the year.

I really do fear that B..B..Battlelore (I find it hard to say without grimacing), will push all else to the back burner.

Eric. Please say it isn't so.

Also, are you guys still working on the on-line game for MM'44?

What gives?

I hope they make an online version of Memoir '44 soon, and hopefully an online Battlelore eventually. I mean, I have some plans once the Memoir '44 one is done, I just need it to be made first. Laughing

Impossible!
We have Eric's word that this will not happend!
He has even said that they are going to increase the support!
Twisted Evil

Let us not forget the blurp from the GAMA report in March 2006:
"There will also be a "Special Big Memoir '44 Thing" that is to be released in September / October 2006.

But maybe the report misquoted DoW?
Maybe they really just said: "There will also be a "Special Big ... Thing" that is to be released in September / October 2006..

Anyone has access to the original GAMA source?

WHY do you think this, Tommy??? Mémoir '44 is a real HIT, DOW isn't going to let us down. I'm sure about that!

In a previous topic Eric, said (and I quote):

Mik,
The pipeline for Memoir '44 expansions is as big, if not bigger, than it ever has. I would not lose any sleep over it.
As for the rest, I usually don't believe all that I read on the Internet.

It's quite easy to see why Tommy thinks this, and i have to say that i have the same reservations. The BIG thing for DoW at the minute is BattleLore, and while that is receiving the full attention of all in the office, it is only natural for other, smaller, projects to be put on the back-burner. Let's face it, DoW already have a fanbase for MM'44 so they will, quite understandably, concentrate on BL.
I, along with most on here, really hope that MM'44 projects don't suffer as a result. The BattleLore theme doesn't float my boat in any way. Fantasy?.... Ugh!!

Re:Carrying Case Update? Sun, 17 September 2006 01:02
all the "rumors" on the internet was a fantasy based game by R. Borg (Battlelore), which turned out to be true. I hope the other rumors of Memoir '44 and others being on the back burner aren't true also. Battlelore doesn't sound appealing to me either, once the rules are posted I'll make my final decision.

As I have mentionned in other venues, Memoir '44 Online is under development and kicking. When it is ready for primetime, you will know all about it. In the meantime, we will keep to our knitting (or rather, in this case, to our coding Very Happy), like we usually do with all our projects.

We did made a mistake, earlier this year, talking about the carrying case before we could solve engineering issues to our satisfaction. As a result, we've disappointed people (though the alternative, shipping something sub-par, would have been worse). We' ve learned the lesson and have no desire whatsoever to make the same mistake again. Rolling Eyes

As for Mik's quote, the only project we've ever had on the drawing board for the October timeframe is BattleLore, though the quote might have been referring (wrongly) to the M44 Carrying case we shouldn't have mentionned in the first place.

Thankyou Eric for a frank reply.
You perhaps didn't have a choice but to mention the carry case as it was refered to in the manual of another expansion.

So, (perhaps pushing my luck here), can you tell us when we can expect more definite news about further expansions? For example, we will have news by... or we will have news sometime after....

Like I've stated earlier in this thread, Eric, I believe that Mémoir '44 (one of my most beloved games) is going to expand further. It wouldn't be wise to let your customers in the cold so to speak, and because I know DOW is "manned" with fine people who know what they do, I'm SURE (with all of my heart) that Mémoir '44 is going to grow instead of being left on its own!!!

It's great to admit that a mistake has been made by speaking of the "carrying case" too much in advance, but hey ... who among us hasn't made a mistake in his life? I'd really like to meet this person. So ... for me this is a subject closed.

Guys, there are going to be NEW expansionS (yes more than one) for our beloved game. I'm very sure and I believe every other word from Eric!

As to BattleLore ... I'm expecting a good product too and I'm very glad DOW is going this way too. Remember, DOW has made us some fine games, that is IMHO! I'll be among the first to pre-order this game ASAP! And, just for the record, I'm among the old wargamers on this forum, owning almost all of the old Avalon Hill wargames (except one)!

Re:Carrying Case Update? Sun, 17 September 2006 18:28
Of course do I believe Eric. Why would he lie?

Then about the future of Memoir:
First thing is that DOW needs to make money. Only a healthy firm is able to invest in new games and/or expansions.

So BattleLore is probably a good step in that direction. Based on a great game system in a setting that a lot of players will please. Must be a moneymaker....

So then they will be able to invest in our beloved Memoir. Expansions (the pommies?), carying cases, computer game, Offline scenario editor ....

So many gamemakers had good material but didn't survive the economic part. My guess is that DOW has got their act together on that area too ...

I just see BattleBore (oops - BattleLore) as an all consuming beast (of a project).

I hope Eric and the DOW gang prove me wrong.

The only question I have is whether or not it is still being developed, or whether I should look into making my own solution.

Aw aw aw...
It looks like there are really pessimistic people here...
Have you already been cruelly disappointed by any DoW product in the last two years? I have not.
Of course, I sometimes had to wait a bit longer than I'd have liked, but looking back, I realize it was not so big a deal...

I do think we should bless our DoW dream team to be here and make such games. Shadows Over Camelot and Memoir'44 are, for the moment, two of my three most favorite games. I barely experimented games like those ones, who are the perfect fit between "easy fun" (I mean: no two-day-understanding rules) and strategy.
I hope and guess that BattleLore will be the same.

Am I too optimistic? Maybe. But up to this day, I have never been disappointed by editorial decisions from Days of Wonder, for these guys have always been leading the way for our best gaming pleasure.

It's not a matter of being pessimistic. If they won't tell us it's coming out, they may not have found a way to make it work.

For the moment, the carrying case has just been delayed.
Do not worry: the DoW team officially said that they had announced this expansion a bit too early, before they had really found some commercial issues. What I understood is that they now found them, but these ones make them need much more time...

Once more: I am not eager to have a bad-made product. I'd better like to wait, even more months, to have what I always found in DoW's products: quality and fun.

I'm all for waiting a few more months for DoW to get it right. I just wonder how many (if any) official scenarios are going to be in this expansion. Seeing that it is for "carrying" all the previous ones, the new scenarios should include Eastern front, Pacific, and most important the terrian pack (since nearly all the tiles there haven't been used). Of course, don't forget, we need a few more overlord scenarios too.

Even if I know that some scenarios from the front are real good, I would like to see som new ones from Richard Borg. His approval is the best caution.

In effect, the number of official scenarios will at least double with this release, since you will now be able to play all the existing ones with the new air rules.

I am not sure. The air rules include new plane minis. I guess that we should see new scenarios including these minis, with planes flying from one hex to the other...

What would be cool is that the planes were on a stand that has the plane above the other units. This way the plane and ground units could be on the same hex. This would create a three dimensional environment.

I agree about great games from DOW. I've spent some great moments with Ticket to Ride. I don't know if you've ever tried Queen's Necklace also from DOW. I just bought it and it is pretty insane. The trick is to find 3 players - even online.

Maybe Avalon hill (wizard of the coast) will do the case for mem '44. I've learn that they might have taken over the mem '44 franchise...

Anybody else knows something about that?
