Since buying the game I started reading the Three Musketeers by Dumas. I am lucky enough to be reading it in French. It is an amazing book. It gives a great feel for the period and provides fantastic context for the game - even though the game is somewhat of a very loose adaptation and mixture of time periods.

Have any of you read it?

The game is indeed based on a book by Dumas, but not "the Three Musketeers". Instead it is based on a book called "The Queen's Necklace" or "le Collier de Rein" (?) and all of those strange quotes on the cards actually come from the book.

From the bibliography page to Queen's Necklace

Alexandre Dumas, The Queen's Necklace (the story behind the Necklace and Queen Marie-Antoinette. All the quotes in the game are actual quotes from this text, as unbelievable as some of them may seem).

Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers (for many of the characters, and the story of another famous necklace, the affair of the ferrets, for another earlier Queen).
